in Chile elevated percentage of population have cardiovascular diseases, 70% of this populations is a hypertensive peoples. The Ruta graveolens (Ruta) is a medicinal plant used in different parts of the world with different therapeutics properties like dermatologic as far as anti-helmintic properties. We analyzed the vascular action measuring the tension to identify vasodilator effect of Ruta extract in norm-tense rat’s aorta incubated and measured in isolated organ bath, and evaluating the toxicity effect in CRL-1730 cell line, through enzymatic assay (MTT), confocal microscopy (propidium iodide stain) and flow cytometry (TUNEL assay), including extracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production through luminescence assay. The results show with DE50 29 ± 0.1 μg/mL evidenced vasodilatation, partially endothelium-depend. The cytotoxicity showed with DE50 304.6 ± 2 μg/mL in enzymatic assay (MTT) while evidenced membrane permeability in high concentra.ions (1500 μg/mL), DNA fragmentation in absence of oxidative stress in only observed when high concentra.ions of Ruta are used over the cell culture. The vasodilatation activity is executed in subtoxic concentra.ion and partially endothelium-depend without permeability effect in the membrane and deteriora.ion of the cells viability suggesting a complex effect of Ruta prepara.ion in the regulation of vascular tone.

The limited availability of high-quality spatial data often limits the development of hydrological modelling in developing countries. Hydrological models with data at different scales may generate large uncertainties in modelling outputs. This study analysed the accuracy of four SWAT built models that combine soil and land use/land cover (LULC) data at the scale of 1:250,000 and 1:100,000 in a basin of Mexico. SWAT model allowed determining that large-scale maps produced better results than data from small-scale. Sensitivity analysis with different soil data was less than LULC data. However, the small-scale can be used for exploratory purposes when testing SWAT performance.

Acoustic impact Studies (AiS) of Wind Farms in Uruguay: A Methodology Proposal

The fast growing development of wind power in Uruguay has encouraged research on many issues regarding environmental acoustics, especially those related to wind turbines opera.ion. As every new power genera.ion device of 10 MW or larger has to have an environmental license approval before building it, a methodology for Acoustic impact Studies (AiS) was needed. This paper presents a methodology proposal to carry out AiS, taking into account the peculiarities of the Uruguayan status. Determining the area where the studies should be done, demands for the base line of sound pressure levels, predicting sound pressure levels during the opera.ion of future wind farm and main lines for the environmental management plan are included in this proposal. Uruguayan current national guidelines to noise pollution levels are also presented.

Measuring Sound Pressure Levels during Thermoacoustic instabilities in large Engines: Case Study

This paper attempts to present some registers of sound pressure levels during the opera.ion of large diesel engines (10 MW). During these registers we have found the prepara.ion, occurrence and ending of events of thermoacoustic instability. They appear after a loosing of chaos period or a reduction in fluctuations in some frequencies. The most interesting phenomena were registered at low frequencies. However, they were accompanied by variations in sound emissions at medium and high frequencies. As there has been very little published data concerning these phenomena at real scale, it is impera.ive to point out that every quasi-stationary state we have measured during these episodes has lasted some minutes, significantly much more time than that of lab scale results.

Fungal contamination by Aspergillus para.iticus and A. flavus causes negative effects on the production of food cereals. Kefir is an ancient fermented beverage obtained by the fermentation of different substrates with kefir grains. An important waste produced by the dairy cheese industry is the whey permeate, which nowadays is a strong ambient contaminant. The aim of this work was the standardization of the whey permeate fermenting conditions with kefir grains, the assessment of the antifungal activity of the cell-free-supernatants (CFS) from these fermentations and to compare it with that obtained with CFS of milk fermented with kefir grains. Finally, we studied if the addition of kefir fermented whey permeate to food (bread) and feed (poultry) could produce shelf life improvement. The optimal condition to obtain CFS with fungicidal effect was a fermentation with 10% w/v of kefir grains, at 30°C, for 24 hours until a pH 3.7. We found that CFS from whey permeate caused fungal inhibition, whereas CFS of kefir grains grown in milk showed lower antifungal activity. Additionally, the addition of kefir-fermented whey permeates in food (bread) and feed (poultry) improved their resistance to fungal contamination. This is the first report about the application of kefir-fermented whey permeate to improve the shelf life, suggesting its potential use as a biopreservative.

introduction: i>Neisseriai> is a large genus of bacteria that colonize mucosal surfaces. Of the 11 species that colonize humans, only two are pathogens, i>N. meningitidisi> and i>N. gonorrhoeaei>. Both are obligate human pathogens;the last is causal agent of gonorrhea disease. Although curable with timely antibiotic treatment, an annual incidence of more than 62 million cases is estimated by the World Health Organization and there are no successful vaccines available. in contrast, several prophylactic vaccine options for i>Neisseria meningitidisi> meningitis do exist. Of note, there is trace of cross parenteral response induced between i>N. meningitidisi> and i>N. gonorrhoeaei>, and Proteoliposome (PL, also named outer membrane vesicles, OMV) vaccine has shown high impact on this response. Objective: To determine effect of VAMENGOC-BC? and its derivates (AFPL1 and AFCo1) at mucosal and systemic level and possible cross response against i>Neisseriai> i>gonhorroeaei> in Balb/c and C57Bl/6 mice. Methods: We evaluated cross response against i>N. gonorrhoeaei> in mouse serum igG and saliva igA after mucosal immunization with VA-MENGOC-BC or its derivatives (AF, Adjuvant Finlay PL1 or AFCo (cochleate) 1). Results: immunizations with AFPL1 or AFCo1 induce anti i>N. gonorrhoeaei> at saliva igA and serum igG responses similar to VA-MENGOC-BC? vaccine. Conclusions: Such data confirms a new possible window of prime-boost vaccination strategy against gonorrhea and extends our knowledge regarding the effect of PL vaccines on cross responses.

increased posterior tibial slope (PTS), medial tibial plateau slope (MTPS) and lateral tibial plateau slope (LTPS) have been proposed as potential risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. However, prior literature is inconclusive. The primary goal of the study was to investigate the relationship of MTPS, LTPS and PTS with ACL tears. The secondary goal was to determine whether injury mechanisms, age, gender, tobacco, obesity, extreme PTS (>12°) or previous injuries are risk factors in ACL tears. Three groups were identified: a study group of patients with ACL injury;a second group diagnosed with meniscal injury;and a third group of non-injured patients. Demographic data was collected. Rheumatoid Factor and Anti Citrulinated Peptide. Relation with Remission and Progression in Rheumatoid Arthritis with Biologic Agent Therapy, during a One-Year Follow-Up

The aim of this study is to assess the variations of the RF and ACCP in ra patients treated with biologics in actual clinical practice (real) conditions for a one-year follow-up from the first biologic medication. The evaluated patients with a diagnosis of ra, according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 1987 were selected from the outpatient consult of Rheumatology of the “Hospital de Sant Pau” during one month (November 2012). We collected and analyzed data from 41 patients with ra and positivity for RF and/or ACCP. Of the 41 patients had given FR and ACCP at 3, 6 and 12 months respectively in 18 and 10 patients. in 22 patients had given DAS 28 at 3, 6 and 12 months respectively. The mean age of the sample is 55 years (range 29-79), with a mean disease progression 9 years (4 months to 32 years). 70% are women. 33 patients (80.5%) initiated treatment with anti-TNF and 8 (19.5%) with other no anti-TNF mechanism of action. There was a statistically significant (p = 0.001, ANOVA) decrease in DAS 28 (average decrease of 1.6 points) at 3 months is maintained at 6 and 12 m and no significant differences in their evolution by separa.ing anti-TNF drugs vs. other biological agents (different mechanisms of action (p = 0.285). So we have not detected a correlation between DAS 28 and FR or ACCP along the first 12 months of biological treatment. in our experience we did not find a correlation between DAS 28 and RF or ACCP, thus RF and ACCP do not appear to predict the response to treatment.

Aspergillus para.iticus, a common fungal contaminant in food, produces aflatoxin B1, which is classified as human carcinogen. Kefir is an ancient fermented beverage obtained by the fermentation of different substrates with kefir grains. A very important waste produced by the dairy cheese industry is the whey permeate, which nowadays is a strong ambient contaminant. The aim of this work was to assess the effect of whey permeates fermented with kefir grains against A. para.iticus growth, aflatoxin B1 biosynthesis, and the kefir microorganisms protection against the cell damage produced by aflatoxin B1. it was observed that kefir-cell-free-supernatants (CFS) produced fungal inhibition. A fungicidal effect was observed with 65% v/v of CFS in the culture medium (final pH 4.55 and total undissociated lactic and acetic acid concentra.ion 34.08 mM). Under these conditions, aflatoxin production was not detected. Finally, it was found that non-viable kefir microorganisms protected HepG2 cells from the damage produced by aflatoxin B1.

阿尔茨海默病（AD）的病理生理过程在痴呆诊断的多年前就开始了。这一长期的AD“临床前”阶段是治疗干预的关键机会，但需进一步阐明AD的病理级联过程和临床症状出现之间的联系。美国国立老化研究所和AD协会召集了一个国际工作组对AD生物标志物、流行病学和神经心理学的证据进行综述并提出建议，以确定能够预测由“正常”认知到轻度认知功能障碍（MCi）及AD痴呆的最佳预测指标。根据目前已有的主要科学证据，我们提出了一个概念性的框架和用于操作的研究标准，以通过纵向临床研究来验证和改进这些模型。这些建议仅用于研究目的，目前不涉及临床应用。我们希望这些建议能提供一个共识，以推进临床前AD的研究，最终推动更早期治疗干预的进展，使得一些疾病减缓药物的疗效发挥最大。
