Zeta potential measurement on lithium lanthanum titanate nanoceramics

The zeta potential, isoelectric point, and agglomeration of ***3 （LLTO） nanoparticles dispersed in aqueous media at different ionic strengths have been studied. The zeta potential was determined from electrophoretic mobility measurements, according to Smoluchowski＇s equation, for Li0.5La0.5TiO3 suspen- sions in NaCl and KCI electrolytes with ionic strengths of 1, 10, and 100 mmol/dm3. The isoelectric point （IEP）, zeta potential （ζ）, and the agglomeration were shown to strongly depend on the ionic strength of the Li0.5La0.5TiO3 aqueous colloidal suspension in both NaCI and KCI electrolytes, which allows the deter- mination of the effects of environmental conditions for ***3 manipulation in aqueous colloidal systems. The suspensions of Li0.5La0.5TiO3 nanoparticles reach the IEP in the pH range 0f3-5. The （ of Li0.5La0.5TiO3 nanoparticles varied from positive to negative values with a pH increase, which allows for the control of the surface charge depending on the purpose. The pH range of 7-g and an ionic strength ≤1 mmol/dm3 are recommended as the most suitable conditions for both the LLTO colloidal shaping techniques application and the LLTO-based nanocomposite formation.

Providing nest-boxes as surrogate tree cavities can be of great importance to increase the breeding populations of cavity-nesting birds in managed ***,the exact placement of nest-boxes should be taken into consideration to enhance their occupancy according to species-specific *** this study,we investigated which factors can better predict nest-box occupancy by the Great Tit(Parus major)in eucalypt *** used generalised linear mixed-effects models to analyse the influence of topography,nest-box positioning,vegetation cover and landscape variables on three-year occupancy records from 80 newly provided ***-random patterns of nest-box occupancy were found with respect to all categories except *** suggest that Great Tits prefer to occupy high-placed nest-boxes,close to areas that can provide them with supplementary resources either within or in the vicinity of the stand(i.e.,trees other than eucalypts,riparian vegetation,and large patches of adjacent habitats).Overall,this study provides important recommendations for nest-box placement and spatial distribution in managed forests and enhances the potential of nest-box interventions as a biodiversity offset and management tool.

Breast cancer is the most common type of malignant tumor among women and their second leading cause of cancer-related *** most common method for screening and diagnosis is ***,two main problems have been ***,the dose of radiation received during the test prevents the method from the use on women who are 〈 40 years ***,there can be mammogram failure owing to the lack of tumor contrast with the fibrous ***,there is a need for screening methods that will help to identify high-risk *** developed a biological marker test that can help to identify *** levels of sialic acid （SA） in saliva are known to correlated with breast *** this study,we evaluated the feasibility of Raman spectroscopy as a method for quantification of SA in saliva,using citrate-reduced silver nanoparticles （cit-Ag-NPs） as a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy （SERS） *** of SA was accomplished by measuring its intensity in saliva and comparing it with a calibration curve of SA *** mean SA concentration in saliva was found to be significantly higher among 100 breast cancer patients （18.3 ＆#177; 9.4 mg＆#183;dL-1;mean ＆#177; SD） than among 106 healthy controls （3.5 ＆#177; 1.0 mg＆#183;dL-1）.The SERS test showed sensitivity of 94% and specificity 98% for detection of patients with breast cancer,assuming that SA concentration 〉 7 mg＆#183;dL-1 is a cutoff for positive test *** findings prove the usefulness of this SERS technique as a simple,convenient,and highly sensitive method of quantitative analysis of SA in *** simplicity of this nanotechnological test may help to substantially reduce the mortality among patients with breast cancer by providing women with a simple,noninvasive screening test that can be applied regardless of age or density of breast tissue.

The influence of different exercise intensities on kicking accuracy and velocity in soccer players

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of different exercise intensities induced by a soccer specific protocol on kicking performance in soccer ***: Twelve semi-professional male soccer players participated in this study and performed maximal instep kicks before and after the implementation of an exercise protocol to determine the influence of different intensities upon kicking ball velocity and the target-hitting ***: Analysis of variance designs with repeated measures showed that maximal ball velocity was affected only after the most intense circuit(F(6, 66) = 2.3; p = 0.041; η2= 0.18), while accuracy was not affected in the protocol(F(6, 66) = 0.19; p = 0.98; η2= 0.02). Low and moderate intensities did not affect accuracy or kicking ball ***: These findings suggest that kicking ball velocity is influenced by high-exercise intensities. Low and moderate exercise intensities do not affect the performance of the kick, and intensity does not influence accuracy. Otherwise, it is possible that other mechanisms(not only physiological) may influence players during the exercise.

New patterns of the tree beta diversity and its determinants in the largest savanna and wetland biomes of South America

Blood Flow Simulation in the Femoral Artery

This paper presents the development of the blood flow simulation in two dimensions over the real geometry of the femoral artery. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using the finite element method, to obtain the distributions of the blood pressure and flow velocity in multiple instants of time and different places of the femoral artery and thus determine the current condition of the blood vessels. The velocity field shows a laminar behavior,where, the velocity is higher in the center of the artery and decreases as the blood flow approaches artery walls. In spite of all artery and blood flow properties not being considered, the values of pressure and velocity obtained are within the normal ranges. Finally the model is used to verify if there exist irregularities in the blood flow in both healthy subjects and sick patients.

Magnesium and its alloys are the most investigated materials for solid-state hydrogen storage in the form of metal hydrides,but there are still unresolved problems with the kinetics and thermodynamics of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of this group of *** plastic deformation(SPD)methods,such as equal-channel angular pressing(ECAP),high-pressure torsion(HPT),intensive rolling,and fast forging,have been widely used to enhance the activation,air resistance,and hydrogenation/dehydrogenation kinetics of Mg-based hydrogen storage materials by introducing ultrafine/nanoscale grains and crystal lattice *** severely deformed materials,particularly in the presence of alloying additives or second-phase nanoparticles,can show not only fast hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetics but also good cycling *** was shown that some materials that are apparently inert to hydrogen can absorb hydrogen after SPD ***,the SPD methods were effectively used for hydrogen binding-energy engineering and synthesizing new magnesium alloys with low thermodynamic stability for reversible low/room-temperature hydrogen storage,such as nanoglasses,high-entropy alloys,and metastable phases including the high-pressureγ-MgH2 *** work reviews recent advances in the development of Mg-based hydrogen storage materials by SPD processing and discusses their potential in future applications.

The Prognostic Value of Myocardial Deformation in Patients with Congenital Aortic Stenosis

Aims:To assess the prognostic value of left ventricular(LV)global longitudinal strain(GLS)and global longitudinal early diastolic strain rate(GLSre)with regard to cardiovascular events,as congenital aortic stenosis(AoS)is associated with significant mortality and morbidity but predictors for clinical outcome are *** analysis provides a robust and reproducible method for early detection of LV dysfunction,which might be of prognostic ***:This prospective study,included clinically stable patients with congenital AoS between 2011–*** GLS and GLSre was performed in the apical 4,3 and 2-chamber views using Tomtec *** endpoint was a composite of death,heart failure,hospitalization,arrhythmia,thrombo-embolic events and ***:In total 138 patients were included(33[26–43]years,86(62%)male),NYHA class I:134(97%).Mean LV GLS was–15.3±3.2%,GLSre 0.66±0.18 s–*** correlated with NT-proBNP,LV volumes and ejection fraction(strongest LV GLS with LV EF:r–0.539,p<0.001,strongest LV GLSre with age:r–0.376,p<0.001).During median follow-up of 5.9[5.5–6.2]years,the endpoint occurred in 53(38%)patients:4 patients died,9 developed heart failure,22 arrhythmias,8 thrombo-embolic events and 35 *** LV GLS(standardized HR(sHR 0.62(95%CI 0.47–0.81)and GLSre(sHR 0.62(95%CI 0.47–0.83)were associated with the *** multivariable analysis showed that both GLS and GLSre were associated independent of left atrial volume,NT-proBNP and prior ***:Left ventricular GLS and GLSre are reduced in adult patients with congenital *** markers are associated with adverse cardiac events and have clear clinical relevance.
