Background:Glaucoma patients undergoing phacoemulsification alone have a higher rate of refractive surprise compared to patients without *** risk is further increased with combined filtering ***,there are few and conflicting reports on the effect of combined phacoemulsification and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery(MIGS).Here,we look at refractive outcomes of glaucoma patients undergoing phacoemulsification with and without Kahook dual Blade(KdB)***:Retrospective chart review of 385 glaucomatous eyes of 281 patients,which underwent either phacoemulsification alone(n=309)or phacoemulsification with KdB goniotomy(n=76,phaco-KdB)at the University of *** main outcome was refractive surprise defined as the difference in target and postoperative refraction spherical equivalent greater than±0.5 diopter(d).Results:Refractive surprise greater than±0.5 d occurred in 26.3%of eyes in the phaco-KdB group and 36.2%in the phacoemulsification group(p=0.11).Refractive surprise greater than±1.0 d occurred in 6.6%for the phacoKdB group and 9.7%for the phacoemulsification group(p=0.08).There was no significant difference in risk of refractive surprise when pre-operative IOP,axial length,keratometry or performance of KdB goniotomy were assessed in univariate ***:There was no difference between refractive outcomes of glaucomatous patients undergoing phacoemulsification with or without KdB goniotomy.

The authenticity of 91 wines produced in Cyprus from both indigenous and other vine varieties were investigated by a holistic approach, using, advanced technology such as SNIF-NMR （site-specific natural isotopic fractionation-nuclear magnetic resonance） and 1R-MS （isotope ratio-mass spectrometry） for the determination of the stable isotopes and ICP （inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy） for some heavy metals. The spectroscopic characteristics were evaluated statistically using different chemometric methods. The dependency of the d/H （deuterium/hydrogen） ratio of the methylene site in the ethanol molecule （d/H）ll and also theδ ^18O values of the wine water, were the most useful discriminators. Isotopic results allow us to have a complete idea about the regional variability of the isotopes. Among the metals, Ni followed by Pb was the ones with the highest discrimination value. The determined concentrations of Pb, Ni, Cr and Cd that are related to the safety of wines were within the acceptable limits that have been established by the OIV （international organization of vine and wine） or comparable with the results of the wines of other European countries. The study of the correlation between the load of heavy metals and isotopes in wines showed a dependence on the grape variety but not the geographical location of the vineyard. This is probably due to the close proximity of wine regions in Cyprus.

Whereas a rich literature exists for estimating population genetic divergence, metrics of phenotypic trait divergence are lacking, particularly for comparing multiple traits among three or more populations. Here, we review and analyze via simula- tion Hedges＇ g, a widely used parametric estimate of effect size. Our analyses indicate that g is sensitive to a combination of unequal trait variances and unequal sample sizes among populations and to changes in the scale of measurement. We then go on to derive and explain a new, non-parametric distance measure, ＇Aft＇, which is caiculated based upon a joint cumulative distribution function （CdF） from all populations under study. More precisely, distances are measured in terms of the percentiles in this CdF at which each population＇s median lies. Ap combines many desirable features of other distance metrics into a single metric; namely, compared to other metrics, p is relatively insensitive to unequal variances and sample sizes among the populations sam- pied. Furthermore, a key feature of Ap--and our main motivation for developing it--is that it easily accommodates simultaneous comparisons of any number of traits across any number of populations. To exemplify its utility, we employ Ap to address a ques- tion related to the role of sexual selection in speciation： are sexual signals more divergent than ecological traits in closely related taxa？ Using traits of known function in closely related populations, we show that traits predictive of reproductive performance are indeed, more divergent and more sexually dimorphic than traits related to ecological adaptation [Current Zoology 58 （3）： 426-439 2012].
