Shadow removal has evolved as a preprocessing step for various computer vision *** studies have been carried out over the past two decades to eliminate shadows from videos and images. Accurate shadow detection is an open problem because it is often considered difficult to interpret whether the darkness of a surface is contributed by a shadow incident on it or not. This paper introduces a color-model based technique to remove shadows from images. We formulate shadow removal as an optimization problem that minimizes the dissimilarities between a shadow area and its non-shadow *** achieve this, we map each shadow region to a set of non-shadow pixels, and compute an anchor value from the non-shadow pixels. The shadow region is then modified using a factor computed from the anchor value using particle swarm optimization. We demonstrate the efficiency of our technique on indoor shadows, outdoor shadows, soft shadows, and document shadows, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

With the rapid integration of distributed energy resources(DERs),distribution utilities are faced with new and unprecedented *** challenges introduced by high penetra-tion of DERs range from poor observability to overload and reverse power flow problems,under-/over-voltages,maloperation of legacy protection systems,and requirements for new planning *** utility personnel are not adequately trained,and legacy control centers are not properly equipped to cope with these ***,distribution energy resource management systems(DERMSs)are emerging software technologies aimed to provide distribution system operators(DSOs)with a specialized set of tools to enable them to overcome the issues caused by DERs and to maximize the benefits of the presence of high penetration of these novel ***,as DERMS technology is still emerging,its definition is vague and can refer to very different levels of software hierarchies,spanning from decentralized virtual power plants to DER aggregators and fully centralized enterprise systems(called utility DERMS).Although they are all frequently simply called DERIMS,these software technologies have different sets of tools and aim to provide different services to different *** paper explores how these different software technologies can complement each other,and how they can provide significant benefits to DSOs in enabling them to successfully manage evolving distribution networks with high penetration of DERs when they are integrated together into the control centers of distribution utilities.

In this paper, the choice of power quality compensator is a DSTATCOM which constitutes a three phase four leg voltage source converter （VSC） with a DC capacitor. The control strategy proposed for the DSTAT- COM is a neural network based one cycle control （OCC）. This control strategy involves neural network block, digital circuits and linear elements, which eliminates the sensors required for sensing the load current and coupling inductor current in addition to the multiplier employed in the conventional method. The calculation of harmonic and reactive currents for the reference current generation is also eliminated, thus minimizing the complexity in the control strategy. The control strategy mitigates harmonic/reactive currents, ensures balanced and sinusoidal source current from the supply mains that are nearly in phase with the supply voltage, compensates neutral current, and maintains voltage across the capacitor under unbalanced source and load conditions. The performance of the DSTATCOM with the proposed artificial neural network （ANN） controllers is validated and investigated through simulations using Matlab software. The simulation results prove the efficacy of the proposed neural network based control strategy under varying source and load conditions.

Photoelectrochemical behaviour of Cdln2S4 films deposited by pulse electrodeposition using non-aqueous electrolyte

Cdln2S4 films were deposited by the pulse electrodeposition technique on tin oxide-coated glass substrates, at different duty cycles in the range of 6%-50%. The deposition potential was -0.7 V vs, saturated calomel electrode （SCE） using non-aqueous di（ethylene glycol） electrolyte, XRD analysis of the films indicated polycrystalline nature. Grain size, strain and dislocation density were evaluated from the XRD data, EDX analysis of the surface composition confirms the formation of stoichiometric Cdln2S4 films, Optical studies show a direct band-gap values in the range of 2.14-2.23 eV for the films deposited at different duty cycles. Room temperature resistivity of the films was in the range of 40-21 *** with the increase of duty cycle. Photoelectrochemical （PEC） solar cells constructed with the films deposited at 50% duty cycle and post-heat-treated at 500~C indicated open circuit voltage （Voc） of 0.595 V, short circuit current density （Jsc） of 6.20 ***-2, fill factor （if） of 0.61, efficiency （t/） of 3.75%, series resistance （Rs） of 4Q and shunt resistance （Rsh） of 2.50kQ. Making use of the advantages of pulse electrodeposition it can be used to deposit nanocrystalline films which can be employed in optoelectronic and photovoltaic devices.

BACKGROUND Anal cancers are caused by human papilloma virus(HPV). Buschke-Lowenstein tumor also known as giant anal condyloma(GCA) is a variant of giant neglected anal tumors arising from warts caused by HPV infection. HPV are a family of double-stranded DNA viruses and primarily cause sexually transmitted disease of the genitalia and oropharyngeal mucosa. These tumors are slow growing;locally destructive large verrucous *** SUMMARY We present a series of two cases with large anal tumors harboring invasive cancers and highlight their presentation and management. Tumors with high risk HPV subtypes(HPV 16, 18, 31, 33) may progress into invasive squamous cell carcinoma(SCC). Untreated GCA can attain enormous size and extend into the pelvic organs and bony structures. Some tumors show malignant degeneration into SCC and are often difficult to diagnose given the large size of the *** surgical excision with negative margins is the treatment of choice and necessary to prevent recurrence. This is often not feasible and leaves large surgical wounds with tissue defects with delay in healing and increases postoperative morbidity. Pelvic reconstructive techniques including muscle flaps and grafts are often necessary to close the defects. Human immunodeficiency virus and immunocompromised patients generally do poorly with standard *** A multidisciplinary team of colorectal and plastic surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists along with combination treatment modalities are necessary when malignant transformation occurs in GCA, for optimal outcomes.

Recent scientific interests reveal that graphene, with its flexibility, chemical stability, thermal conductivity,unique electronic band structure and optical transmittance, has emerged as the novel supporting material for nanocomposites for various applications. Research interests have flourished regarding decoration of conventional materials with modified graphene for achieving better optical properties. More concern is given for achieving improved photoresponse with graphene as the supporting material. The giant electron mobility and transparency of graphene enables the photo-induced electron transfer in the hybrid material, resulting in enhanced behaviour. Graphene oxide is able to effectively convert near infrared energy into heat, potentially acting as a photo-thermal switch. They act as potential candidates for photo-catalysts, sensors, photo-current switching,photo-detectors and other optical applications. In this review, we summarized the recent developments on fabrication and properties of graphene based photoresponsive materials.
