Sedimentary sequences preserve the records of changes in major controls of sedimentation namely,tectonics,climate,relative sea level and sediment production and *** potential to characterize these changes in spatial and temporal scales has led to the development of the branch of *** study of sedimentary sequences commenced from recognizing identical/contrasting geochemical features across major geochronological boundaries,and evolved into one of the essential tools in exploration,characterization,and well development *** incorporates applications on continuous,real-time geochemical mapping and direction of lateral drilling,and machine learning,among *** the sedimentary systems operate on a variety of temporal scales that range from few hours(tidal cycles)to few tens of millions of years,within which many perturbations such as catastrophic and diagenetic events take place,that lead to unique geochemical signature which can be correlated at appropriate spatial and temporal *** application of chemostratigraphic technique in hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir characterization has gained momentum in recent years,particularly with the advent of developments in analytical *** has also led to the integration of a variety of data from field sedimentary structures,mineralogy,major,trace and isotopic chemical compositions of whole rock,selected components of rocks,organic and inorganic components of oil and gas,etc.,for reservoir characterization more accurately than *** geochemical fingerprinting of oil and gas reservoir components plays a major role in the identification of source rocks,discrimination of oil families,characterization of reservoir,source,and seal segments in petroleum *** trends indicate the relevance and growing applications of machine learning techniques,artificial intelligence in real-time assessment,monitoring and planning of hydrocarbon

Evaluation of hydrogeochemical characteristics and the impact of weathering in seepage water collected within the sedimentary formation

A study was conducted by collecting eight seepage water samples that drain through the sedimentary rocks,mainly sandstone and shale,to evaluate the hydrogeochemical *** collected samples were analyzed for physico-chemical parameters using standard *** water types were identified in the Piper plot and the hydrogeochemical evolution starts from a CaCl facies(type 1) via mixed Ca-Mg-Cl and Ca-Na-HCO_3 facies(type 2) to Na-Cl facies(type 3).Increasing trend of electrical conductivity(EC) values were observed from type 1 water to type 3 *** ionic concentrations with an average EC value of 35.7(is/cm in Ca-Cl facies indicate the recharge water by monsoonal rainfall,and ion exchange/weathering process is reflected in the mixing *** ionic concentration with an average EC value of 399(is/cm is noted in Na-Cl facies,which indicates the ion exchange during water-rock *** log PCO_2 values are also found in this facies,revealing the longer residence time of seepage water in the rock matrix,which release more ions into the *** relative mobility of elements during weathering suggest that the order of mobility in both sandstone and shale is Na > Ca > Mg > *** was observed that the hydrogeochemistry of seepage water is mainly controlled by the bedrock geology.

Petrography and stable isotopic variations in Dalmiapuram Formation of Cauvery Basin, South India: implication on OAE1d

Petrography, carbon and oxygen isotopic study was carried out to interpret isotopic variations on the predominant carbonate sequence of the Dalmiapuram Formation of the Cauvery Basin, South India. The common petrographic types identified in the Dalmiapuram Formation range from wackestone to boundstone. The gray shale and limestone members show large variations in d13 C and d18 O values(Gray shale member: +1.44 to +2.40 %VPDB,-3.05 to-5.92 % VPDB, respectively; Limestone member:-6.07 to +2.93 % VPDB;-7.08 to-0.39 %VPDB; respectively). In the present study, the carbon and oxygen values are not correlated, which supports the fact that these limestones retain their primary isotopic signatures. In carbon isotope curve, one negative shift is identified in the gray shale member and a positive isotopic excursion is detected in the coral algal limestone(CAL).The observed positive isotopic excursion in the lower part of the CAL correlates with OAE1 d and suggests the global nature of the late Albian OAE1 d in the Cauvery Basin.

Masseter Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials: A new tool to assess the vestibulomasseteric reflex pathway

Purpose: This review article provides the readers with an in-depth insight in understanding and interpreting various research literatures on the masseter vestibular evoked myogenic potentials(mVEMP). The article also reviews the contemporary researches involving the clinical applications of the mVEMP. Conclusions: Masseter VEMP is an evolving yet clinically promising neuro-otology test tool that has recently gained more research interest and is considered an additional tool to diagnose various vestibular disorders. Masseter VEMP assesses the functional integrity of the acoustic-masseteric and vestibulo-masseteric reflex pathways. The mVEMP could be used as a complementary test to evaluate the same peripheral generator as the cervical VEMP but a different central pathway i.e., vestibulo-trigeminal pathway. Various research studies that have experimented on parameters such as the effect of different electrode montages(zygomatic vs mandibular configurations), stimulation rates, filter settings and stimuli used to evoke mVEMP have been discussed in this article that could assist in the optimization of a comprehensive clinical protocol. The latency and the amplitude of mVEMP waveforms serve as significant parameters in differentiating normals from those of the clinical populations. Along with the cVEMPs and oVEMPs, mVEMP might help diagnose brainstem lesions in rEM Sleep behaviour disorders, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. However, further studies are required to probe in this area of research.
