Geologically representative feature engineering is a crucial component in geoscientific applications of machine *** commonly applied feature engineering techniques used to produce input variables for machine learning apply geological knowledge to generic data science techniques,which can lead to ambiguity,geological oversimplification,and/or compounding subjective *** that utilize minimally processed input variables attempt to overcome these issues,but often lead to convoluted and uninterpretable *** address these challenges,new and enhanced feature engineering methods were developed by combining geological knowledge,understanding of data limitations,and a variety of data science *** include non-Euclidean fluid pre-deformation path distance,rheological and chemical contrast,geologically constrained interpolation of characteristic host rock geochemistry,interpolation of mobile element gain/loss,assemblages,magnetic intensity,structural complexity,host rock physical *** methods were applied to compiled open-source and new field observations from Archean greenstone terranes in the Abitibi and western Wabigoon sub-provinces of the Superior Province near Timmins and Dryden,Ontario,*** feature maps represent conceptually significant components in magmatic,volcanogenic,and orogenic mineral systems.A comparison of ranked feature importance from random forests to conceptual mineral system models show that the feature maps adequately represent system components,with a few exceptions attributed to biased training data or limited constraint *** study also highlights the shared importance of several highly ranked features for the three mineral systems,indicating that spatially related mineral systems exploit the same features when *** feature importance when classifying orogenic Au mineralization in Timmins and Dryden provides insights into the possible cause of contrasting endowment be

Multifunctional FeCo-Graphitic Carbon Nanocrystals for Combined Imaging, Drug Delivery and Tumor-Specific Photothermal Therapy in Mice

Ultrasmall FeCo-graphitic carbon shell nanocrystals （FeCo/GC） are promising multifunctional materials capable of highly efficient drug delivery in vitro and magnetic resonance imaging in vivo. In this work, we demonstrate the use of FeCo/GC for highly effective cancer therapy through combined drug delivery, tumor-selective near-infrared photothermal therapy, and cancer imaging of a 4T1 syngeneic breast cancer model. The graphitic carbon shell of the ~4 nm FeCo/GC readily loads doxorubicin （DOX） via π-π stacking and absorbs near-infrared light giving photothermal heating. When used for cancer treatment, intravenously administrated FeCo/GC-DOX led to complete tumor regression in 45% of mice when combined with 20 min of near-infrared laser irradiation selectively heating the tumor to 43-45 ℃. In addition, the use of FeCo/GC-DOX results in reduced systemic toxicity compared with free DOX and appears to be safe in mice monitored for over 1 yr. FeCo/GC-DOX is shown to be a highly integrated nanoparticle system for synergistic cancer therapy leading to tumor regression of a highly aggressive tumor model.

Interactive data styling and multifocal visualization for a multigrid web-based Digital Earth

Globe-based Digital Earth(DE)is a promising system that uses 3D models of the Earth for integration,organization,processing,and visualization of vast multiscale geospatial *** growing size and scale of geospatial datasets present significant obstacles to interactive viewing and meaningful visualizations of these DE *** address these challenges,we present a novel web-based multiresolution DE system using a hierarchical discretization of the globe on both server and client *** presented web-based system makes use of a novel data encoding technique for rendering large multiscale geospatial datasets,with the additional capability of displaying multiple simultaneous *** the data needed for the current views and scales are encoded and *** leverage the power of GPU acceleration on the client-side to perform real-time data rendering and dynamic *** rendering of multiple views allows us to support multilevel focus+context visualization,an effective approach to navigate through large multiscale global *** client–server interaction as well as the data encoding,rendering,styling,and visualization techniques utilized by our presented system contribute toward making DE more accessible and informative.

High Performance In Vivo Near-Ir (>1 μm) Imaging and Photothermal Cancer Therapy with Carbon Nanotubes

Short single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs)functionalized by PEGylated phospholipids are biologically non-toxic and long-circulating nanomaterials with intrinsic near infrared photoluminescence(NIr PL),characteristic raman spectra,and strong optical absorbance in the near infrared(NIr).This work demonstrates the first dual application of intravenously injected SWNTs as photoluminescent agents for in vivo tumor imaging in the 1.0-1.4μm emission region and as NIr absorbers and heaters at 808 nm for photothermal tumor elimination at the lowest injected dose(70μg of SWNT/mouse,equivalent to 3.6 mg/kg)and laser irradiation power(0.6 W/cm2)reported to *** vivo resonance raman imaging revealed the SWNT distribution within tumors at a high spatial *** tumor elimination was achieved for large numbers of photothermally treated mice without any toxic side effects after more than six months ***,side-by-side experiments were carried out to compare the performance of SWNTs and gold nanorods(AuNrs)at an injected dose of 700μg of AuNr/mouse(equivalent to 35 mg/kg)in NIr photothermal ablation of tumors in *** effective tumor elimination with SWNTs was achieved at 10 times lower injected doses and lower irradiation powers than for *** results suggest there are significant benefits of utilizing the intrinsic properties of biocompatible SWNTs for combined cancer imaging and therapy.

Background:In seasonal,pasture-based,dairy production systems,cows must recover from calving and become pregnant within two to 3 *** achieve this,the uterus must involute and ovulation must occur and continue at regular *** these processes are affected by the cows’nutritional or metabolic status post-calving,the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cow feeding strategies on uterine health,the length of postpartum anestrous interval,and reproductive *** treatments consisted of two feeding strategies during late-lactation and early dry period(far-off period;starting 4-month pre-calving)and three close-up dry period feeding regimes(1-month pre-calving)in a 2×3 factorial *** randomly assigned 150 cows to one of two far-off *** late lactation,the herds(n=75 cows per herd)were either control-fed(Controlfed)or over-fed(Overfed)to achieve a low or high body condition score(4-month pre-calving;BCS;~4.25 and^4.75;10-point scale)at cessation of *** each of these treatments,three feeding levels were applied during the close-up period(1-month pre-calving):~65%(Feed65),~90%(Feed90),or^120%(Feed120)of metabolizable energy(ME)intakes relative to pre-calving ***:Uterine health improved(***(PMN)cells declined)with increased feeding during the close-up period for cows in the Overfed *** reverse was evident for the Controlfed group with the greatest PMN at the highest intakes during the close-up *** postpartum anoestrous interval(PPAI)was shorter in cows from the Overfed group when moderately fed(Feed90)during the close-up period;in comparison,the PPAI was shorter in the Controlfed group,when those cows were overfed in the close-up period(Feed120).The cows in the Overfed treatment had greater conception and pregnancy rates if cows had moderate dry matter intakes(Feed90)during the close-up period;these reproductive variables were less under excessive feed inta
