Wound healing activity of aqueous extract of Crotalaria verrucosa in Wistar albino rats

Objective:To evaluate the wound healing effect of aqueous extract of Crotalaria verrucosa(C. verrucosa) in ***:Three wound models including incision,excision and dead space wounds were used in this *** parameters studied were breaking strength in incision models,granulation tissue dry weight,breaking strength and hydroxyproline content in dead space wounds,percentage of wound contraction and period of epithelialization in excision wound ***:Two doses of the extract with and without dexamethasone showed significant increases in mean hydroxyproline,total protein content and dry weight of granulation tissue but it was higher with dose 800 mg/kg comparing with the *** dexamethasone treated group showed a significant(Preduction in the wound breaking strength when compared to control group in incision type of wound *** of *** with dexamethasone significantly(Preased the breaking strength compared to the dexamethasone treated only *** excision wound model,the percentage of the wound contraction was significantly(Preased by two doses of test extract on all the days except the lower dose which exhibited only on 12th,16th days of drug treatment and it also reversed the dexamethasone suppressed wound *** significantly(Preduced the time required for epithelialization and reversed the epithelialization delaying effect of dexamethasone (Property. This was evident by decrease in the period of epithelialization,increase in the rate of wound contraction,skin breaking strength,and granulation tissue dry weight *** C. verrucosa could be a good wound healing agent.

Centrifugal model test on a riverine landslide in the Three Gorges reservoir induced by rainfall and water level fluctuation

Frequent soil landslide events are recorded in the Three Gorges reservoir area,China,making it necessary to investigate the failure mode of such riverside *** centrifugal test is considered to be the most realistic laboratory model,which can reconstruct the required *** this study,the Liangshuijing landslide in the Three Gorgers reservoir area is selected for a scaled centrifugal model experiment,and a water pump system is employed to retain the rainfall *** the techniques of digital photography and pore water pressure transducers,water level fluctuation is controlled,and multi-physical data are thus obtained,including the pore water pressure,earth pressure,surface displacement and deep *** analysis results indicate that:Three stages were set in the test(waterflooding stage,rainfall stage and drainage stage).Seven transverse cracks with wide of 1–5 mm appeared during the model test,of which 3 cracks at the toe landslide were caused by reservoir water fluctuation,and the cracks at the middle and rear part were caused by *** rainfall process,the maximum displacement of landslide model reaches 3 *** the maximum deformation of the model exceeds 12 cm at the drainage *** failure process of the slope model can be divided into four stages:microcracks appearance and propagation stage,thrust-type failure stage,retrogressive failure stage,and holistic failure *** the thrust-type zone caused by rainfall was connected or even overlapped with the retrogressive failure zone caused by the drainage,the landslide would start,which displayed a typical composite failure *** failure mode and deformation mechanism under the coupling actions of water level fluctuation and rainfall are revealed in the model test,which could appropriately guide for the analysis and evaluation of riverside landslides.

Imaging Analysis of Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis:Female Pelvi...

Purpose: To analyze the computed tomography(CT) findings and the reasons for misdiagnosis of female pelvic ***: The clinical and CT features of 32 cases of female pelvic tuberculosis identified over a five-year period(2010-2015) were retrospectively analyzed. The CT features were analyzed for nature, range and extent of the various pathological ***: Because of the non-specific clinical and CT features, 20 of 32 cases were misdiagnosed either as ovarian tumor, or chocolate cyst, or PID preoperatively and received surgery. The mean age of the patients was 29.97 years(age range 15-67 years). Elevated levels of serum CA125 were found in 29 patients(90.62%, 29/32). The CT findings were as follows: 1. Pelvic mass(87.5%, 28/32): unilateral adnexal mass was in 15 cases, bilateral in 13 cases, 8 masses were cystic, 10 were solid, 23 were mixed, 24 masses showed multilocular caseous necrotic enhancement;2. Ascites(40.62%, 13/32): 8 of 13 cases showed high density ascites(CT value >18 HU);3. Thickening and enhancement of peritoneum(37.5%, 12/32): nodulously thickened in 7 cases, smoothly in 5 cases;4. Adhesion in the abdominopelvic cavity(28.12%, 9/32);5. Lymphadenopathy(21.87%, 7/32): calcified in 4 cases, low attenuation necrotic lymph nodes with ring enhancement in 2 cases;6. Thickening and enhancement of bowel wall(15.62%, 5/32).Conclusions: Integrated with clinical history and laboratory tests, pelvic tuberculosis should be considered in young female patients with elevated CA125 and CT findings ofadnexal mixed(solid and cystic) mass with multilocular caseous necrotic enhancement, high density ascites, thickened and enhanced peritoneum. Plants are natural experts in organic synthesis,being able to generate large numbers of specific metabolites with widely varying structures that help them adapt to variable survival *** is a research discipline that integrates the capabilities of several types of research including analytical chemistry,statistics,and *** ongoing development provides strategies for gaining a systematic understanding of quantitative changes in the levels of *** is usually performed by targeting either a specific cell,a specific tissue,or the entire *** advances in science and technology over the last three decades have propelled us into the era of multi-omics,in which metabolomics,despite at an earlier developmental stage than genomics,transcriptomics,and proteomics,offers the distinct advantage of studying the cellular entities that have the greatest influence on end ***,we summarize the state of the art of metabolite detection and identification,and illustrate these techniques with four case study applications:(i)comparing metabolite composition within and between species,(ii)assessing spatio-temporal metabolic changes during plant development,(iii)mining characteristic metabolites of plants in different ecological environments and upon exposure to various stresses,and(iv)assessing the performance of metabolomics as a means of functional gene identification,metabolic pathway elucidation,and metabolomics-assisted breeding through analyzing plant populations with diverse genetic *** addition,we highlight the prominent contributions of joint analyses of plant metabolomics and other omics datasets,including those from genomics,transcriptomics,proteomics,epigenomics,phenomics,microbiomes,and ion-omics ***,we discuss future directions and challenges exploiting metabolomics-centered approaches in understanding plant metabolic diversity.

Management of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction

BACKGrOUND: Splenic artery aneurysms although rare are clinically significant in view of their propensity for spontaneous rupture and life-threatening bleeding. While portal hypertension is an important etiological factor, the majority of reported cases are secondary to cirrhosis of the liver. We report three cases of splenic artery aneurysms associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction and discuss their management. METHODS: The records of three patients of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction managed from 2003 to 2010 were reviewed retrospectively. The clinical presentation, surgical treatment and outcome were analyzed. rESULTS: The aneurysm was >3 cm in all patients. The clinical symptoms were secondary to extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (hematemesis in two, portal biliopathy in two) while the aneurysm was asymptomatic. Doppler ultrasound demonstrated aneurysms in all patients. A proximal splenorenal shunt was performed in two patients with excision of the aneurysm in one patient and ligation of the aneurysm in another one. The third patient had the splenic vein replaced by collaterals and hence underwent splenectomy with aneurysmectomy. All patients had an uneventful post-operative course. CONCLUSIONS: Splenic artery aneurysms are associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment. Although technically difficult, it can be safely performed in an experienced center with minimal morbidity and good outcome.

Evaluation of diuretic and laxative activity of hydro-alcoholic extract of Desmostachya bipinnata(L.) Stapf in rats

OBJECTIVE： In continuation to the growing evidence for therapeutical potential of Desmostachya bipinnata （Linn） Stapf, the current pharmacological study was carried out to evaluate the diuretic and laxative activity of its hydro-alcoholic extract in rats. METHODS： The hydro-alcoholic extract of D. bipinnata whole plant was prepared by using Sox- hlet extractor and subjected to analysis by standard preliminary phytochemical tests. Evaluation of both diuretic and laxative activity was carried out using standard methods as reported earlier. Frusemide （20 mg/kg） was served as positive control for diuretic activity and sennosides （10 mg/kg） served as negative control for laxative activity. rESULTS： The hydro-alcoholic extract showed significant diuretic activity and was found to be the most potent in increasing the urinary output at 500 mg/kg when the effect was compared with that of the standard frusemide （P〈0.01）. Moreover, this extract was found to be most effective in increasing urinary electrolyte concentration （Na＋, K＋, and Cl-） at both doses tested. Whereas the results for laxative activity showed minimal increase of feces output at the dose of 500 mg/kg and the increase was negligible when compared with that of the standard drug sennosides. CONCLUSION： Altogether, the above significant findings validate and support its folkloric diuretic use and lend pharmacological credence to the ethno-medical use of this plant in traditional system of medicine, which demands further studies to investigate its active constituents, as well as its use and safety.

Approximately 40%of treatments of chronic and recurrent osteomyelitis fail in part due to bacterial *** aureus,the predominant pathogen in human osteomyelitis,is known to persist by phenotypic adaptation as small-colony variants(SCVs)and by formation of intracellular reservoirs,including those in major bone cell types,reducing susceptibility to *** infections with *** are difficult to treat;however,there are no evidence-based clinical guidelines addressing these infections in *** conducted a systematic review of the literature to determine the demonstrated efficacy of all antibiotics against intracellular *** relevant to osteomyelitis,including protein biosynthesis inhibitors(lincosamides,streptogramins,macrolides,oxazolidines,tetracyclines,fusidic acid,and aminoglycosides),enzyme inhibitors(fluoroquinolones and ansamycines),and cell wall inhibitors(beta-lactam inhibitors,glycopeptides,fosfomycin,and lipopeptides).The PubMed and Embase databases were screened for articles related to intracellular *** infections that compared the effectiveness of multiple antibiotics or a single antibiotic together with another treatment,which resulted in 34 full-text articles fitting the inclusion *** combined findings of these studies were largely inconclusive,most likely due to the plethora of methodologies ***,the reported findings in the context of the models employed and possible solutions for improved understanding are explored *** rifampicin,oritavancin,linezolid,moxifloxacin and oxacillin were identified as the most effective potential intracellular treatments,the scientific evidence for these is still relatively *** advocate for more standardized research on determining the intracellular effectiveness of antibiotics in *** osteomyelitis to improve treatments and patient outcomes.
