towards climate resilient urban energy systems: a review

Climate change and increased urban population are two major concerns for *** towards more sustainable energy solutions in the urban context by integrating renewable energy technologies supports decarbonizing the energy sector and climate change mitigation.A successful transition also needs adequate consideration of climate change including extreme events to ensure the reliable performance of energy systems in the long *** review provides an overview of and insight into the progress achieved in the energy sector to adapt to climate change,focusing on the climate resilience of urban energy *** state-of-the-art methodology to assess impacts of climate change including extreme events and uncertainties on the design and performance of energy systems is described and *** resilience is an emerging concept that is increasingly used to represent the durability and stable performance of energy systems against extreme climate ***,it has not yet been adequately explored and widely used,as its definition has not been clearly articulated and assessment is mostly based on qualitative *** study reveals that a major limitation in the state-of-the-art is the inadequacy of climate change adaptation approaches in designing and preparing urban energy systems to satisfactorily address plausible extreme climate ***,the complexity of the climate and energy models and the mismatch between their temporal and spatial resolutions are the major limitations in linking these ***,few studies have focused on the design and operation of urban energy infrastructure in terms of climate *** the occurrence of extreme climate events and increasing demand for implementing climate adaptation strategies,the study highlights the importance of improving energy system models to consider future climate variations including extreme events to identify climate resilient energy transition pathways.

Complete Solution of Large Plastic Deformation of Square Plates Under Exponentially Decaying Pulse Loading

the rigid-plastic assumption has greatly simplified the theoretical analysis of dynamic plastic response of *** this framework,a common tool is the modal technique using approximate independent yield criteria,which leads to upper-and lower-bound solutions,but usually with poor *** this paper,by utilizing the membrane factor method(MFM),the large-deflection dynamic plastic response of square plates subjected to exponentially decaying pulse loading is analyzed by taking both the transient response phase and the exact yield criterion into *** on the combination of saturation analysis(SA)and MFM,the complete solutions and regressive formulae of saturated deflection and saturated impulse are *** the dynamic behavior of plates under rectangular pulse loading serves as a benchmark of pulse-equivalent techniques,the large plastic deformation of square plates under short-duration rectangular pulse is also analyzed in ***,by comparing the SA results of pulse-loaded square plates with different boundary conditions,it is found that the saturated deflection and saturated impulse of the fully clamped and simply supported square plates both increase linearly with the pulse amplitude,and the slopes are approximately the same,so the conversion between the SA quantities of plates with different boundary conditions can be easily achieved.

An improved outer pipe method for expansive pressure measurement of static cracking agents

Static cracking agent(SCA)is actively investigated as an alternative to explosive blasting for rock breakage due to its immense expansion *** can eliminate the negative effects of shock,noise and harmful gases encountered in explosive blasting *** measurement and deep understanding of the expansive properties of SCAs are important in their industrial *** improved outer pipe method(OPM),termed the upper end surface method(UESM),is proposed in this paper to overcome the shortcomings of the OPM in the expansive pressure measurement of *** simulation is used to proof the concept and a mathematical model established to relate the internal pressure and the radial strains at different positions in the upper end surface method test *** new equipment is calibrated using oil pressure and strain *** calibrated equipment is then used to measure the expansion pressure of SCA at three different water contents to proof its *** differences in the measurements with OPM and UESM at three different moisture contents are less than 4%.the experimental results confirm the accuracy and applicability of the more user friendly and less expensive UESM in the measurement of the expansive pressures of SCAs.

A complete set of procedure for determination of multiresidue of pesticides in vegetables was presented in this *** complete set of procedure included three steps:bioassay,cholinesterase inhibition and GLC *** samples could be identified to be contaminated with pesticides if 5% of house flies was knocked down in 50 tested house flies. those samples contaminated with pesticides needed to be detected by AChE inhibition *** qualitative and quantitative analyses were carried out by *** ranged from 83.7% in Chinese cabbages to 105.6% in tomatoes for pyrethroids,and 84.0% in tomatoes to 102.7% in sweetbell redpeppes for organophosphorus *** of variations ranged from 0.59% to organophosphorus *** of variations ranged from 0.59% to 7.87% for pyrethroids. and 0.33% to 9.88% for organophosphorus compounds with vegetables. the complete set of procedure has been used successfully to analyze 7000 samples collected in Beijing. About 1% of the samples had a pesticide content exceeding the MrL.

Sickle Cell Anemia(SCA)is a prevalent genetic condition in Saudi Arabia,particularly in the jazan *** study’s purpose was to assess the prevalence of de-pression among individuals with SCA in this area and to identify the factors associated with this *** study involved 391 adult participants,all patients in the hematology center of Prince Mohammed bin Nasser Hospital(PMNH).Data was collected through an anonymous interview questionnaire–the Arabic version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9)–between March–May *** questionnaire covered socio-demographic information and variables related to the participant’s SCA history,such as pain levels,frequency of pain,hospitalization duration,and frequency of blood *** variables underwent Chi-square and One-way ANOVA testing,followed by multivariate *** study found a 42%prevalence of depression among the SCA *** significantly linked with heightened depression levels included being widowed or divorced,experiencing frequent and severe pain,and longer duration of hospital *** educational level of at least a bachelor’s degree was also a significant *** study reveals a high prevalence of depression among SCA patients in the jazan *** underscores the need for policymakers to educate both physicians and patients about the importance of mental health in SCA *** study also highlights the need for more research into the specific causes and effects of depressive symptoms in SCA patients to inform the creation of effective management plans.

turbulent flows in a three-dimensional side-dump combustor under various side-inlet angles and head heights are presented in terms of the axial mean velocity,swirl intensity,size of the head recirculation zone,and fraction of the inlet mass flow rate transported into the head *** turbulence model adopted is the algebraic reynolds stress(k-ε-A)*** effect of the side-inlet angle and the head height on the characteristics of the confined impinging flows are documented and some improved explanations to the existence of the optimum inlet angle and head height are addressed in this study.

BACKGrOUND： the ＂Era of Big Data＂ and ＂Precision Medicine＂ is now upon us. that is, interrogation of large data sets obtained from groups of similar patients or from the patient themselves over time will now hypothetically permit therapies to be designed to provide maximal efficacy with minimal side effects. However, such discoveries depend upon recruitment of very large numbers of subjects （tens of thousands） along with their associated biospecimens and medical records. When considering the establishment of a biobank or the refocusing of an existing repository for the purpose of＂omics＂ research （i.e., genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, microbiomics, etc.） and/or precision medicine, there are a number of considerations to ponder. Each of these facets is discussed. OBjECtIVE： the objective of this review is to describe best practices for the establishment and operations ofa biobank that will be used for omics （genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbiomics） analyses based on published literature and our own practical experiences. MEtHODS： We describe the most commonly described approaches to a variety of biobanking issues, including our own practical experiences over the past 5 years. rESULtS： Based on the particular biobanking situation and downstream application, we have described best practices based on the literature and own experience, taking into consideration ease of application and costs. CONCLUSIONS： the banking of various types of clinical biospecimens has many valuable uses but often depends on overall costs versus sample utility. In addition, specimen flexibility is important but is influenced by the ease or difficulty of the application. It is always preferable to collect and stored a biospecimen in a format that allows for multiple types of downstream analyses, but that often requires additional expertise, equipment and reagents that can increase overall costs. We have described the methodologies most successfully applied to many situations.
