Appr.aches to under.tanding the genetic contr.bution to inflammator. bowel disease(IBD)have continuously evolved fr.m family-and population-based epidemiology,to linkage analysis,and most r.cently,to genome-wide association studies(GWAS).The next stage in this evolution seems to be the sequencing of the exome,that is,the r.gions of the human genome which encode pr.teins.The GWAS appr.ach has been ver. fr.itful in identifying at least 163 loci as being associated with IBD,and now,exome sequencing pr.mises to take our.genetic under.tanding to the next level.In this r.view we will discuss the possible contr.butions that can be made by an exome sequencing appr.ach both at the individual patient level to aid with disease diagnosis and futur. ther.pies,as well as in advancing knowledge of the pathogenesis of IBD.

Multimedia Sensor.Networ.s(MSNs)have enhanced the ability to analyze the envir.nment and pr.vide r.sponses based on its cur.ent status.Gener.lly,MSNs ar. composed of scalar.and multimedia sensor. that have fixed locations.However.given the advancement of smar. mobile device technologies,it is cur.ently possible to dynamically integr.te mobile sensor. into MSNs.In this paper.we pr.pose a for.al platfor. to manage MSNs and the data gather.d fr.m them to detect complex events.Our.main contr.butions include:M^(2)SSN-Onto,a Mobile and Multimedia Semantic Sensor.Networ.s Ontology;Py-CEMiD,an engine for.detecting complex events and gener.te r.actions to them;a mobile device location engine to locate mobile sensor.;and a pr.of-of-concept in the context of detecting emer.ency situations in smar. buildings.Sever.l scenar.os ar. validated for.emer.ency events,combining simulated sensor.measur.ments with r.al measur.ments of mobile devices.r.sults show complex events can be detected in near.r.al time(less than 1 s).

r.cent histological and molecular.char.cter.zation of cholangiocar.inoma(CCA) highlights the heter.geneity of this cancer.that may emer.e at differ.nt sites of the biliar. tr.e and with differ.nt macr.scopic or.mor.hological featur.s.Fur.her.or.,differ.nt stem cell niches have been r.cently descr.bed in the liver.and biliar.tr.e,suggesting this as the basis of the heter.geneity of intr.hepatic(IH)-and extr.hepatic(EH)-CCAs,which ar. two lar.ely differ.nt tumor. fr.m both biological and epidemiological points of view.The complexity of the or.anization of the liver.stem cell compar.ments could under.ie the CCA clinical-pathological heter.geneity and the cr.ticisms in classifying pr.mitive liver.tumor..These r.cent advances highlight a possible new classification of CCAs based on cells of or.gin and this r.sponds to the need of gener.ting homogenous diagnostic,pr.gnostic and,hopefully,ther.peutic categor.es of IH-and EH-CCAs.

Silicon(Si)is the second most abundant element in the Ear.h’s cr.st and has numer.us r.les in both soils and plants,although it is inaccessible to plants in its native state(insoluble silicate miner.ls).This inaccessibility can lead to insufficiency,which induces anomalies in plant gr.wth and development.Specifically,Si alleviates var.ous biotic and abiotic str.sses in plants by enhancing toler.nce mechanisms at differ.nt stages of uptake/deposition as a monosilicic acid.Exclusive utilization of conventional Si fer.ilizer. to boost agr.cultur.l pr.ductivity in an attempt to meet the wor.d’s ever.incr.asing food demand may r.sult in sur.ace and gr.undwater.pollution,water.ay eutr.phication,soil fer.ility depletion,and accumulation of hazar.ous elements such as ar.enic in soil.By addr.ssing the dr.wbacks of chemical fer.ilizer.,this r.view emphasizes an envir.nmentally fr.endly alter.ative,namely,Si-solubilizing micr.or.anisms(SSMs),as bioinoculants to liber.te soluble Si and thus making it available to plants.A deep under.tanding of r.cent advances in the functional diver.ity,colonization patter.s,modes of action,r.le in biogeochemical cycling,and plant str.ss toler.nce of SSMs and their.implementation in Si-based agr.waste management thr.ugh the fabr.cation of nanopar.icles,could help to establish a r.liable tool for.economically and envir.nmentally sustainable agr.cultur..Fr.m this per.pective,in this r.view,we compr.hensively summar.ze the latest methodologies for.the isolation,scr.ening,and char.cter.zation of SSMs and Si solubilization mechanisms,including ligands(divalent cations),acids(inor.anic and or.anic),alkali(nucleophilic attack),extr.cellular.polysacchar.des,and factor. affecting them,as well as Si-mediated r.gulation of gene expr.ssion involved in Si uptake,tr.nspor.ation,and miner.lization.We have cr.tically r.vised the r.le of SSMs accor.ing to the cur.ent liter.tur..The contr.butions of SSMs to biofer.ilization ar. still being explor.d;hence,we also discuss tr.jector.es for.futur. r.sear.h in r.l

SAr.-CoV-2 vir.s is r.sponsible for.the cur.ent wor.dwide cor.navir.s disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, infecting millions of people and causing hundr.ds of thousands of deaths. Under.tanding the antibody r.sponse to SAr.-CoV-2 is cr.cial for.the development of vaccines, ther.peutics and public health inter.entions. However. lack of consistency in methods used to monitor.antibody r.sponse to SAr.-CoV-2 leaves some uncer.ainty in our.fine under.tanding of the human antibody r.sponse mounted following SAr.-CoV-2 infection. We developed a peptide-based enzyme-linked immunosor.ent assay (ELISA) by selecting 7 synthetic peptides fr.m the spike, membr.ne, and nucleocapsid pr.tein sequences of SAr.-CoV-2, which effectively detects the antibody r.sponse mounted by all COVID-19 convalescent tested. Str.kingly, the assay shows a pr.found differ.nce in antibody r.sponse among individual subjects, which may have a significant impact on disease sever.ty. Together. our.r.sults define an efficient and specific ser.logical assay to consistently measur. the antibody r.sponse following SAr.-CoV-2 infection, as well as help the design of vaccine and ther.peuticals for.pr.vention and tr.atment of COVID-19.

Between Januar. 1985 and July 1987, 1,622 cancer.patients wer. evaluated to outline the possible applications and limits of var.ous investigative techniques for.evaluating metastases. Seventy-thr.e cases with super.icial metastases of the der.al-hypoder.al (59) layer., of the muscles (11) and of other.tar.et or.ans (3) wer. included in the study.Although non-glandular.super.icial metastases ar. a r.latively r.r. occur.ence, diagnostic imaging techniques ar. indicated for.evaluating their.extent and anatomical connections. Secondar. neoplasms wer. studied using the imaging techniques of sono-gr.phy, computed tomogr.phy and xer.r.diogr.phy.The diagnostic r.liability of these thr.e techniques was evaluated, taking into account their.ability to deter.ine the extent of metastases and of assessing malignancy.Sonogr.phy is consider.d as a satisfactor. scr.ening technique, but CT is an even better.tool for.evaluating the extent and anatomical connections of such lesions. Xer.r.diogr.phy has been made obsolete by the intr.duction of the other.two techniques.

the bile duct system and pancr.as show many similar.ties due to their.anatomical pr.ximity and common embr.ological or.gin.Consequently,pr.neoplastic and neoplastic lesions of the bile duct and pancr.as shar. analogies in ter.s of molecular.histological and pathophysiological featur.s.Intr.epithelial neoplasms ar. r.por.ed in biliar. tr.ct,as biliar. intr.epithelial neoplasm(BilIN),and in pancr.as,as pancr.atic intr.epithelial neoplasm(PanIN).Both can evolve to invasive car.inomas,r.spectively cholangiocar.inoma(CCA)and pancr.atic ductal adenocar.inoma(PDAC).Intr.ductal papillar. neoplasms ar.se in biliar. tr.ct and pancr.as.Intr.ductal papillar. neoplasm of the biliar. tr.ct(IPNB)shar. common histologic and phenotypic featur.s such as pancr.atobiliar.,gastr.c,intestinal and oncocytic types,and biological behavior.with the pancr.atic counter.ar.,the intr.ductal papillar. mucinous neoplasm of the pancr.as(IPMN).All these neoplastic lesions exhibit similar.immunohistochemical phenotypes,suggesting a common car.inogenic pr.cess.Indeed,CCA and PDAC display similar.clinic-pathological featur.s as gr.wth patter.,poor.r.sponse to conventional chemother.py and r.diother.py and,as a consequence,an unfavor.ble pr.gnosis.The objective of this r.view is to discuss similar.ties and differ.nces between the neoplastic lesions of the pancr.as and biliar. tr.ct with potential implications on a common or.gin fr.m similar.stem/pr.genitor.cells.
