Hydrogen production at intermediate temperatures with proton conducting ceramic cells:Electrocatalytic activity,durability and energy efficiency

Proton conducting ceramic cells(PCCs)are an attractive emerging technology operating in the intermediate temperature range of 500 to 700℃.In this work,we evaluate the production of hydrogen at intermediate temperatures by proton conducting ceramic cell electrolysis(PCCEL).We demonstrate a highperformance steam electrolysis owing to a composite positrode based on BaGd_(0.8)La_(0.2)Co_(2)O_(6-δ)(BGLC1082)and BaZr0.5Ce0.4Y0.1O3-δ(BZCY541).The high reliability of PCCEL is demonstrated for 1680 h at a current density as high as-0.8 A cm^(-2)close to the thermoneutral cell voltage at 600℃.The electrolysis cell showed a specific energy consumption ranging from 54 to 66 kW h kg^(-1)that is comparable to state-of-the-art low temperature electrolysis technologies,while showing hydrogen production rates systematically higher than commercial solid oxide ceramic cells(SOCs).Compared to SOCs,the results verified the higher performances of PCCs at the relevant operating temperatures,due to the lower activation energy for proton transfer comparing with oxygen ion ***,because of the p-type electronic conduction in protonic ceramics,the energy conversion rate of PCCs is relatively lower in steam *** faradaic efficiency of the PCC in electrolysis mode can be increased at lower operating temperatures and in endothermic conditions,making PCCEL a technology of choice to valorize high temperature waste heat from industrial processes into *** increase the faradaic efficiency by optimizing the materials,the cell design,or the operating strategy is a key challenge to address for future developments of PCCEL in order to achieve even more superior techno-economic merits.

Dear Editor, The multiple targeting proteins that have been described in yeast, mammals, and plants have generated intriguing areas of inquiry, including the evolutionary relevance of common proteins shared by different organelles, the mechanisms that determine targeting to each organelle, and, finally, the extent of this phenomenon. Several dual-targeted proteins have been identified in eukaryotic cells.

In 2010,a major scientific milestone was achieved for tree fruit crops:publication of the first draft whole genome sequence(WGS)for apple(Malus domestica).This WGS,v1.0,was valuable as the initial reference for sequence information,fine mapping,gene discovery,variant discovery,and tool development.A new,high quality apple WGS,GDDH13 v1.1,was released in 2017 and now serves as the reference genome for *** the past decade,these apple WGSs have had an enormous impact on our understanding of apple biological functioning,trait physiology and inheritance,leading to practical applications for improving this highly valued *** gene identities for phenotypes of fundamental and practical interest can today be discovered much more ***-wide polymorphisms at high genetic resolution are screened efficiently over hundreds to thousands of individuals with new insights into genetic relationships and ***-density genetic maps are constructed efficiently and quantitative trait loci for valuable traits are readily associated with positional candidate genes and/or converted into diagnostic tests for *** understand the species,geographical,and genomic origins of domesticated apple more precisely,as well as its relationship to wild *** WGS has turbo-charged application of these classical research steps to crop improvement and drives innovative methods to achieve more durable,environmentally sound,productive,and consumer-desirable apple *** review includes examples of basic and practical breakthroughs and challenges in using the apple *** for“what’s next”focus on necessary upgrades to the genome sequence data pool,as well as for use of the data,to reach new frontiers in genomics-based scientific understanding of apple.

Background: Patients with syncope or near syncope of unknown etiology represen t a great challenge to cardiologists. An initial symptomatic episode triggers a series of diagnostic analysis which remain unsatisfactory when negative. More in vasive tools such as electrophysiologic testing yield only partial answers to ri sk stratification while the complementary implantable holter diagnostics are not usually considered until a recurrent episode is documented. Objective: This stu dy targets predictors of significant cardiac rhythmic events in patients with a reported episode of syncope or near syncope presenting with negative diagnostics and electrophysiologic study results(EPS). A significant cardiac rhythmic event was defined as a combined end-point of(1) symptomatic AV block;(2) symptomatic conduction abnormalities requiring pacemaker therapy;(3) symptomatic sustained ventricular arrhythmia; and(4) sudden ***: All patients undergoing EPS after a first episode of syncope or presyncope between January 1997 and Decembe r 2001 were included for analysis. The study population consisted of 329 pts(42. 6%women), 21 to 96 years old(mean 70±15 years) referred for an EP study for sy ncope or near syncope. results: Of the 329 patients who underwent EPS, 305(92.7 %) had follow-up data. The population, mean age 70(±15 years) and composed of 42%women, presented with hypertension(51.5%), diabetes mellitus(14.4%), hype rcholesterolemia(30%), tobacco use(35%), a familial history of coronary heart disease(22%), history of stroke(4%), history of mi(12%), history of atrial fi brillation(10%), structural heart disease(17.4%), left ventricular ejection fr action 61(±11%) and ECG abnormalities(37%). These anomalies included right(rB BB) or left(LBBB) bundle branch blocks, left anterior fascicular block(LAFB), le ft posterior fascicular block(LPFB), bifascicular block(rBBB +LAFB) and traces of myocardial in farction. The Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC)is a large scientific project initiated and hosted by China,fostered through extensive collaboration with international *** complex comprises four accelerators:a 30 GeV Linac,a 1.1 GeV Damping ring,a Booster capable of achieving energies up to 180 GeV,and a Collider operating at varying energy modes(Z,W,H,and tt).The Linac and Damping ring are situated on the surface,while the subterranean Booster and Collider are housed in a 100 km circumference underground tunnel,strategically accommodating future expansion with provisions for a potential Super Proton Proton Collider(SPPC).The CEPC primarily serves as a Higgs *** its baseline design with synchrotron radiation(Sr)power of 30 MW per beam,it can achieve a luminosity of 5×10^(34)cm^(-2)s^(-1)per interaction point(IP),resulting in an integrated luminosity of 13 ab^(-1)for two IPs over a decade,producing 2.6 million Higgs *** the Sr power to 50 MW per beam expands the CEPC's capability to generate 4.3 million Higgs bosons,facilitating precise measurements of Higgs coupling at sub-percent levels,exceeding the precision expected from the HL-LHC by an order of *** Technical Design report(TDr)follows the Preliminary Conceptual Design report(Pre-CDr,2015)and the Conceptual Design report(CDr,2018),comprehensively detailing the machine's layout,performance metrics,physical design and analysis,technical systems design,r&D and prototyping efforts,and associated civil engineering ***,it includes a cost estimate and a preliminary construction timeline,establishing a framework for forthcoming engineering design phase and site selection *** is anticipated to begin around 2027-2028,pending government approval,with an estimated duration of 8 *** commencement of experiments and data collection could potentially be initiated in the mid-2030s.
