The Influence of Chitin Nanocrystals on Structural Evolution of Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene/Chitin Nanocrystal Fibers in Hot-drawing Process

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene（UHMWPE）/chitin nanocrystal（CNC） fibers were prepared. Compared with the pure UHMWPE fibers, the ultimate tensile strength and Young＇s modulus of UHMWPE/CNC fibers are improved by 15.7% and 49.6%, respectively, with the addition of chitin nanocrystals（CNCs） of 1 wt%. The melting temperature（Tm） of UHMWPE/CNC fibers was higher than that of pure UHMWPE fibers. Pure UHMWPE fibers and UHMWPE/CNC fibers were characterized with respect to crystallinity, orientation and kebab structure by wide-angle X-ray diffraction（WAXD）, small-angle X-ray scattering（SAXS） and scanning electron microscopy（SEM）. It is found that the CNCs act as the shish structure in UHMWPE/CNC fibers and the kebab crystals are grown around the CNCs. There was almost no difference between pure UHMWPE fibers and UHMWPE/CNC fibers in orientation. But the degree of crystallinity of various stages of UHMWPE/CNC fibers was respectively higher than the corresponding stage of pure UHMWPE fibers. Moreover, the addition of 1 wt% CNCs improved the thickness of kebab crystals and accelerated the transformation of kebab to shish.

Citrinal A （1）, a novel tricyclic compound with a rare tetrahydro-2H-benzofuro[7-b] [ 1,4]dioxin-9（3H）-one skeleton, along with two known related compounds, citrinin （2） and 2,3,4-trimethyl-5,7-dihydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran （3） were isolated from an algicolous fungus Penicillium sp. i-1-1. The structure and stereochemistry of 1 were determined by comprehensive spectral and biogenic analysis. Its cytotoxic effects on the A-549 and HL-60 cell lines were evaluated. ？2009 Qian qun gu. Biomechanical characterization of a novel ring connector for sutureless aortic anastomosis

The surgical treatment for aortic diseases remains a challenge for any cardiac surgeon. The use of sutureless ring connector in aortic anastomosis can simplify the procedure and shorten anastomosis time. Therefore, we developed a novel device for sutureless aortic anastomosis. A series of experiments were carried out for tensile and leakproofcapacity assessments to verify the feasibility of the ring connector by using fresh swine aorta samples. In in vivo test,the ring connector was implanted in 6 swine with follow-up of 6 months. Radiographic and pathological studies of the aorta were performed. In the tensile tests, the strength was 32.7±5.9 Newton(N) in the sutureless anastomosis group,compared with 73.3±12.5 N in the control group by traditional manual suture. In the leakproof-capacity assessment,no sign of either leakage or bursting was evident at 280 mmHg of internal pressure in the aorta samples. In in vivo tests,it took 9.47±0.3 minutes for the sutureless anastomosis, compared with 15.58± 1.39 minutes for hand-sewn suturing. Insertion was easy and rapid. Radiographic and pathological studies were performed at first month, third month and sixth month after surgery, each time obtained from the two swine, showed patency of the anastomosis and no signs of stenosis, blood leakage, migration or pseudoaneurysm formation, except one paralyzed swine developed of thrombo-occlusion at the site of the sutureless anastomosis. The result indicates that this novel ring connector offers considerable promise for sutureless aortic anastomosis.

Optimization of atrioventricular delay by surface electrocardiography during dual chamber pacing

Background Nominal atrioventricular （AV） interval in dual chamber pacemaker （DDD） is not the best AV delay in the majority of patients with atrioventricular block. To find a simple method for optimizing AV delay adjustment, we assessed surface electrocardiography （ECG） for optimizing AV delay during dual chamber pacing. Methods DDD pacemakers were implanted in 46 patients with complete, or almost complete, AV block. Optimal AV delay was achieved by programming an additional delay of 100 ms, to the width of intrinsic P wave or to the interval between pacing spike to the end of P wave on surface ECG. Leit ventricular （LV） end diastolic and end systolic volumes, ejection fraction and diastolic parameters were measured by Doppler echocardiography during both nominal and optimal AV delay pacing.Results Compared to nominal AV delay setting, LV end diastolic volume increased [to （53.2±11.3） ml from （50.2 ± 10.2） ml, P〈0.05], end systolic volume decreased [to （26.1 ± 9.0） ml from （27.9 ± 8.2） ml, P〈0.05] during adjusted AV delay pacing, resulting in an increase in LV ejection fraction [to （68.2±5.3）% from （64.5±4.3）%, P〈0.05]. LV diastolic filling and isovolumic relaxation time were not significantly changed.Conclusion Optimization of AV delay by surface ECG is a simple method to improve LV systolic function during dual chamber pacing.

Poly（3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate）（PHBV）/chitin nanocrystals（CNC） composite scaffolds were synthesized by the salt leaching and thermally induced phase separation（TIPS） *** scaffolds have porous structures with macro-pores（100-300 μm in diameters） and micro-pores（10μm）.The surface characteristics of the scaffolds were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS） and static water contact angle measurement,and the mechanical properties were investigated by a compression *** adipose-derived stem cells（hADSCs） were seeded onto the PHBV/CNC scaffolds and in vitro cell culture results showed that the composite scaffolds enhanced the hADSCs adhesion,which implies that the material may have potential application in tissue engineering.

To avoid the secondary frequency dip caused by the steep drop of the electrical power of wind turbines(WTs)at the end of frequency support stage,the torque limit-based iner-tial control(TLIC)method sets the power reference as a linear function of rotor speed,rather than the step form for the step-wise inertial ***,the compensation effect on the frequency nadir(FN)caused by the load surge is weakened as the TLIC power is no longer in the step ***,the maximum point of the frequency response component(FRC)contributed by TLIC occurs earlier than the minimum point of FRC corresponding to the load surge,so that the FN cannot be adequately ***,this paper first investigates the relation between the peak and nadir times of FRCs stimulated by the TLIC and load *** this basis,with the compensation principle of matching the peak and nadir times of FRCs,the improved TLIC method based on delayed support is ***,the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated via the experiments on the test bench of wind-integrated power system.

Their structures were established by spectroscopic and chemical methods. Both compounds *** cytotoxic activity against tsFT210 cells.

Andrology has a long history in traditional Chinese medicine. There are records of male sexual health, male sexual dysfunction and male infertility from over thousands of years ago. Modern andrology in China had a late start, with the Chinese Androlo~ Association founded in 1995. Within last decade, andrology in China has grown rapidly. In this review article, we summarized the progress of androlo~ in last 10 years and outlined the current status of Chinese andrology with a special focus on progress in male erectile dysfunction, prostate diseases, male infertility and male hormonal contraception.
