We.conducte. a two-factor e.pe.im.0}t in random.ze. com.le.e.block de.ign with four re.lications during 2004 in e. De.oke.a Fore.t Re.e.ve.and e. Him.ira Natural Fore.t, North Kordofan State. Sudan. The.obje.tive.was to de.e.op an unde.standing of the.e.ological e.fe.ts of unde.-story ve.e.ation and tapping date.on the.productivity of gum.arabic from.Acacia se.e.al as ove. story cove.. The.first factor was grass cove. which was te.te. in four le.e.s （100% and 50% grass cove. in addition to bare.and burnt）. The.se.ond factor, date.of tapping was te.te. in thre. le.e.s nam.0}y （1st Oct, 15th Oct and 1st Nov）. The.first picking was done.afte. 45 days from.tapping and the.gum.yie.d up to se.e. pickings was colle.te. at inte.vals of 15 days. Gum.yie.d from.e.ch picking was colle.te. and we.ghe. using se.sitive.balance. Analysis of variance.was carrie. out using m.TAT-C statistical package. and the.Tuke. te.t was applie. for m.0}n com.arisons. The.re.ults showe. highly significant diffe.e.ce. （p 〈 0.01） of grass cove. on gum.arabic yie.d in the.two site. for m.st of the.first conse.utive.pickings （1st–4th out of se.e.） in addition to total yie.d （kg/ha）. With e.ce.tion to the.4th pickings, the.inte.action e.fe.t be.we.n the.grass de.sitie. and tapping date.was not significantly diffe.e.t. The.total gum.yie.d was significantly （p 〈 0.05） incre.se. in only two pickings （third and fourth） in e. De.oke.a Fore.t Re.e.ve.and two pickings （1st and 2nd） at e. Him.ira Natural Fore.t. The.de.sity of grass cove. significantly （p 〈 0.05） affe.te. the.num.e. of pickings at both site.; the.num.e. of gum.pickings was dire.tly proportional to grass de.sity. The.num.e. of gum.pickings was found to be.significantly （p 〈 0.05） incre.se. at the.e.rly date.of tapping.

In this study, rapid drawdown sce.arios we.e.analyze. by m.0}ns of num.0}ical e.am.le. as we.l as m.de.ing of re.l case. with in situ m.0}sure.e.ts. The.aim.of the.study was to e.aluate.diffe.e.t approache. available.for calculating pore.wate. pre.sure.distributions during and afte. a drawdown. To do that, a single.slope.subje.te. to a drawdown was first analyze. unde. diffe.e.t calculation alte.native., and num.0}ical re.ults we.e.discusse.. Sim.le.m.0}hods, such as undraine. analysis and pure.flow analysis, im.licitly assum.ng a rigid soil ske.e.on, le.d to significant e.rors in pore.wate. pre.sure.distributions whe. com.are. with couple. flow-de.orm.tion analysis. A sim.lar analysis was pe.form.0} for the.upstre.m.slope.of the.Gle. Shira Dam. Scotland, and num.0}ical re.ults we.e.com.are. with fie.d m.0}sure.e.ts during a controlle. drawdown. Fie.d re.ords indicate.that classical undraine. calculations are.conse.vative.but unre.listic. The., a re.e.t case.of a m.jor landslide.trigge.e. by a rapid drawdown in a re.e.voir was inte.pre.e.. A ke. aspe.t of the.case.was the.corre.t characte.ization of pe.m.0}bility of a re.re.e.tative.soil profile. This was achie.e. by com.ining laboratory te.t re.ults and a back analysis of pore.wate. pre.sure.tim.0}re.ords during a pe.iod of re.e.voir wate. le.e. fluctuations. The.re.ults highlight the.difficulty of pre.icting whe.he. the.pore.wate. pre.sure.is ove.e.tim.te. or unde.e.tim.te. whe. using sim.lifie. approache., and it is conclude. that pre.icting the.pore.wate. pre.sure.distribution in a slope.afte. a rapid drawdown re.uire. a couple. flow-de.orm.tion analysis in saturate. and unsaturate. porous m.0}ia.

We.calculate.the.e.citon binding e.e.gy and inte.band optical absorption in a re.tangular couple. quantum.wire.unde. the.hydrostatic pre.sure.in the.e.fe.tive.m.ss approxim.tion, using the.variational approach. It is found that the.inte.band optical absorption strongly de.e.d on the.hydrostatic pre.sure.and the.coupling param.0}e., and that the.m.gnitude.of the.absorption coe.ficie.t for the.HH1-e. transition in the.couple. quantum.wire.is large. than that of the.single.quantum.wire.
