Enhanced and asymmetric signatures of hybridization at climatic margins: Evidence from closely related dioecious fig species

Hybridization plays a significant role in biological evolution. However, it is not clear whether ecological contingency differentially influences likelihood of hybridization, particularly at ecological margins where parental species may exhibit reduced fitnesses. Moreover, it is unknown whether future ecosystem change will increase the prevalence of hybridization. Ficus heterostyla and F. squamosa are closely related species co-distributed from southern Thailand to southwest China where hybridization, yielding viable seeds, has been documented. As a robust test of ecological factors driving hybridization, we investigated spatial hybridization signatures based on nuclear microsatellites from extensive population sampling across a widespread contact range. Both species showed high population differentiation and strong patterns of isolation by distance. Admixture estimates exposed asymmetric interspecific gene *** of hybridization increase significantly towards higher latitude zones, peaking at the northern climatic margins. Geographic variation in reproductive phenology combined with ecologically challenging marginal habitats may promote this phenomenon. Our work is a first systematic evaluation of such patterns in a comprehensive, latitudinally-based clinal context, and indicates that tendency to hybridize appears strongly influenced by environmental conditions. Moreover, that future climate change scenarios will likely alter and possibly augment cases of hybridization at ecosystem scales.

Photocatalytic selective transform native lignin into valuable chemicals is an attractive but challenging ***,we report a mesoporous sulfur-doped carbon nitride(MSCN-0.5)which is prepared by a facile one-step thermal condensation *** is highly active and selective for the cleavage Cα-Cβbond inβ-O-4 lignin model compound under visible light radiation at room temperature,achieving 99%substrate conversion and 98%Cα-Cβbond cleavage *** studies revealed that the Cβ-H bond of lignin model compounds activated by holes and generate key Cβradical intermediates,further induced the Cα-Cβbond cleavage by superoxide anion radicals(·O2-)to produce aromatic *** Camellia oleifera shell(WCOS)was taken as a representative to further understand the reaction mechanisms on native lignin.33.2 mg of monophenolic compounds(Vanillin accounted for 22%and Syringaldehyde for 34%)can be obtained by each gram of WCOS lignin,which is 2.5 times as that of the pristine carbon *** present work offers useful guidance for designing metal-free heterogeneous photocatalysts for Cα-Cβbond cleavage to harvest monophenolic compounds.

The yellow seed trait is preferred by breeders for its potential to improve the seed quality and commercial value of Brassica *** the present study,we produced yellow seed mutants using a CRISPR/Cas9 system when the two BnPAP2 homologs were knocked *** staining of the seed coat demonstrated that proanthocyanidin accumulation was significantly reduced in the pap2 double mutants and decreased specifically in the endothelial and palisade layer cells of the seed *** and metabolite profiling analysis suggested that disruption of the BnPAP2 genes could reduce the expression of structural and regulated genes in the phenylpropanoid and flavonoid biosynthetic *** broad suppression of these genes might hinder proanthocyanidin accumulation during seed development,and thereby causing the yellow seed trait in *** results indicate that BnPAP2 might play a vital role in the regulatory network controlling proanthocyanidin accumulation.

Rare mutation in MKRN3 in two twin sisters with central precocious puberty: Two case reports

BACKGROUND Caused by premature activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis,there is increasing incidence of central precocious puberty(CPP),especially in *** ring finger protein 3(MKRN3),a maternal imprinted gene with a highly conserved sequence,is the most common genetic etiology associated with *** 50 different mutations in MKRN3 have been found in *** SUMMARY This case report involves identical twin sisters presenting with premature thelarche at the age of 6 *** left hand bone age of both patients revealed advanced age(9 years).Pelvic B ultrasound indicated enlargement of the *** hormone(LH)releasing hormone testing confirmed *** sequencing detected the c.841C>T mutation in MKRN3,leading to a single base substitution,in the *** mutation was inherited from the father and paternal *** 3 mo of treatment with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog,levels of LH,follicle-stimulating hormone,and estradiol in the proband’s sister returned to normal *** Here,we report a rare mutation(c.841C>T)in MKRN3 in identical twin sisters with CPP.

Quantum entanglement plays a key role in both understanding the fundamental aspects of quantum physics and realizing various quantum devices for practical applications. Here we propose how to achieve a coherent switch of optomechanical entanglement in an optical whispering-gallery-mode resonator, by tuning the phase difference of the driving lasers. We find that the optomechanical entanglement and the associated two-mode quantum squeezing can be well tuned in a highly asymmetric way,providing an efficient way to protect and enhance quantum entanglement against optical backscattering, in comparison with conventional symmetric devices. Our findings shed a new light on improving the performance of various quantum devices in the practical noisy environment, which is crucial in such a wide range of applications as noise-tolerant quantum processing and the backscattering-immune quantum metrology.

The three-component reaction of aromatic aldehyde,malononitrile and aliphatic amine in a mixed solvent of methanol and water exhibited very interesting molecular diversity and gave the derivatives of polysubstituted N-methyldihydropyridines,2-dialkylaminopyridines and 2-methoxypyridines as main products according to the structure of aliphatic amines used.

To further improve the control accuracy for strip dimension of hot strip mills,an adaptive control scheme is investigated for a hot strip finishing mill based on the decentralization and coordination among the controllers of gauge,tension and ***,the adaptive controller designed can regulate simultaneously the strip exit thickness,the strip tension and the looper angle to ensure better performance of the strip quality of finishing ***,the control scheme is proposed in consideration of the essential nonlinearity and the unavoidable friction phenomena in the mechanical system,so the controller can be efficient in a wider range of working *** simulation results of a model obtained from a real hot strip finishing mill show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme in comparison with the conventional control method.

Antioxidant and cardioprotective effects of Ilex cornuta on myocardial ischemia injury

Previous studies have indicated that the Ilex genus exhibits antioxidant, neuroprotective, hepatoprotective, and antiinflammatory activities. However, the pharmacologic action and mechanisms of Ilex cornuta against cardiac diseases have not yet been explored. The present study was designed to investigate the antioxidant and cardioprotective effects of Ilex cornuta root with in vitro and in vivo models. The anti-oxidative effects of the extract of Ilex cornuta root(ICR) were measured by 2, 2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free-radical scavenging and MTT assays as well as immunoassay. Furthermore, a rat model of myocardial ischemia was established to investigate the cardioprotective effect of ICR in vivo. Eight compounds were isolated and identified from ICR and exhibited DPPH free-radical scavenging activities. They also could increase cell viability and inhibit morphological changes induced by H_2O_2 or Na_2S_2O_4 in H9c2 cardiomyocytes, followed by increasing the SOD activities and decreasing the MDA and ROS levels. In addition, it could suppress the apoptosis of cardiomyocytes. In the rat model of myocardial ischemia, ICR decreased myocardial infarct size and suppressed the activities of LDH and CK. Furthermore, ICR attenuated histopathological alterations of heart tissues and the MDA levels, while increasing SOD activities in serum. In conclusion, these results suggest that ICR has cardioprotective activity and could be developed as a new food supplement for the prevention of ischemic heart disease.
