Urbanization causes hydrological change and increases stormwater runoff volumes, leading to flooding, erosion, and the degradation of instream ecosystem health. Best management practices （BMPs）, like detention ponds and infiltration trenches, have been widely used to control flood runoff events for the past decade. However, low impact development （liD） options have been proposed as an alternative approach to better mimic the natural flow regime by using decentralized designs to control stormwater runoff at the source, rather than at a centralized location in the watershed. For highly urbanized areas, liD stormwater management practices such as bioretention cells and porous pavements can be used to retrofit existing infrastructure and reduce runoff volumes and peak flows. This paper describes a modeling approach to incorporate these liD practices and the two BMPs of detention ponds and infiltration trenches in an existing hydrological model to estimate the impacts of BMPs and liD practices on the surface runoff. The modeling approach has been used in a parking lot located in Lenexa, Kansas, USA, to predict hydrological performance of BMPs and liD practices. A performance indicator system including the flow duration curve, peak flow frequency exceedance curve, and runoff coefficient have been developed in an attempt to represent impacts of BMPs and liD practices on the entire spectrum of the runoff regime. Results demonstrate that use of these BMPs and liD practices leads to significant stormwater control for small rainfall events and less control for flood events.

AIM:To investigate the distribution and neurochemical phenotype of endomorphin-2(EM-2)-containing neurons in the submucosal plexus of the rat ***:The mid-colons between the right and left flexures were removed from rats,and transferred into Kreb's solution. For whole-mount preparations,the mucosal,outer longitudinal muscle and inner circularmuscle layers of the tissues were separated from the submucosal layer attached to the submucosal plexus. The whole-mount preparations from each rat mid-colon were mounted onto seven gelatin-coated glass slides,and processed for immunofluorescence histochemical double-staining of EM-2 with calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP),choline acetyltransferase(Ch AT),nitric oxide synthetase(NOS),neuron-specific enolase(NSE),substance P(SP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP). After staining,all the fluorescence-labeled sections were observed with a confocal laser scanning microscope. To estimate the extent of the co-localization of EM-2 with CGRP,Ch AT,NOS,NSE,SP and VIP,ganglia,which have a clear boundary and neuronal cell outline,were randomly selected from each specimen for this analysis. RESULTS:In the submucosal plexus of the mid-colon,many EM-2-immunoreactive(IR) and NSE-IR neuronal cell bodies were found in the submucosal plexus of the rat mid-colon. Approximately 6 ± 4.2 EM-2-IR neurons aggregated within each ganglion and a few EM-2-IR neurons were also found outside the ganglia. The EM-2-IR neurons were also immunopositive for Ch AT,SP,VIP or NOS. EM-2-IR nerve fibers coursed near Ch AT-IR neurons,and some of these fibers were even distributed around Ch AT-IR neuronal cell bodies. Some EM-2-IR neuronal cell bodies were surrounded by SP-IR nerve fibers,but many long processes connecting adjacent ganglia were negative for EM-2 immunostaining. Objective Obstructive sleep apnea（OSA） is a major cause of sleep disturbance and closely associated with prediabetes（pre-DM） and type 2 diabetes（T2DM） for its relationship with impaired glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. OSA treatments, such as continuous positive airway pressure（CPAP）, have been shown to improve the blood glucose control. Obesity is the most important risk factor for OSA, the increased prevalence of obesity has also elevated the incidence of OSA in the general population. Obesity is often found OSA subjects, and both obesity and OSA are high risk factors for abnormal glucose metabolism. In the Look AHEAD study, 86% of overweight and obese adults with T2DM were found to have OSA on polysomnogram（PSG） screening, in which the high prevalence of obesity might play a crucial role. Studies have confirmed that the prevalence and complications of OSA increase significantly with age. At present, most studies about OSA have focused on old people, and less attention has been paid to the glucose metabolism in OSA patients younger than 45 years. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea（OSA） and prediabetes/type 2 diabetes（T2DM） and to explore the factors influencing glucose metabolism in overweight and obese young adults with OSA. Methods This was a cross-sectional study in which anthropometrics, overnight polysomnogram（PSG）, oral glucose tolerance-insulin releasing test（OGTT-IRT） and serum glycosylated hemoglobin A1（HbA1c） detection were performed, and the insulin resistance and pancreatic β-cell function were assessed. The apnea-hypopnea index（AHI） was used to assess the severity of OSA. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics 25.0. Background Increasingly, evidence from population, clinic-based and laboratory studies supports an independent association between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome （OSAS） and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes; however, this observation has yet to be replicated in China and the potential mechanisms that link these two conditions are not clear. Methods A total of 179 Han Chinese subjects were enrolled in this study. All subjects underwent polysomnography, the oral glucose tolerance-insulin releasing test （OGTT-IRT） and serum HbAlc measurement. Indexes including homeostasis model assessment-IR （HOMA-IR）, Matsuda index, HOMA-β, early phase insulinogenic index （△I30 / △G30）, AUC-I180 and oral disposition index （DIo） were calculated for the assessment of insulin resistance and pancreatic β-cell function. Results Based on OGTT, 25.4%, 44.6% and 54.5% subjects were diagnosed having glucose metabolic disorders respectively in control, mild to moderate and severe OSAS groups （P 〈0.05）. Serum HbA1c levels were highest in subjects with severe OSAS （P 〈0.05）. In contrast, compared with normal subjects, HOMA-β, △I30/△G30 and DIo were lower in severe OSAS group （P 〈0.05）. In stepwise multiple linear regressions, 0-min glucose and HbAlc were positively correlated with the percentage of total sleep time below an oxyhemoglobin saturation of 90% （T90）（Beta = 0.215 and 0.368, P 〈0.05）; 30-min and 60-min glucose was negatively correlated with the lowest SpO2 （LSpO2）（Beta = -0.214 and -0.241, P 〈0.05）. HOMA-β and Dlowere negatively correlated with T90 （Beta = -0.153 and -0.169, P 〈0.05） while body mass index （BMI） was the only determinant of HOMA-IR and Matsuda index. Conclusions OSAS is associated with impairment in glucose tolerance and pancreatic β-cell function in Han Chinese subjects while insulin sensitivity is mainly determined by obesity.
