Nanofiltration Membranes via Layer-by-layer Assembly and Cross-linking of Polyethyleneimine/Sodium Lignosulfonate for Heavy Metal Removal

Layer-by-layer(LbL)assembly technology is a facile method for constructing thin film composite ***,a novel nanofiltration(NF)membrane was prepared by LbL assembly of polyethyleneimine(PEI)and sodium lignosulfonate(LS)followed by *** surface composition,morphology,and property of PEI/LS bilayer were detailedly investigated by FTIR/ATR,XPS,SEM,AFM,and water contact angle *** PEI/LS bilayer full of amino and hydroxyl groups presents increased roughness and improved ***,the NF performance of PEI/LS LbL assembly membranes can be modulated by bilayer number,polyelectrolyte concentration,and salt *** water flux reduced while the salt rejection greatly improved as increasing the bilayer numbers,PEI concentration,or NaCl *** than 95%MgSO4 and MgCl2,as well as 80%NaCl can be rejected by a NF membrane prepared by 6 PEI/LS bilayers,1 wt%PEI,0.5 wt%LS,and 1 mol/L ***,this NF membrane can be used to remove more than 95%heavy metal ions(Cd2+,Zn2+,Mn2+,Cr2+,Cu2+,and Ni2+).This work proposed a promising NF membrane by using PEI/LS as low cost polyelectrolytes and facile LbL assembly method,which should receive much attention in water purification.

Toughening of Poly(propylene carbonate) by Carbon Dioxide Copolymer Poly(urethane-amine) via Hydrogen Bonding Interaction

A carbon dioxide copolymer poly（urethane-amine）（PUA） was blended with poly（propylene carbonate）（PPC） in order to improve the toughness and flexibility of PPC without sacrificing other mechanical properties. Compared with pure PPC, the PPC/PUA blend with 5 wt% PUA loading showed a 400% increase in elongation at break, whilst the corresponding yielding strength remained as high as 33.5 MPa and Young＇s modulus showed slightly decrease. The intermolecular hydrogen bonding interaction in PPC/PUA blends was comfirmed by FTIR, 2D IR and XPS spectra analysis, and finely dispersed particulate structure of PUA in PPC was observed in the SEM images, which provided good evidence for the toughening mechanism of PPC.

Polydopamine/Imogolite Nanotubes(PDA/INTs)Interlayer Modulated Thin Film Composite Forward Osmosis Membrane for Minimizing Internal Concentration Polarization

Forward osmosis(FO)as an energy-saving membrane process has attracted much attention in food concentration,water treatment,and *** film composite(TFC)membrane is the most popular FO membrane,but it suffers from the internal concentration polarization(ICP),which significantly limits the water flux and FO *** this report,we demonstrate a novel and high-performing thin film nanocomposite(TFN)membrane that employs a hydrophilic interlayer composed of imogolite nanotubes(INTs)and polydopamine(PDA).The INTs can be adhered to the porous substrate by the self-polymerization of PDA,and the as-prepared PDA/INTs interlayer displays a nanostructured network with outstanding *** detailed investigation was conducted to understand the relationship between the structure and property of the PDA/INTs interlayer and the morphology and performance of the TFN *** TFN membrane with the PDA/INTs interlayer performs a thinner and smoother polyamide selective ***,the TFN membrane shows a water flux of 18.38 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1),which is 2.18 times of the pristine TFC ***,the TFN membrane has a minimized structural parameter(577μm),almost a half of that of the pristine one(949μm).It reveals that the ICP effect of TFC membrane can be effectively alleviated by using a hydrophilic PDA/INTs *** TFN membrane with a satisfactory water permeability is promising in terms of future applications.

High Performance Bio-based Polyurethane Elastomers： Effect of Different Soft and Hard Segments

In this work, a series of high performance bio-based polyurethanes（bio-PUs） were synthesized from polylactide（PLA）-based diols, different diisocyanates（TDI, MDI, HDI, IPDI） and chain extender 1,4-butanediol, in which different soft and hard segments are used to adjust their transition temperatures and mechanical properties. Poly（lactide-co-caprolactone）copolymer diols（co-PLAols） instead of PLA diols as the soft segment improved the thermal stability and mechanical properties of the synthesized bio-PUs. Among them, MDI-based bio-PUs have the highest T_g（43.8 °C）, tensile strength（23.5 MPa） and modulus（380.8 MPa）, while HDI-based bio-PUs have the lowest T_g（21.4 °C） and highest elongation at break（580%）. Especially, the bio-PUs synthesized from co-PLAols and MDI demonstrate better mechanical properties,closed to petroleum-based commodities. Furthermore, the obtained bio-PUs display good shape memory properties at body temperature and cytocompatibility. Therefore, these bio-PUs are promising for applications in biomedical fields.

Effect of the vortical structures on the hydrodynamic performance of a pitching hydrofoil

The objective is to study the vortical structural behaviors of a transient pitching hydrofoil and their effects on the hydrodynamic performance. The pitching motion of the hydrofoil is set to pitch up with an almost constant rate from 5° to 15° and then back to 5°, with the Reynolds number 4.4×10^(5) and the frequency 2 Hz. The results show that the main coherent structures around the pitching hydrofoil include small-scale laminar separation bubble (LSB), large-scale second vortex (SV) and trailing edge vortex (TEV) which are all vortical. The relationship between the vortical structure and the lift is investigated with the finite-domain impulse theory. It indicates that the major part of the lift is contributed by the LSB, whereas the shedding and the formation of the SV and TEV cause the fluctuation of the lift. The proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method is applied to capture the most energetic modes, revealing that the LSB mode occupies a large amount of energy in the flow field. The dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) method accurately extracts the dominant frequency and modal characteristics, with the first mode corresponding to the mean flow, the second mode corresponding to the LSB structure and the third and fourth modes corresponding to the vortex shedding.

RiceDB:A Web-Based Integrated Database for Annotating Rice Microarray

RiceDB, a web-based integrated database to annotate rice microarray in various biological contexts was developed. It is composed of eight modules. RiceMap module archives the process of Affymetrix probe sets mapping to different databases about rice, and aims to the genes represented by a microarray set by retrieving annotation information via the identifier or accession number of every database; RiceGO module indicates the association between a microarray set and gene ontology （GO） categories; RiceKO module is used to annotate a microarray set based on the KEGG biochemical pathways; RiceDO module indicates the information of domain associated with a microarray set; RiceUP module is used to obtain promoter sequences for all genes represented by a microarray set; RiceMR module lists potential microRNA which regulated the genes represented by a microarray set; RiceCD and RiceGF are used to annotate the genes represented by a microarray set in the context of chromosome distribution and rice paralogous family distribution. The results of automatic annotation are mostly consistent with manual annotation. Biological interpretation of the microarray data is quickened by the help of RiceDB.

Numerical Study on Local Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Supercritical CO_(2) in PCHE with Sinusoidal Channels

Local heat transfer and flow characteristics,which is crucial to the overall performance of supercritical CO_(2) recuperators,is rarely examined in details in reported *** this paper,the local heat transfer and flow characteristics of supercritical CO_(2) in sinusoidal channel printed circuit heat exchangers are numerically investigated under the working conditions of *** on the simplified physical model constituted by10 pitches,the variations of Re,heat flux,Nu,secondary flow and other relevant parameters along the flow direction are analyzed *** is further made between the high and low temperature recuperators(HTR and LTR).It's observed that the local heat transfer and flow characteristics vary greatly from the inlet to the outlet,especially in the *** of 127.5% and 61.7% can be observed on the cold side of the LTR for Re and heat transfer coefficient h, *** indicate that the temperature difference and heat transfer coefficient h should not be regarded as constant and the distribution of h should be carefully considered in the design of the *** complicated interactions among the varying thermophysical properties,buoyancy and the periodically changed centrifugal force are believed to be the key that shapes the flow ***,the changes of the wavy angle θ are found to have greater influence than the changes of mass flow rate in reshaping the flow field when θ>25°.Though gravity direction strongly affects the local heat transfer and flow characteristics,it's also found that the effects on the overall thermal-hydraulic performance are relatively *** the installation direction that yields a_y=g should better be avoided for the sinusoidal channel printed circuit heat exchanger.
