Trace and Rare Earth Element Characteristics in Fe-Mn Carbonates Associated with Stratiform Ag-Pb-Zn Mineralization from the Lengshuikeng Ore District, jiangxi Province: Implications for Their Genesis and Depositional Environment

We performed a systematic trace and rare earth element analysis for the bedded Fe-Mn carbonate rocks related to the stratiform Ag-Pb-Zn mineralization in the Lengshuikeng ore district, jiangxi Province, South China. Three types of Fe-Mn carbonates are distinguished, namely, the massive, breccia, and vein types. Both carbonate and silicate fractions in the samples are analyzed for their trace and rare earth element concentrations using a step acid-leaching technique. Our results show that the carbonate fractions in the massive type samples have the lowest REE concentrations but pronounced positive Eu and Y anomalies with Eu/Eu＊ value from 1.3 to 6.2 and Y/Ho value from 40.1 to 59.5, and similar characteristics are also shown for the silicate fractions in the massive type samples（Eu/Eu＊=1.0-6.7, Y/Ho=20.7-55.1）. These REE characteristics are similar to those of Sedex type massive sulfide deposits worldwide, and we suggest that the massive type Fe-Mn carbonate rocks were likely formed from an exhalative volcanic-hydrothermal fluid feeding the depression basin of a volcanic lake. The high concentrations of redox-sensitive elements and ratios such as U/Th, V/Cr and V/（V＋Ni） indicate a dysoxic environment for the Fe-Mn carbonate deposition. In contrast, the breccia type and vein type Fe-Mn carbonate samples show different trace and rare earth element features from those of massive type samples, and they are more similar to the volcanic rocks and magmatic-hydrothermal fluids in the Lengshuikeng ore district and may reflect strong overprinting from volcanic and sub-volcanic magmatism related to the porphyry type mineralization in the district.

Upper airway cough syndrome in 103 children

Background: In China, upper airway cough syndrome (UACS) is only less frequent than cough-variant asthma and accounts for 24.71% of chronic cough. This study aimed to determine the pathogenetic constituents and factors affecting UACS in children of different age groups, and to identify clinical clues for diagnosing UACS and a method for curative effect evaluation. Methods: A total of 103 children with UACS whose chief complaint was chronic cough were studied from January to November 2013 at Children's Hospital, Capital Institute of Pediatrics. According to their age, children with UACS were divided into 3 groups: nursing children, pre-school children, and school-age children. We analyzed the differences in pathogenetic constituents and factors affecting UACS in children. The effect of UACS treatment was evaluated by the visual analog scale (VAS) and an objective examination. Chi-squared test and analysis of variance were performed with the SPSS 19.0 statistical software. Results: There was a high incidence of UACS in school-age children. Rhinitis with adenoid hypertrophy was the main cause of 103 suspected UACS cases. Adenoidal hypertrophy was the major cause of UACS in the pre-school children group, while rhinitis was the major reason in the nursing children and school-age children groups. AIM:To study microRNAs(miRNAs)and their potential effects in high glucose-induced human retinal pigment epithelial cell damage.METHODS:We screened the GSE52233 miRNA expression dataset for differentially expressed miRNAs(DEMs).The target genes of the top 10 DEMs were predicted using miRWalk 2.0 database,followed by function enrichment and protein-protein interaction analysis.miRNA expression was determined in the human retinal pigment epithelial cell line ARPE-19 treated with high glucose(HG)by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR).Cell proliferation was determined using cell counting kit(CCK)-8 assay.Cell cycle,apoptosis,and reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels were determined by flow cytometry.The direct interaction between miRNA and targets was validated using dual-luciferase reporter assay.RESULTS:Thirty-nine DEMs were screened,and we predicted 125 miRNA-mRNA pairs for the top 10 DEMs,including 119 target genes of seven DEMs such as miR-346,which was upregulated in diabetic retinopathy(DR).miR-346 target genes were substantially enriched in the regulation of intracellular transport and retinoic acidinducible gene I(RIG-I)-like receptor signaling pathway.Expression of three upregulated and downregulated miRNAs were verified by qRT-PCR in HG-treated ARPE-19 cells.Expression of miR-346 was elevated in HG treated ARPE-19 cells in a dose-dependent manner.HG inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis,which were partly reversed by transfecting an miR-346 inhibitor,which even decreased the ROS levels elevated due to HG.Argonaute 2(AGO2)was a target of miR-346.CONCLUSION:miR-346 is a key miRNA and plays an important role in HG-induced damage in human retinal pigment epithelial cells.

BACKGROUND Some studies have directed towards an association between diabetes mellitus(DM)and prostate cancer(PCa);however,this specific relationship remains inconclusive.In recent years,Mendelian randomization(MR)has become a widely used analytical method for inferring epidemiological causes.AIM To investigated the potential relationship between DM and PCa using MR.METHODS We downloaded relevant data on"diabetes"and"PCa"from the IEU OpenGWAS project database,performed three different methods to conduct MR,and carried out sensitivity analysis for verification.RESULTS The results indicated that DM was an independent risk factor for PCa.The odds ratio(OR)values obtained using the inverse variance weighted method in this study were as follows:OR=1.018(95%confidence interval:1.004-1.032),P=0.014.CONCLUSION We found that DM could increase the incidence rate of PCa.

Involvement of NLRP3-inflammasome pathway in noise-induced hearing loss

The inflammasome is a multiprotein oligomer in the cell cytoplasm and is part of the innate immune system.It plays a crucial role in the pathological process of noise-induced hearing loss(NIHL).However,the mechanisms of NLR family pyrin domain containing 3(NLRP3)inflammasome activation in NIHL have not been clearly demonstrated.In this study,miniature pigs were exposed to white noise at 120 dB(A)and auditory brainstem response measurements were used to measure their hearing function.Immunofluorescence staining,confocal laser scanning microscopy,western blot assay,and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction were used to analyze inflammasome-related protein distribution and expression.NLRP3,interleukin-1β,interleukin-18,and cleaved-caspase-1 were highly expressed in the cochlea after 120 dB(A)white noise exposure.Our findings suggest that NLRP3-inflammasomes in the cochlea may be activated after acoustic trauma,which may be an important mechanism of noise-induced hearing loss.

Twin model-based fault detection and tolerance approach for in-core self-powered neutron detectors

The in-core self-powered neutron detector(SPND)acts as a key measuring device for the monitoring of parameters and evaluation of the operating conditions of nuclear reactors.Prompt detection and tolerance of faulty SPNDs are indispensable for reliable reactor management.To completely extract the correlated state information of SPNDs,we constructed a twin model based on a generalized regression neural network(GRNN)that represents the common relationships among overall signals.Faulty SPNDs were determined because of the functional concordance of the twin model and real monitoring sys-tems,which calculated the error probability distribution between the model outputs and real values.Fault detection follows a tolerance phase to reinforce the stability of the twin model in the case of massive failures.A weighted K-nearest neighbor model was employed to reasonably reconstruct the values of the faulty signals and guarantee data purity.The experimental evaluation of the proposed method showed promising results,with excellent output consistency and high detection accuracy for both single-and multiple-point faulty SPNDs.For unexpected excessive failures,the proposed tolerance approach can efficiently repair fault behaviors and enhance the prediction performance of the twin model.

Hydrodynamic Behavior of Gap Resonance in Multiple-Box Systems with Sharp and Round Inlet Configurations

Fluid resonance within narrow gaps in multiple-box systems with sharp and round inlet configurations are investigated by using the potential flow and viscous fluid flow models in the OpenFOAM^(■)package.Evident discrepancy between two numerical models can be observed for sharp inlet configurations.In addition to the dramatical decrease of resonant amplitude in narrow gaps,some peak values at the higher resonant frequencies predicted by the potential flow model even disappear in the viscous fluid flow results.The decreased normalized resonant amplitudes with the increase of incident wave amplitude can be observed for sharp inlet configurations.However,the hydrodynamic behaviors of multiple-box system with round inlet configurations between potential flow and viscous fluid flow models are quite similar with each other.The normalized resonant amplitudes are nearly independent of incident wave amplitudes for multiple-box systems with round inlet configurations.This implies that the energy dissipation associated with fluid viscosity and flow rotation plays an important role in the gap resonance for sharp inlet configurations;while it is insignificant for round inlet configurations.

Nanofiltration Membranes via Layer-by-layer Assembly and Cross-linking of Polyethyleneimine/Sodium Lignosulfonate for Heavy Metal Removal

Layer-by-layer(LbL)assembly technology is a facile method for constructing thin film composite membrane.Herein,a novel nanofiltration(NF)membrane was prepared by LbL assembly of polyethyleneimine(PEI)and sodium lignosulfonate(LS)followed by cross-linking.The surface composition,morphology,and property of PEI/LS bilayer were detailedly investigated by FTIR/ATR,XPS,SEM,AFM,and water contact angle test.The PEI/LS bilayer full of amino and hydroxyl groups presents increased roughness and improved hydrophilicity.Moreover,the NF performance of PEI/LS LbL assembly membranes can be modulated by bilayer number,polyelectrolyte concentration,and salt content.The water flux reduced while the salt rejection greatly improved as increasing the bilayer numbers,PEI concentration,or NaCl content.More than 95%MgSO4 and MgCl2,as well as 80%NaCl can be rejected by a NF membrane prepared by 6 PEI/LS bilayers,1 wt%PEI,0.5 wt%LS,and 1 mol/L NaCl.Furthermore,this NF membrane can be used to remove more than 95%heavy metal ions(Cd2+,Zn2+,Mn2+,Cr2+,Cu2+,and Ni2+).This work proposed a promising NF membrane by using PEI/LS as low cost polyelectrolytes and facile LbL assembly method,which should receive much attention in water purification.

Sleep Apnea Monitoring System Based on Commodity WiFi Devices

To address the limitations of traditional sleep monitoring methods that highly rely on sleeping posture without considering sleep apnea,an intelligent apnea monitoring system is designed based on commodity WiFi in this paper.By utilizing linear fitting and wavelet transform,the phase error of channel state information(CSI)of the receiving antenna is eliminated,and the noise of the signal amplitude is removed.Moreover,the short-time Fourier transform(STFT)and sliding window method are combined to segment received wireless signals.Finally,several important statistical characteristics are extracted,and a back propagation(BP)neural network model is built to identify apnea state.Thus,interferences caused by changes of sleeping posture are eliminated.Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system can identify apnea state with an accuracy of over 95.6%.Furthermore,the accuracy can still reach more than 94.8%when the test environment layout is changed.Therefore,the proposed system can be used as a daily apnea monitoring system at home and provide users with health information.

Tamsulosin Monotherapy Is Effective in Reducing Ureteral Stentrelated Symptoms:A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Studies

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of tamsulosin monotherapy for the treatment of ureteral stent-related symptoms(SRSs)and compare it with that of solifenacin monotherapy and combined therapy of tamsulosin and silifenacin.Randomized controlled trials(RCTs),which evaluated the effectiveness of tamsulosin for the treatment of SRSs,were searched from the databases PubMed,EMBASE and the Cochrane Library published up to November 2018.Eight RCTs involving 1087 participants were finally included in this meta-analysis.The results showed that tamsulosin monotherapy could significantly decrease the urinary symptoms[mean difference(MD)—7.56,95%confidence interval(CI)(-11.47,-3.65),P=0.0001]and body pain[MD-5.25,95%CI(-8.03,-2.46),P=0.0002],and improve the sexual performance[MD-1.06,95%CI(-1.89,-0.24),P=0.01]compared with the control group.Moreover,there was no significant difference between tamsulosin monotherapy and solifenacin monotherapy in all outcomes except for significantly better sexual performance in solifenacin group[MD 0.29,95%CI(0.06,0.51),P=0.01].In addition,the effectiveness of combined therapy of tamsulosin and solifenacin was not superior to that of tamsulosin monotherapy.Our study demonstrated that tamsulosin monotherapy was effective for the treatment of patients with SRSs;evident superiority could not be found for therapy of tamsulosin and solifenacin combined.
