Natural exosome-like nanovesicles from edible tea flowers suppress metastatic breast cancer via ROS generation and microbiota modulation

Although several artificial nanotherapeutics have been approved for practical treatment of metastatic breast cancer,their inefficient therapeutic outcomes,serious adverse effects,and high cost of mass production remain crucial ***,we developed an alternative strategy to specifically trigger apoptosis of breast tumors and inhibit their lung metastasis by using natural nanovehicles from tea flowers(TFENs).These nanovehicles had desirable particle sizes(131 nm),exosome-like morphology,and negative zeta ***,TFENs were found to contain large amounts of polyphenols,flavonoids,functional proteins,and *** experiments revealed that TFENs showed strong cytotoxicities against cancer cells due to the stimulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)*** increased intracellular ROS amounts could not only trigger mitochondrial damage,but also arrest cell cycle,resulting in the in vitro anti-proliferation,anti-migration,and anti-invasion activities against breast cancer *** mice investigations demonstrated that TFENs after intravenous(i.v.)injection or oral administration could accumulate in breast tumors and lung metastatic sites,inhibit the growth and metastasis of breast cancer,and modulate gut *** study brings new insights to the green production of natural exosome-like nanoplatform for the inhibition of breast cancer and its lung metastasis via *** oral routes.

Electroreduction of CO_(2) into formate catalyzed by metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) is a promising avenue to promote the carbon cycle,but the oxygen evolution reaction(OER) process in anode usually limited the reaction ***,a new framework {(Me_(2) NH_(2))[Bi(L)]·4 DMF·2 H_(2) O}_n(V12) was constructed and structurally characterized(L=5,5'-(1,3,6,8-tetraoxo-1,3,6,8-tetrahydrobenzo [lmn][3,8]phenanthroline-2,7-diyl) dibenzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid;DMF=N,N-dimethylformamide).V12 possesses large one-dimensional channels with the size of 1.5 × 0.7 nm and exhibits good stability in common *** V12 was modified on electrode via electrodeposition,as-synthesized sample exhibits impressive catalytic performance for the transformation of CO_(2) into formate with Faraday efficiency of93.2% and current density of 11.78 mA cm^(-2) at-0.9 V(***).Control experiments revealed that the MOFs electrodeposition strategy significantly improves the charge transfer rate and introduces more structural defects,which promotes the reaction ***,tetra hydroisoquinoline is added as an accelerant in the anode to achieve the simultaneous generation of formate and *** importantly,the cell voltage is reduced from 2.79 to 2.52 V at 10 mA cm^(-2) in a two-electrode system due to more positive reaction *** work provides an enlightening strategy for using MOFs to establish an effective system to achieve CO_(2) reduction while obtaining high value-added oxidation products.

AIM: To investigate intraperitoneal transplantation of microencapsulated hepatic-like cells from human umbilical cord blood for treatment of hepatic failure in rats. METHODS: CD34+ cells in umbilical cord blood cells were isolated by magnetic cell sorting. In the in vitro experiment, sorted CD34+ cells were amplified and induced into hepatic-like cells by culturing with a combination of fibroblast growth factor 4 and hepatocyte growth factor. Cultures without growth factor addition served as controls. mRNA and protein levels for hepatic-like cells were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. In the in vivo experiment, the hepatic-like cells were encapsulated and transplanted into the abdominal cavity of acute hepatic failure (AHF) rats at 48 h after D-galactosamine induction of acute hepatic failure. Transplantation with PBS and unencapsulated hepatic-like cells served as controls. The mortality rate, hepatic pathological changes and serum biochemical indexes were determined. The morphology and structure of microcapsules in the greater omentum were observed. RESULTS: Human albumin, alpha-fetoprotein and GATA-4 mRNA and albumin protein positive cells were found among cultured cells after 16 d. Albumin level in culture medium was significantly increased after culturing with growth factors in comparison with culturing without growth factor addition (P lity rate of the encapsulated hepatic-like cell-transplanted group was significantly lower (P lirubin in the encapsulated group were significantly improvement compared with the PBS control group (P < 0.01). Soft robotics with new designs, fabrication technologies and control strategies inspired by nature have been totally changing our view on *** fully exploit their potential in practical applications, untethered designs are preferred in ***, hindered by the limited thermal/mechanical performance of soft materials, it has been always challenging for researchers to implement untethered solutions, which generally involve rigid forms of high energy-density power sources or high energy-density processes.A number of insects in nature, such as rove beetles, can gain a burst of kinetic energy from the induced surface-energy gradient on water to return to their familiar habitats, which is generally known as Marangoni *** by such a behavior, we report the agile untethered mobility of a fully soft robot in liquid based on induced energy gradients and also develop corresponding fabrication and maneuvering *** robot can reach a speed of 5.5 body lengths per second, which is 7-fold more than the best reported, 0.69(body length per second), in the previous work on untethered soft robots in liquid by *** controlling the robots, we demonstrate a soft-robot swarm that can approach a target simultaneously to assure a hit with high *** employing any high energy-density power sources or processes, our robot exhibits many attractive merits, such as quietness, no mechanical wear, no thermal fatigue, invisibility and ease of robot fabrication, which may potentially impact many fields in the future.

Silver dissolution in a novel leaching system: Reaction kinetics study

Effective silver recovery is usually restricted by either environmental pollution or high recovery costs. To tackle the issues, this study introduces a novel method for the effective recovery of silver by utilizing the alkaline sodium thiosulfate-potassium ferricyanide leaching system. The reaction kinetics of silver dissolution in this system was investigated via the rotating disk electrode technology. The influences of important parameters, including the rotation speed, sodium thiosulfate concentration, potassium ferricyanide concentration, and temperature, on the silver dissolution rate were systematically investigated. The activation energy was measured to be 17.96 kJ·mol^(-1) when the silver dissolution was controlled by a diffusion process. When the silver dissolution was in the region of mixed control, the reaction orders of ferricyanide and thiosulfate were found to be 0.57 and 0.19, respectively, and the reaction orders of ferricyanide and thiosulfate were 0.55 and 0.22, respectively, when the silver dissolution was controlled by surface reaction. This study has great potential for the development of an environmentally friendly silver recovery process from end-of-life products.

Crystalline InGaZnO quaternary nanowires with superlattice structure for high-performance thin-film transistors

Amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide (a-IGZO) materials have been widely explored for various thin-film transistor (TFT) applications;however, their device performance is still restricted by the intrinsic material issues especially due to their non-crystalline nature. In this study, highly crystalline superlattice-structured IGZO nanowires (NWs) with different Ga concentration are successfully fabricated by enhanced ambient-pressure chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The unique superlattice structure together with the optimal Ga concentration (i.e., 31 at.%) are found to effectively modulate the carrier concentration as well as efficiently suppress the oxygen vacancy formation for the superior NW device performance. In specific, the In1.8Ga1.8Zn2.4O7 NW field-effect transistor exhibit impressive device characteristics with the average electron mobility of ~ 110 cm^2-V^-1·s^-1 and on/off current ratio of ~ 10^6. Importantly, these NWs can also be integrated into NW parallel arrays for the construction of high-performance TFT devices, in which their performance is comparable to many state-of-the-art IGZO TFTs. All these results can evidently indicate the promising potential of these crystalline superlattice-structured IGZO NWs for the practical utilization in next-generation metal-oxide TFT device technologies.

Hawthorns are important medicinal and edible plants with a long history of health protection in *** cultivated hawthorn,other wild hawthorns may also have excellent medicinal and edible value,such as Crataegus chungtienensis,an endemic species distributed in the Southwest of *** this study,by integrating the flavor-related metabolome and transcriptome data of the ripening fruit of ***,we have developed an understanding of the formation of hawthorn fruit *** results show that a total of 849 metabolites were detected in the young and mature fruit of ***,of which flavonoids were the most detected *** the differentially accumulated metabolites,stachyose,maltotetraose and cis-aconitic acid were significantly increased during fruit ripening,and these may be important metabolites affecting fruit flavor ***,several flavonoids and terpenoids were reduced after fruit ripening compared with young ***,using the unripe fruit of *** may allow us to obtain more medicinal active ingredients such as flavonoids and ***,we screened out some differentially expressed genes(DEGs)related to fruit quality formation,which had important relationships with differentially accumulated sugars,acids,flavonoids and *** study provides new insights into flavor formation in wild hawthorn during fruit development and ripening,and at the same time this study lays the foundation for the improvement of hawthorn fruit flavor.
