Human fetuses exhibit notable sex differences in growth rate and response to the intrauterine environment,yet their origins and underlying mechanisms remain ***,we conduct a detailed investigation of sex differences in human pre-gastrulation *** lower methylation and incomplete inactivation of the X chromosome in females,as well as the sex-specific cell-cell communication patterns,contribute to sex-differential *** trophectoderm is more inclined toward syncytiotrophoblast differentiation and exhibits a stronger hormone secretion capacity,while female trophectoderm tends to retain cytotrophoblast program with stronger mitochondrial function as well as higher vasculogenesis and immunotolerance *** primitive endoderm initiates the anterior visceral endoderm transcriptional program earlier than *** cell cycle activities of the epiblast and primitive endoderm are higher in males compared to females,while the situation is opposite in the *** conclusion,our study provides in-depth insights into the sex differences in human pre-gastrulation embryos and contributes to unraveling the origins of the sex differences in human fetal development.

Small extracellular vesicles derived from human induced pluripotent stem cell-differentiated neural progenitor cells mitigate retinal ganglion cell degeneration in a mouse model of optic nerve injury

Several studies have found that transplantation of neural progenitor cells(NPCs)promotes the survival of injured ***,a poor integration rate and high risk of tumorigenicity after cell transplantation limits their clinical *** extracellular vesicles(sEVs)contain bioactive molecules for neuronal protection and *** studies have shown that stem/progenitor cell-derived sEVs can promote neuronal survival and recovery of neurological function in neurodegenerative eye diseases and other eye *** this study,we intravitreally transplanted sEVs derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells(hiPSCs)and hiPSCs-differentiated NPCs(hiPSC-NPC)in a mouse model of optic nerve *** results show that these intravitreally injected sEVs were ingested by retinal cells,especially those localized in the ganglion cell *** with hiPSC-NPC-derived sEVs mitigated optic nerve crush-induced retinal ganglion cell degeneration,and regulated the retinal microenvironment by inhibiting excessive activation of *** analysis further revealed that hiPSC-NPC derived sEVs transported neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory miRNA cargos to target cells,which had protective effects on RGCs after optic nerve *** findings suggest that sEVs derived from hiPSC-NPC are a promising cell-free therapeutic strategy for optic neuropathy.

Intrapancreatic fat deposition(IPFD)has garnered increasing attention in recent *** prevalence of IPFD is relatively high and associated with factors such as obesity,age,and ***,the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying IPFD remain unclear,with several potential contributing factors,including oxida-tive stress,alterations in the gut microbiota,and hormonal *** was found to be highly correlated with the occurrence and prognosis of exocrine pan-creatic *** imaging techniques remain the primary diagnostic approach for IPFD,an expanding array of biomarkers and clinical scoring systems have been identified for screening ***,effective treatments for IPFD are not available;however,existing medications,such as glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists,and new therapeutic approaches explored in animal models have shown considerable potential for managing this *** paper reviews the pathogenesis of IPFD,its association with exocrine pancreatic disea-ses,and recent advancements in its diagnosis and treatment,emphasizing the significant clinical relevance of IPFD.

Emission characteristics of biogenic volatile organic compounds in a subtropical pristine forest of southern China

Oxygen deficiency mechanism of La3Ni2O7–δunder pressure

The recent discovery of superconductivity in pressurized bilayer nickelate La3Ni2O7has triggered tremendous research ***,the experimentally observed oxygen deficiency implies that obtaining perfect stoichiometric single crystals is still *** influence of oxygen deficiency on physical properties remains ***,we construct a chemical potential phase diagram to characterize the stability of *** narrow stable region explains the difficulty of synthesizing pure ***,oxygen defect studies reveal that the interlayer apical oxygen vacancy has the highest defect concentrations and is responsible for oxygen ***,unfolding band structures show as the oxygen-deficient variant increases,Ni 3dz2 bands shift toward a lower energy position under the Fermi level atΓpoint,which is adverse to the metallization of Ni 3dz2 ***,high-pressure calculations indicate that oxygen vacancy would destroy the hybridization of interlayer Ni 3dz2 orbitals,and the larger the oxygen deficiency,the higher the pressure needed to metalize the Ni ***,the oxygen deficiency would suppress the emergence of superconductivity in La3Ni2O7–δ.Our results elucidate the mechanism of oxygen deficiency for superconductivity in La3Ni2O7–δand provide instructive guidance to the experimental research.

Accurate positioning of nanoantennas is critical for their efficient excitation and ***,since nanoantennas are subwavelength nanoparticles,normally smaller than the diffraction limit,measuring their positions presents a significant *** is particularly true for locating the nanoantenna along the z-direction,for which no suitable method currently ***,we have theoretically developed and experimentally validated a novel light field capable of measuring the 3D positions of nanoantennas *** field’s polarization chirality transitions from right-handed to left-handed along a predefined 3D direction at a subwavelength *** a spherical single-element nanoantenna,the polarization components of the scattering field change significantly as the nanoantenna moves,due to the rapid polarization transformation in the excitation light *** analyzing the polarization components of the scattering field,we can achieve positional accuracy of the nanoantenna along the specified direction close to 20 *** work improves the accuracy of transversely distinguishing nanoantennas from 100 pm in conventional methods to 20 ***,the positioning of the nanoantenna along three dimensions is all available as polarization transitions can be predefined along arbitrary3D direction,which is significant for precision measurement and nanoscale optics.

Grapevine(Vitis vinifera L.)is one of the most economically and culturally important perennial fruit crops in the world for fresh consumption and wine *** disease is one of the most important diseases in *** is difficult to control and causes great harm to grapevine physiology and significant economic losses in grape production(Endeshaw et al.,2014;Montero et al.,2016b;Wang et al.,2023;Yang et al.,2024).More than 80viruses have been reported to infect grapevines worldwide,and more than 20 grapevine viruses have been reported in China(Umer et al.,2019;Fan et al.,2020).Grapevine leafroll disease(GLD)is one of the most widespread and economically damaging viral diseases in grapevine around the world,and it can cause an30%-40%yield reduction per hectare without any control measures(Atallah et al.,2012).GLD is caused by a complex of virus species named grapevine leafroll-associated viruses(GLRaVs),among which GLRaV-3 is the most prevalent and economically important virus(Ling et al.,2004;Naidu et al.,2014;Martelli,2017).GLRaV-3 infection can impact vine growth,yield,berry weight,and fruit quality of some grapevine cultivars(Vega et al.,2011;Endeshaw et al.,2014;Alabi et al.,2016;Montero et al.,2016a,2016b;Cabaleiro et al.,2021;Lee et al.,2023).In addition to GLRaVs,other viruses have also been found to adversely affect grape growth and fruit *** example,Grapevine red blotchassociated virus(GRBV)can compromise crop yield and berry chemical composition,delay ripening,and damage the flavor and aroma properties of must and wine(Blanco-Ulate et al.,2017).
