Dendrochronology-based stand growth estimation of Larix olgensis forest in relation with climate on the eastern slope of Changbai Mountain, NE China

The eastern slope of Changbai Mountain is characterized by pure larch forest （Larix olgensis） with little human disturbance. Response of tree growth to climate in this area remains unknown. Meanwhile, little is known about how climate variations affect the biomass increase which could be recognized as a three-dimensional tree growth index. The objective of this study is to investigate the climate effects on the radial and biomass growth of larch on eastem slope of Changbai Mountain. Tree-ring width chronologies and mean annual biomass increment were established using tree-ring data. We used correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis to explore the relationship between larch growth and climatic factors from 1957 to 2009. Results show that tree-ring growth and mean annual biomass increment were primarily and significantly affected by previous year climatic variables with slight difference among months. Temperatures were more consistently and strongly corre- lated to the chronologies and mean annual biomass increment than was precipitation. Temperature is the main factor limiting larch growth on Changbai Mountain and the ongoing climate warming may accelerate the growth of the species. The current stand biomass of the area was ***-1 and the annual stand biomass increment in 2009 was 2.91 ***-1. In conclusion, the old-growth forest in the study area is still accumulating carbon efficiently.

Effects of nicotinamide and riboflavin on the biodesulfurization activity of dibenzothiophene by Rhodococcus erythropolis USTB-03

Rhodococcus erythropolis USTB-03 is a promising bacterial strain for the biodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene （DBT） via a sulfurspecific pathway in which DBT is converted to 2-hydroxybiphenyl （2HBP） as an end product. The effects of nicotinamide and riboflavin on the sulfur specific activity （SA） of DBT biodesulfurization by R. erythropolis USTB-03 were investigated. Both nicotinamide and riboflavin were found to enhance the expression of SA, which was not previously reported. When R. erythropolis USTB-03 was grown on a medium containing nicotinamide of 10.0 mmol or riboflavin of 50.0 μmol, SA was raised from 68.0 or so to more than 130 mmol 2HBP/（kg dry cells.h）. When R. erythropolis USTB-03 was grown in the presence of both nicotinamide of 5.0 mmol and riboflavin of 25.0 μmol, SA was further increased to 159.0 mmol 2HBP/（kg dry cells.h）. It is suggested that the biological synthesis of reduced form of flavin mononucleotide （FMNH2）, an essential coenzyme for the activities of biodesulfurization enzyme Dsz C and A, might be enhanced by nicotinamide and riboflavin, which was responsible for the increased SA of R. erythropolis USTB-03.

Carbon dioxide fixation by Chlorella ***-01 with a fermentor-helical combined photobioreactor

A promising microalgal strain isolated from fresh water,which can grow both autotrophically on inorganic carbon under lighting and heterotrophically on organic carbon without lighting,was identified as Chlorella ***-01 with the phylogenetic analysis based on 18S ribosomal ribonucleic acid(rRNA)gene *** the heterotrophic batch culture,more than 20.0 g·L^(-1)of cell dry weight concentration(DWC)of Chlorella ***-01 was obtained at day 5,and which was used directly to seed the autotrophic culture.A novel fermentor-helical combined photobioreactor was established and used to cultivate Chlorella ***-01 for the fixation of carbon dioxide(CO_(2)).It showed that the autotrophic growth of Chlorella ***-01 in the combined photobioreactor was more effective than that in the fermentor alone and the maximum DWC of 2.5 g·L^(-1)was obtained at day *** highest CO_(2)fixation of 95%appeared on day 1 in the exponential growth phases of Chlorella ***-01 and 49.8%protein was found in the harvested microalgal cells.

Simultaneous interpreting(SI)has undergone a long historical *** a variety of technologies employed in SI,the researches on it have taken on some new features and brought about new inspirations to this *** paper aims at first introducing various technologies or technological tools used in interpreting,and then reviewing on the history of the development of technology-assisted interpreting,the current researches,and their limitations,and finally drawing some inspirations from the past researches of technology-assisted SI,to offer some proposals on the future research trends on technology-assisted SI,ranging from carrying out more empirical studies and surveys to collect interpreters’attitudes towards technology used in SI,to conducting psychological experiments to analyze and explain interpreters’emotional response to technology-assisted SI,to designing specific measurements and indicators to reveal interpreters’discomfort experienced during technology-assisted SI.

The separation of light hydrocarbons,including C_(2)H_(6)and C_(3)H_(8),is essential to natural gas ***,N_(2)removal from CH_(4)is also crucial to concentrating low-quality coalbed methane,but the adsorption process is challenging because of the close kinetic *** work reports two hydrogen-bonded metal-nucleobase frameworks(HOF-ZJU-201 and HOF-ZJU202)capable of efficiently separating C_(3)H_(8)/CH_(4),C_(2)H_(6)/CH_(4),and CH_(4)/N_(2).Due to strong affinity for C_(3)H_(8)and C_(2)H_(6),the lowpressure capacity for C_(3)H_(8)(5 kPa)and C_(2)H_(6)(10 kPa)of HOF-ZJU-201a exceeds most *** ideal adsorbed solution theory(IAST)selectivity of C_(3)H_(8)/CH_(4)and C_(2)H_(6)/CH_(4)is 119 and 45 at ambient *** to density functional theory calculations,surface polarization environments formed by electron-rich anions and electron-deficient purine heterocyclic rings contribute to the selective capture of C_(3)H_(8)and C_(2)H_(6)with greater ***,the high CH_(4)adsorption capacity(1.73 mmol/g for HOF-ZJU-201a and 1.50 mmol/g for HOF-ZJU-202a at 298 K and 1.0 bar)and excellent CH_(4)/N_(2)selectivity(6.0 for HOF-ZJU-201 at 298 K),as well as dynamic breakthrough experiments of binary CH_(4)/N_(2)gas mixture implied their efficacy in the concentration of low-quality coalbed methane.
