Morphotype dependence of Globigerinoides ruber(white)and Trilobatus sacculifer Mg/Ca ratios in the western tropical Pacific:implications for reconstructing the mixed-layer depth

Planktonic foraminifer Globigerinoides ruber(white)and Trilobatus sacculifer are the most frequently used mixedlayer dwelling species for reconstructing past oceanic environments.Specifically,the Mg/Ca ratios of these two foraminiferal species have been used for reconstructing tropical/subtropical changes in sea surface temperature(SST).However,these two species have different morphotypes,of which the spatial and temporal differences in Mg/Ca ratios and their influencing factors are still unclear.Our objective is to investigate the potential differences between the Mg/Ca ratios of these different morphotypes of G.ruber(white)and T.sacculifer in the western Philippine Sea(WPS)and determine their implications for the reconstruction of SST and upper-ocean structure.Mg/Ca measurements are made on two basic morphotypes of G.ruber(white)[sensu stricto(s.s.)and sensu lato(s.l.)]and T.sacculifer[with(w)and without(w/o)a sac-like final chamber]on samples of Site MD06-3047B from the WPS.Our results reveal that Mg/Ca ratios of different G.ruber morphotypes show consistent differences;and those of T.sacculifer morphotypes show staged variations since MIS 3.It is suggested to select a single morphotype for reconstructing SST changes using the Mg/Ca ratios of G.ruber and T.sacculifer in the WPS.Furthermore,the Mg/Ca ratios between G.ruber s.***.and G.ruber s.l.[Δ(Mg/Ca)_(G.ruber s.s.-s.l.)]downcore MD06-3047B covaries with indexes of summer monsoon.Combining with the core-top results,showing regional variation of differences in theΔ(Mg/Ca)_(G.ruber s.s.-s.l.)over the western tropical Pacific,we propose thatΔ(Mg/Ca)_(G.ruber s.s.-s.l.)may tend to reflect summer mixed layer depth.

Strong preshear flow stretches poly(butene-1)chains to form flow-induced precursors of fibrillar crystals.The formation leads to further growth of shear/normal stress after the stress reaches the steady state.In this study,stress relaxation measurements are performed after intervals of a strong flow during which the precursors form.The small-angle X-ray scattering(SAXS)and wide-angle X-ray diffraction(WAXD)measurements are conducted to characterize the crystalline structure formed after the preshear and relaxation processes,each of different periods.A combination of the stress relaxation and scattering results reveal that for the precursors formed within 5 s,the stress can fully relax and the orientation of the subsequent crystals(formed upon quenching the sample at different stress levels)decays gradually with the relaxation.In comparison,for those precursors formed after 5 s,the stress hardly relaxes during~10^(4) s,and the orientation of the subsequent crystals hardly decays,suggesting that the precursors have been somehow stabilized during the shear.These features have been discussed with respect to the percolation of the precursors to form a reversible network.

Tumor-microenvironment activated programmable synergistic cancer therapy by bioresponsive rare-earth nanocomposite

Synergistic chemotherapy-photothermal therapy(CT-PTT)can improve the cancer treatment efficacy,but its treatment effect is still limited by factors such as targeting efficiency and treatment sequence.Herein,a H_(2)S-responsive metal organic frameworks(MOFs)coated rare-earth nanocomposite(csEr@-MOF)was constructed and loaded with a chemotherapeutic drug(DOX)and a heat shock protein(HSP)inhibitor(Shepherdin).As the drug-loaded csEr@MOF reaches the H_(2)S-riched colorectal tumor region,based on the reaction between H_(2)S and MOF,Shepherdin is released for inhibiting the function of HSPs,the generated CuS is used for PTT and DOX is released for CT.Through being monitored by ratiometric imaging of rare-earth nanocomposite,it is possible to perform the precise treatment timing for PTT.With the help of Shepherdin,the treatment effect of PTT was enhanced.Therefore,programmable CT-PTT synergistic cancer therapy activated by a single H_(2)S trigger is achieved in vitro and in vivo.This work provides new ideas for designing tumor microenvironment-responsive therapeutic agents for programmable synergistic therapy with better targeting and therapeutic efficiency.

Diseases caused by foodborne pathogens are one of the main burdens of public health and seriously hinder global social and economic development.In this research,a novel lateral flow strip was successfully constructed for the simultaneous detection of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria based on the fluidity and color aggregation effect of Au nanoparticles(AuNPs).The lateral flow strip first combined ampicillin(AMP)antigens with AuNPs to form AuNPs-AMP antigens as the first recognition molecule.Then vancomycin specifically recognizing Gram-positive bacteria,and aptamers specifi-cally recognizing Gram-negative bacteria were used as the second recognition molecules.Finally,Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria were detected rapidly using this sandwich mode.The strip can rapidly test the samples within 5 min.Using a lateral flow strip detector,the limit of detection was 4 CFU/mL,and the recovery rates in honey samples were 78.2-88.6%.The lateral flow strip constructed can detect foodborne pathogens quickly,accurately and e fficiently,which is of great significance for food safety detection.

The evaluation index of camouflage patterns is important in the field of military application.It is the goal that researchers have always pursued to make the computable evaluation indicators more in line with the human visual mechanism.In order to make the evaluation method more computationally intelligent,a Multi-Feature Camouflage Fused Index(MF-CFI)is proposed based on the comparison of grayscale,color and texture features between the target and the background.In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed index,eye movement experiments are conducted to compare the proposed index with existing indexes including Universal Image Quality Index(UIqi),Camouflage Similarity Index(CSI)and Structural Similarity(SSIM).Twenty-four different simulated targets are designed in a grassland background,28 observers participate in the experiment and record the eye movement data during the observation process.The results show that the highest Pearson correlation coefficient is observed between MF-CFI and the eye movement data,both in the designed digital camouflage patterns and largespot camouflage patterns.Since MF-CFI is more in line with the detection law of camouflage targets in human visual perception,the proposed index can be used for the comparison and parameter optimization of camouflage design algorithms.

Numerous polysaccharides isolated from plants have been used to augment traditional drugs in the treatment of cancer.In order to explore the influence to hepatocellular carcinoma,a novel cold water-soluble polysaccharide was separated from Rhodiola rosea L.root(RLP)and then its structure and anti-cancer activities were tested.The chemical compositions and high performance gel permeation chromatography(HPGPC)results indicated that RLP was an acid heteropolysaccharide with the molecular weight of about1.15×10~6 Da.Furthermore,ion chromatography(IC),Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)and nuclear magnetic resoance(NMR)further indicated that RLP was main composed of→2,4)-α-Rha(1→,→5)-α-L-Araf-(1→,α-D-Glu,→6)-β-D-Galp-(1→,β-D-Man and→4)-α-GalpA-(1→.In vivo antitumor activities of RLP were carried out by using H22 tumor-bearing mice model.The results shown that RLP(100 and 300 mg/kg)could inhibit tumor growth of H22 cells from 23.59%to 45.52%and protect thymuses and spleen without damage.In addition,according to cell cycle,AV-FITC/PI and JC-1,RLP could induce dose-dependent apopto sis of H22 cells via S phase arrested which was through a mitochondrial related pathway.Our data indicated that RLP has a broader application prospect in anti-tumor preparations.

The classical source-to-trap petroleum system concept only considers the migration and accumulation of conventional oil and gas in traps driven dominantly by buoyance in a basin,although revised and improved,even some new concepts as composite petroleum system,total petroleum system,total composite petroleum system,were proposed,but they do not account for the vast unconventional oil and gas reservoirs within the system,which is not formed and distributed in traps dominantly by buoyancedriven.Therefore,the petroleum system concept is no longer adequate in dealing with all the oil and gas accumulations in a basin where significant amount of the unconventional oil and gas resources are present in addition to the conventional oil and gas accumulations.This paper looked into and analyzed the distribution characteristics of conventional and unconventional oil/gas reservoirs and their differences and correlations in petroliferous basins in China and North America,and then proposed whole petroleum system(WPS)concept,the WPS is defined as a natural system that encompasses all the conventional and unconventional oil and gas,reservoirs and resources originated from organic matter in source rocks,the geological elements and processes involving the formation,evolution,and distribution of these oil and gas,reservoirs and resources.It is found in the WPS that there are three kinds of hydrocarbons dynamic fields,three kinds of original hydrocarbons,three kinds of reservoir rocks,and the coupling of these three essential elements lead to the basic ordered distribution model of shale oil/gas reservoirs contacting or interbeded with tight oil/gas reservoirs and separated conventional oil/gas reservoirs from source rocks upward,which is expressed as“S\T-C”.Abnormal conditions lead to other three special ordered distribution models:The first is that with shale oil/gas reservoirs separated from tight oil/gas reservoirs.The second is that with two direction ordered distributions from source upward and downward.The third is with latera

Chaperone-mediated autophagy is one of three types of autophagy and is characterized by the selective degradation of proteins. Chaperone-mediated autophagy contributes to energy balance and helps maintain cellular homeostasis, while providing nutrients and support for cell survival. Chaperone-mediated autophagy activity can be detected in almost all cells, including neurons. Owing to the extreme sensitivity of neurons to their environmental changes, maintaining neuronal homeostasis is critical for neuronal growth and survival. Chaperone-mediated autophagy dysfunction is closely related to central nervous system diseases. It has been shown that neuronal damage and cell death are accompanied by chaperone-mediated autophagy dysfunction. Under certain conditions, regulation of chaperone-mediated autophagy activity attenuates neurotoxicity. In this paper, we review the changes in chaperone-mediated autophagy in neurodegenerative diseases, brain injury, glioma, and autoimmune diseases. We also summarize the most recent research progress on chaperone-mediated autophagy regulation and discuss the potential of chaperone-mediated autophagy as a therapeutic target for central nervous system diseases.
