High dimensional proteomic mapping of bone marrow immune characteristics in immune thrombocytopenia

To investigate the role of co-stimulatory and co-inhibitory molecules on immune tolerance in immune thrombocytopenia(ITP),this study mapped the immune cell heterogeneity in the bone marrow of ITP at the single-cell level using Cytometry by Time of Flight(CyTOF).Thirtysix patients with ITP and nine healthy volunteers were enrolled in the *** soluble immunomodulatory molecules,more sCD25 and sGalectin-9 were detected in ITP *** the cell surface,co-stimulatory molecules like ICOS and HVEM were observed to be upregulated in mainly central memory and effector T *** contrast,co-inhibitory molecules such as CTLA-4 were significantly reduced in Th1 and Th17 cell *** a platelet count of 30×10^(9)L^(−1)as the cutoff value,ITP patients with high and low platelet counts showed different T cell immune ***-presenting cells such as monocytes and B cells may regulate the activation of T cells through CTLA-4/CD86 and HVEM/BTLA interactions,respectively,and participate in the pathogenesis of *** conclusion,the proteomic and soluble molecular profiles brought insight into the interaction and modulation of immune cells in the bone marrow of *** may offer novel targets to develop personalized immunotherapies.

POLY(MALEIC ANHYDRIDE-CO-ACRYLIC ACID)/POLY(ETHYLENE GLYCOL)HYDROGELS WITH pH- AND IONIC-STRENGTH-RESPONSES

Poly（maleic anhydride-coacrylic acid）,P（MA-AA）,was synthesized by the free-radical copolymerization of maleic anhydride with acrylic acid,and fast responsive pH-sensitive poly（maleic anhydride-co-acrylic acid）/polyethylene glycol,P（MA-AA）/PEG,hydrogels were prepared using PEG as macromolecular cross-linking ***-IR and ~1H-NMR spectrometry were applied to characterize the structure of P（MA-AA）.The influences of pH and ionic strength on the swelling behavior of P（MA-AA）/PEG hydrogels and the swelling-deswelling changes along with the repeated changes between acid and alkali conditions were *** results showed that there was a hundredfold difference in the swelling ratios between the conditions of acid and alkali,and the swelling capability could not be weakened after multiple swelling-deswelling *** results of swelling kinetics demonstrated that the response rate of P（MA-AA）/PEG hydrogels was very fast,because the swelling transition points always occurred at 10 *** pH-responsive hydrogels reported here might be a smart material for potentially applications in many areas,including biosensors,drug-delivery devices and tissue engineering.

Multi-wavelength sampled Bragg grating quantum cascade laser arrays

A multi-wavelength sampled Bragg grating(SBG) quantum cascade laser array operating between 7.32 and7.85 μm is reported. The sampling grating structure, which can be analyzed as a conventional grating multiplied by a sampling function, is fabricated by holographic exposure combined with optical photolithography. The sampling grating period was varied from 8 to 32 μm, and different sampling order(-1 st,-2 nd, and-3 rd order)modes were achieved. We propose that higher-order modes with optimized duty cycles can be used to take full advantage of the gain curve and improve the wavelength coverage of the SBG array, which will be beneficial to many applications.

Building surface defects by doping with transition metal on ultrafine TiO_2 to enhance the photocatalytic H_2 production activity

Inefficient charge separation and limited light absorption are two critical issues associated with high‐efficiency photocatalytic H2production using *** defects within a certain concentration range in photocatalyst materials are beneficial for photocatalytic *** this study,surface defects(oxygen vacancies and metal cation replacement defects)were induced with a facile and effective approach by surface doping with low‐cost transition metals(Co,Ni,Cu,and Mn)on ultrafine *** obtained surface‐defective TiO2exhibited a3–4‐fold improved activity compared to that of the original ultrafine *** addition,a H2production rate of3.4μmol/h was obtained using visible light(λ>420nm)*** apparent quantum yield(AQY)at365nm reached36.9%over TiO2‐Cu,significantly more than the commercial *** enhancement of photocatalytic H2production activity can be attributed to improved rapid charge separation efficiency andexpanded light absorption *** hydrothermal treatment with transition metal was proven to be a very facile and effective method for obtaining surface defects.

Stable single-mode operation of a distributed feedback quantum cascade laser integrated with a distributed Bragg reflector

We report an index-coupled distributed feedback quantum cascade laser by employing an equivalent phase shift(EPS) of quarter-wave integrated with a distributed Bragg reflector(DBR) at λ~5.03 μm. The EPS is fabricated through extending one sampling period by 50% in the center of a sampled Bragg grating. The key EPS and DBR pattern are fabricated by conventional holographic exposure combined with the optical photolithography technology, which leads to improved flexibility, repeatability, and cost-effectiveness. Stable single-mode emission can be obtained by changing the injection current or heat sink temperature even under the condition of large driving pulse width.

Effects of Molecular Weight on the Crystallization and Melting Behaviors of Poly(L-lactide)

In this study, a series of monodispersed poly（L-lactide）（PLLA） were synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization with Schiff base aluminum catalyst, and the effects of the number-average molecular weight（Mn） on the crystallization and melting behaviors of PLLA were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry（DSC） and wide-angle X-ray diffraction（WAXD）. The total crystallization rate of PLLA was Mn-dependent, which reached the maximum value for PLLA with Mn of 18.6 kg/mol. In addition, when Mn of PLLA was 18.6 kg/mol, the melting enthalpy（ΔHm） showed a maximum value（87.1 J/g）, which was the highest reported value till now. The critical temperature for change of crystal formation from ？-form to ？-form crystals increased in the isothermal crystallization process with Mn increasing. In the reheating procedure, high-Mn PLLA demonstrated a small exothermal peak prior to the dominant melting peak, corresponding to crystal transition from ？- to ？-form, but low-Mn PLLA didn＇t show the peak of crystal transition. These different crystallization and melting behaviors were attributed to the different chain mobility of PLLA with different Mn.

The normal fabrication process for electronic and optoelectronic devices can bring in significant modifications on two-dimensional(2D)semiconductors’intrinsic *** address this issue,some dry methods have been developed,such as“transfer contact”method and“shadow mask technology”.However,the method that can combine the advantages of low cost,non-destruction,and high reliability at sub-micrometer scale is rarely ***,we demonstrate a fabrication technique using ultrafine quartz fibers as shadow *** this technique,sub-micrometer scale devices can be“all dry”fabricated facilely,and the intrinsic properties of 2D semiconductors are ***,the masking effect can be evaluated in situ based on the light interference between the quartz fiber and the substrate to increase the fabrication reliability.

Broad gain,continuous-wave operation of InP-based quantum cascade laser atλ~11.8μm

We demonstrate a broad gain,continuous-wave(CW)operation InP-based quantum cascade laser(QCL)emitting at 11.8μm with a modified dual-upper-state(DAU)and diagonal transition active region design.A 3 mm cavity length,16.5μm average ridge wide QCL with high-reflection(HR)coatings demonstrates a maximum peak power of 1.07 W at 283 K and CW output power of 60 m W at 293 *** device also shows a broad and dual-frequency lasing spectrum in pulsed mode and a maximum average power of 258.6 mW at 283 ***,the full width at half maximum(FWHM)of the electroluminescent spectrum measured at subthreshold current is 2.37μm,which indicates a broad gain spectrum of the *** tuning range of 1.38μm is obtained by a grating-coupled external cavity(EC)Littrow configuration,which is beneficial for gas detection.

Chirped coupled ridge waveguide quantum cascade laser arrays with stable single-lobe far-field patterns

Power scaling in a broad area quantum cascade laser(QCL) tends to deteriorate beam quality with the emission of a multiple-lobe far-field pattern. In this paper, we demonstrate a coupled ridge waveguide QCL array consisting of five elements with chirped geometry. In-phase mode operation is secured by managing supermode loss with properly designed geometries of ridges. A single-lobe lateral far-field with a near diffraction limited beam pattern was obtained in the whole current dynamic range. The devices were fabricated with the wet and dry etching method. The regrowth technique of the In P:Fe insulation layer and In P:Si waveguide layer was *** a structure has the potential to optimize the beam quality of the recently reported high-power broad-area QCL with a reduced cascade number.

Chemical Modification and Fluorescence Spectrum of Tryptophan Residues in Pullulanase

Tryptophan（Trp） residues in a pullulanase were modified by N-bromosuccinimide（NBS）. The results of the Spande method indicate that there are 18 Trp residues in the pullulanase and nine of them are located on the surface af the enzyme. Three of these Trp residues are nonessential residues which show the fastest reaction rate according to the Zou＇s plot. Two of the seven relative faster reacting residues are essential for the activity of the enzyme. The other eight are the slowest in the reaction rate or non-reactive residues for the reaction. The fluorescence and circular dichroism（CD） spectra of the pullulanase have been changed after the reaction with NBS. Potassium iodide（KI） and acrylamide also have remarkable influences on the fluorescence spectra of the pullulanase.
