Efficient Heuristic Based Methods for Two-Stage Transshipment Problem

In this article, we propose efficient methods for solving two stage transshipment problems. Transshipment problem is the special case of Minimum cost flow problem in which arc capacities are infinite. We start by proposing a novel problem formulation for a two stage transshipment problem. Later, special structure of our problem formulation is utilized to devise two dual based heuristics solutions with computational complexity of O (n2), and O (n3) respectively. These methods are motivated by the methods developed by Sharma and Saxena [1], sinha and Sharma [2]. Our methods differ in the initialization and the subsequent variation of the dual variables associated with the transshipment nodes along the shortest path. Lastly, a method is proposed to extract a very good primal solution from the given dual solutions with a computational complexity of O (n2). Efficacy of these methods is demonstrated by our numerical analysis on 200 random problems.

In this article, we propose novel reformulations for capacitated lot sizing problem. These reformulations are the result of reducing the number of variables (by eliminating the backorder variable) or increasing the number of constraints (time capacity constraints) in the standard problem formulation. These reformulations are expected to reduce the computational time complexity of the problem. Their computational efficiency is evaluated later in this article through numerical analysis on randomly generated problems.

BACKGROUND Open ureteric reimplantation by cross trigonal technique described by Cohen is considered a common surgical option for correction of vesicoureteral reflux(VUR). There is a lack of evidence in literature though for what happens to such kidneys, in the long run, particularly those which are poorly *** To assess the long-term outcomes of ureteric reimplantation in poorly functioning kidneys in children with unilateral primary *** Children with unilateral primary VUR and a relative renal function of less than 35% who underwent open or laparoscopic ureteric reimplantation between January 2005 and January 2017 were included in the study. Patients who had a follow up of less than five years were excluded. Preoperative evaluation consisted of a voiding cystourethrogram and Dimercaptosuccinic acid(DMSA) scan. In the follow-up period, patients underwent a diuretic scan at 6 weeks and 6 *** up ultrasound was done for change in grade of hydronephrosis and retrovesical ureteric diameter. Subsequent follow up was done at 6 monthly intervals with evaluation for proteinuria and hypertension and any recurrent urinary tract infection(UTI). For assessment of cortical function, DMSA was repeated annually for 5 years after surgery. A paired-samples t-test was used to test the mean difference of DMSA between pre-post *** During this period, 36 children underwent ureteric reimplantation for unilateral primary VUR. After excluding those with insufficient follow-up, 31 were included in the analysis. Most of the patients were males(n = 26/31, 83.8%). Patient’s age(mean ± SD, range) was 5.21 ± 3.71, 1-18 years. The grades of VUR were grade Ⅱ(1patient), grade Ⅲ(8 patients), grade Ⅳ(10 patients), and grade Ⅴ(12 patients). The pre and postoperative DMSA was 24.064 ± 12.02 and 24.06 ± 10.93, which was almost the same(statistically equal, paired-samples t-test: P = 0.873). Experiments and computations were performed over an ogive-cylinder body having an lift-to-drag ratio of 16 at a diameter Reynolds number of 29000. The side force on the slender body augments with increasing angles of attack for the case without a ring. This increase was mainly due to the increase in the asymmetry of the existing vortex pair in the wake of the body. Attempts were made to completely reduce the existing side force at the angle of attack ranging from 35° to 45°.Three rectangular cross-sectioned circumferential rings having a height of 3% of the local diameter were placed at axial distances of 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 times the base diameter from the tip of the body so as to reduce the side force. The results obtained indicate that inclusion of three rings completely alleviated the side force on the slender body at the angle of attack ranging from 0° to 45°. The presence of rings was found to alter the growth of the vortices that helped in the reduction of the side force. Computations performed were in reasonable agreement with the experiments.

Background COVID-19,caused by SARS-CoV-2,is a global pandemic that has been an immense burden on healthcare systems all over the *** patients may be at higher risk for acute ischaemic stroke(AIS).We present our experience with AIS in patients with *** We reviewed all patients admitted to our hospital during a 6-week period with a positive nasopharyngeal swab test for *** these patients,we identified *** reviewed the demographics,clinical,laboratory,imaging characteristics,treatments received and outcomes of AIS in patients with *** We identified 683 patients admitted with COVID-19 during the study period,of which 20 patients had ***-vessel occlusion(LVO)was noted in 11 patients(55%).Intravenous alteplase was administered in four patients(20%)and mechanical thrombectomy was performed in five patients(25%).Respiratory symptoms preceded the onset of AIS in most of the patients(70%)by 1 to 21 *** in patients with AIS was 50%compared with 26%of all COVID-19 *** of these patients died due to non-neurological causes(70%).Three patients with AIS had clinical and imaging findings consistent with COVID-19,but were negative for multiple nasopharyngeal swab *** LVO was more common in patients with AIS and *** had more severe disease and higher mortality *** of the patients had respiratory symptoms preceding AIS by days to *** could explain certain patients with clinical picture of COVID-19 but negative nasopharyngeal swab tests.
