Systematic Assessment of Synthesized Tri-magnesium Phosphate Powders(Amorphous,Semi-crystalline and Crystalline) and Cements for Ceramic Bone Cement Applications

Magnesium phosphate cements have come under investigation in recent years for use as an alternative to calcium phosphate cements for bone void repair *** indicates that magnesium phosphate cements obtain higher initial strengths after cement reaction and resorption in more clinically appropriate time frames than commercially available calcium phosphate *** this study,amorphous,partially amorphous and crystalline tri-magnesium phosphate powders were synthesized via an aqueous precipitation reaction with subsequent thermal treatment,and characterized using techniques such as X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared *** materials were assessed for their functionality in cementing reaction with a 3.0 mol/L,pH 7.0 ammonium phosphate solution,including setting time and pH evolution in phosphate buffered saline *** indicated that the amorphous and semi-crystalline tri-magnesium phosphate powders were highly reactive with the setting solution but resulted in mechanically weak cements,while the crystalline tri-magnesium phosphate powder reacted efficiently with the cement solution and were mechanically strong following the cement reaction.X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analyses indicated significant changes in the phase composition and morphology of the cements following incubation in phosphate buffered *** were perceived to be detrimental to the integrity of the amorphous and semi-crystalline tri-magnesium phosphate derived cements but not to those created with fully crystalline tri-magnesium *** crystalline tri-magnesium phosphate material resulted in the most functional cement as this embodiment displayed the most clinically relevant setting time as well as the highest mechanical resilience and neutral pH during incubation in saline solution rendering them potentially viable as bone void fillers.

Water-soluble-template-derived nanoscale silicon nano- flake and nano-rod morphologies： Stable architectures for lithium-ion battery anodes

Earth abundant and economical rock salt （naC1） particles of different sizes （〈3 μm and 5-20 μm） prepared by high energy mechanical milling were used as water-soluble templates for generation of Si with novel nanoscale architectures via low pressure chemical vapor deposition （LPCVD）. Si nanoflakes （SinF） comprising largely amorphous Si （a-Si） with a small volume fraction of nanocrystalline Si （nc-Si）, and Si nanorods （SinR） composed of a larger volume fraction of crystalline Si （c-Si） and a small volume fraction of a-Si resulted from modification of the naCI crystals. SinF yielded first-cycle discharge and charge capacities of -2,830 and 2,175 mAh.g-1, respective134 at a current rate of 50 mA.g-1 with a first-cycle irreversible loss （FIR loss） of -15%-20%. SinR displayed first-cycle discharge and charge capacities of -2,980 and -2,500 mAh-g-1, respectively, at a current rate of 50 mA-g-1 with an FIR loss of -12%-15%. However, at a current rate of 1 A.g-1, SinF exhibited a stable discharge capacity of -810 mAh-g-1 at the end of 250 cycles with a fade rate of -0.11% loss per cycle, while SinR showed a stable specific discharge capacity of -740 mAh.g-1 with a fade rate of -0.23% loss per cycle. The morphology of the nanostructures and compositions of the different phases/phase of Si influence the performance of SinF and SInK, making them attractive anodes for lithium-ion batteries.

A rapid solid-state synthesis of electrochemically active Chevrel phases （Mo6T8; T = S, Se） for rechargeable magnesium batteries

High energy mechanical milling （HEMM） of a stoichiometric mixture of molybdenum and metal chalcogenides （CuT and MOT2; T = S, Se） followed by heat treatment at elevated temperatures was successfully applied to synthesize Chevrel phases （Cu2Mo6T8; T = S, Se） as positive electrodes for rechargeable magnesium batteries. Differential scanning calorimetry （DSC）, thermogravimetric analyses （TGA）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, and scanning electron microscopy （SEM） were used to understand the phase formation following milling and heat treatment. CuS and Mo were observed to react at 714-800 K and formed an intermediate ternary Chevrel phase （Cu1.83Mo3S4）, which further reacted with residual Mo and MoS2 to form the desired Cu2MosSs. Quantitative XRD analysis shows the formation of a -96%-98% Chevrel phase at 30 min following the milling and heat treatment. The electrochemical performance of de-cuprated Mo6S8 and Mo6Ses phases were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry （CV）, galvanostatic cycling, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS）. The results of the CV and galvanostatic cycling data showed the expected anodic/cathodic behavior and a stable capacity after the first cycle with the formation of MgxMo6T8 （T = S, Se; 1 ≤ x 〈 2）. EIS at -0.1 V intervals for the Mo6Ss electrode during the first and second cycle shows that partial Mg-ion trapping resulted in an increase in charge transfer resistance Re. In contrast, the interfacial resistance Ri remained constant, and no significant trapping was evident during the galvanostatic cycling of the Mo6,Se8 electrode. Importantly, the ease of preparation, stable capacity, high Coulombic efficient35 and excellent rate capabilities render HEMM a viable route to laboratory-scale production of Chevrel phases for use as positive electrodes for rechargeable magnesium batteries.

Pr(Ⅲ) and nd(Ⅲ) Absorption Spectroscopic Probe to Investigate Interaction with Lysozyme (HEW)

Pr（ Ⅲ ） and nd（ Ⅲ ） can be utilized as absorption spectroscopic probes to investigate the interaction of biomolecules like Lysozyme （HEW） with Ca（ Ⅱ ） in-vitro ; the most abundant metal ion in the human body system. The spectroscopic techniques involving comparative absorption, absorption difference, and quantitative intensity analysis using 4f-4f transitions are utilized for changes in the inner sphere coordination pattern of Pr（ Ⅲ ） and nd（Ⅲ ） in solution as well as in solid state. The present study deals with an important biomolecule in human metabolism, that is, Lysozyme （HEW）. The absorption er-Condon the probab spectral parameters such as the oscillator strength （P）, the Judd-Ofelt （Tλ） intensity parameters, and the Slatinter electronic parameters are calculated using chi square methods. The obtained results are used to determine le geometry of the complex in the solution, the nature of the bond between Pr（Ⅲ）/nd（Ⅲ） with lysozyme, and the inner sphere coordination environment of f-f transitions. The results obtained from various experimental conditions are utilized to investigate the coordination changes in the Pr（Ⅲ）/nd（Ⅲ） complexes caused by different coordinating sites of lysozyme, normalized bite, denticity, the solvent nature, the coordination number, the nature of bond and other parameters to mimic the interaction of the Ca（ Ⅱ ） ion with such biomolecule.

Eu(Ⅲ) Indirect Probe to Investigate Interaction of DOPA (3,4,Di-Hydroxyphenylalanine) and Dopamine (3,4-Dihydroxy Phenyl Ethyl Amine) Using Electrochemical Methods

Eu（ Ⅲ ） can be utilized as an indirect electrochemical probe to investigate the interaction of bio-molecules such as DOPA and Dopamine with Ca（ Ⅱ ） in vitro. The interaction of DOPA and Dopamine with Eu（ Ⅲ ）-Eu（ Ⅱ ） redox pair was investigated by electrochemical techniques. Both the neurotransmitters are structurally related and undergo interaction with Eu （Ⅲ ）. Eu （ Ⅲ ） coordinates with DOPA and Dopamine through five-member chelate tings via carboxylic oxygen and amino nitrogen. The electrode kinetic parameters viz, transfer coefficient （αna）, diffusion coefficient （D）, forward heterogeneous rate constant （ k^0 fh） were evaluated for Eu（ Ⅲ ）-DOPA/Eu（ Ⅲ ）-Dopamine. The results obtained were used to investigate the nature of interaction of Eu （Ⅲ） with muhi-donor biomolecules. The possible mechanism was also proposed.

Filtration of sodium chloride from seawater using carbon hollow tube composed of carbon nanotubes

The present article deals with filtration of seawater to remove sodium chloride(naCl)using filter made from organized structures of carbon nanotubes(CnTs).The filter consists of hollow carbon cylinder(length~10 cm,diameter~1 cm),which is composed of radially aligned *** carbon hollow cylinder has been synthesized by continuous spray pyrolysis of ferrocene–benzene solution in argon *** hollow cylinder has been turned into a water filter by closing one end and keeping a small funnel at the *** of seawater(Marina Beach,Chennai,India)has been obtained both under the self pressure of seawater column in the hollow cylinder and under the difference of pressure created by enclosing the filter in a vacuum tight *** has been found that the efficiency of filtration is about two times higher under partial vacuum(~10–2 torr)created on the filtrate(water)*** filtration of seawater,a deposit in the inner surface of hollow cylinder has been *** deposit has been characterized by X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis,and it has been found that the deposit was *** filtration leads to almost complete removal of naCl from the seawater.

Rift-associated ultramafic lamprophyre(damtjernite) from the middle part of the Lower Cretaceous(125 Ma) succession of Kutch,northwestern India: Tectonomagmatic implications

Mineralogical,geochemical and isotopic(Sr and nd) studies on the recently reported ca. 124 Ma'anorogenic lamproite' dyke from the Palanpur area, Kutch seismogenic rift zone, northwestern India, are presented. We propose a new classification for the dyke as a damtjernite(ultramafic lamprophyre; UML)based on its porphyritic-panidiomorphic texture, abundance of phlogopite, presence of nepheline in the groundmass, and the composition of liquidus phases such as olivine, phlogopite, magnetite, and clinopyroxene(diopside). The Palanpur UML is primitive(Mg# =74-77),silica-undersaturated(SiO_2n nature, and is strikingly similar to the ～69 Ma UML dykes and sills of the Tethyan Indus suture zone, which are considered as the earliest yet known manifestations of the Deccan Large Igneous Province(LIP). Bulk-rock(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)_i(0.70460-0.70461) and ε_(n)d(t)(+2.56 to-0.69) of the Palanpur UML signify derivation from a slightly depleted mantle source similar to that of asthenospheric magmas such as OIB. This is further attested to by the high incompatible trace element ratios(viz., La/Ba, nb/U, nb/La and Ta/Yb) that are typical of plume-type magmas. However, the neoproterozoic T_(DM) depleted mantle nd model ages( ～655-919 Ma) also necessitate some involvement of a lithospheric mantle component in its genesis. High bulk-rock Fe_2 O_3~t and TiO_2 contents require the involvement of a fertile peridotitic mantle source, whereas high La/Yb(60-80) implies a control by residual garnet. Higher Rb/Sr and lower Ba/Rb suggest phlogopite as a residual phase and high nb and lower La/Sm favour carbonatite, rather than silicate melt as metasomatising agent. Low degrees of partial melting of a primitive garnet lherzolite mantle can account for the observed REE patterns in the Palanpur UML. The Palanpur UML shares a temporal similarity to the Kerguelen plume-derived Rajmahal basalts and associated alkaline rocks from the eastern India. The tectonomagmatic
