This study is an extension of the previous work done with ARS-680 Environmental Chamber. Drying is a complex operation that demands much energy and time. Drying is essentially important for preservation of ginger rhizome. Drying of ginger was modeled, and then the effective diffusion coefficient and activation energy were determined. For this purpose, the experiments were done at six levels of varied temperatures: 10°C, 20°C, 30°C, 40°C, 50°C and 60°C. The values of effective diffusion coefficients obtained in this work for the variously treated ginger rhizomes closely agreed with the average effective diffusion coefficients of other notable authors who determined the drying kinetics and convective heat transfer coefficients of ginger slices.

For about a quarter of a century,monitoring lactate levels and/or lactate clearance has been an unquestionable cornerstone in sepsis *** elevated lactate level appeared to be an independent predictor of mortality,and the consequent metabolic acidosis was thought to explain a number of pathophysiological changes seen in septic *** physiological and clinical findings seem to challenge the adverse role of lactic acidosis in *** suggests that lactate levels are not necessarily directly proportional to either tissue or cellular hypoxia,and conversely,despite high lactate levels,increased peripheral tissue oxygen pressure can be measured in adult patients with septic *** to the most recent understanding of in vitro and in vivo evidence,the elevated lactate level in sepsis might be a normal reaction due to adrenergic stress with potential beneficial/protective physiological effects,as *** the one hand,burning lactic may help fuel the body during critical illness,but on the other hand,with a slight drop in pH,the body may counteract certain deleterious changes during the dysregulated host response;reduce the chances of reperfusion myocardial injury,and improve tissue oxygenation by shifting the haemoglobin dissociation curve to the *** the pathophysiological process in sepsis resulting in elevated lactate levels may aid management in an emergency,medicine,and intensive care *** more in-depth physiological knowledge,physicians may inevitably surpass normalisation heuristics and deliver personalized rather than protocolised sepsis resuscitation.

This paper presents the control of the active filter by Duty Cycle Modulation (DCM) for the harmonic pollution control of a three-phase electrical system. Several research works have preceded this work, but most of them deal with the control by pulse-width modulation and the differences lie around the THD reduction performance, the quality of the wave obtained, the simplicity of the scheme and the cost of the control. For this purpose, we propose a very innovative approach to active filter control which aims at reducing the current THD at a lower rate than pulse-width modulation techniques improving at the same time the wave quality with a more simplified control scheme. First we present the schematic diagram of the active filter, then we present the design of the control of this active filter based on the real and imaginary instantaneous power method which uses the algebraic “Clark” transformation. The Duty Cycle Modulation controller is used to obtain the required control commands to be injected to the inverter. We then developed a simulink model of the active filter to validate this study. The simulations were performed in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The results obtained show a significant improvement on the harmonic current control techniques for the THD of 1.02% which was 26.25%, the elimination of noise in the signal and the simplicity of the control with an easier implementation than the pulse width modulation (PWM) make the Duty Cycle Modulation (DCM) control a very promising tool.

Hamaker coefficient approach was used as a surface thermodynamic tool in determining the HIV- blood interactions in the antiretroviral drug environment. The methodology involved the absorbance measurement using a digital Ultraviolet Visible MetaSpecAE1405031Pro Spectrophotometer of blood samples collected from ten HIV infected persons who had not commenced treatment with antiretroviral drugs (No ARV), ten HIV infected persons who had already commenced treatment with antiretroviral drugs (with ARV) and ten blood samples of uninfected persons all in each of five different antiretroviral drugs environment. The variables required for the computations with the Lifshiftz formula in the determination of Hamaker constants/coefficients were derived from the absorbance data. The values of the various Hamaker coefficients for each antiretroviral drug on both infected and uninfected blood samples were calculated. MATLAB software tools were employed in the computations. The absolute values for the combined Hamaker coefficient for the drugs ranged from -0.02481 × 10-21 Joule for drug 4 to -0.05845 × 10-21 Joule for drug 3. The negative senses of the absolute combined Hamaker coefficient imply net negative van der Waals forces indicating a possible repulsion between HIV and drug coated lymphocyte cells. For the virus interacting with blood samples not coated with the drugs, the Hamaker coefficients are positive indicating the vulnerability of the lymphocytes in the absence of the drugs. This effect suggests effective coating or binding of the lymphocytes with the drugs is needed for possible blocking of the virus from the surface of the lymphocyte cell. A thermodynamic criterion for HIV-drug interaction prediction was suggested and found to be a valuable tool in HIV-blood interaction study. The use of the findings of this work by pharmaceutical industries may be possible in the area of drug design.

The study of physicochemical and biological parameters can assess the trend of a lake’s trophic state. A trophic state index (TSI) was used to assess eutrophication of LakeAmvrakia. Total phosphorus and chlorophyll concentrations that recorded were generally at the same level with those recorded in previous years, a fact which indicates that lake’s trophic state did not change. But in the past ten years, agricultural uses have been modified by almost 25% of the catchment area, because of the major reduction of tobacco cultivation. One year of monthly monitoring, in nine sampling stations can report this result. Even if the catchment is small and the agricultural areas are the 47% of the basin, the water quality of the lake did not change. The trophic state is stable probably because the lake is deep monomictic, and seasonally anoxic. For this reason internal phosphorus contribution is very important in the deep hypolimnion.

The complexes of biogenic metals (Zn2+,Cu2+,Co2+,Mn3+,Fe3+) based on meso-tetra(3,5-diisobor- nyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin 1 were synthesized. The electrochemical behavior of these com-pounds was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and rotating disk electrode (RDE) techniques. The antioxidant activity of complexes was estimated by means of the electrochemical assay based on the hydrogen atom transfer reaction to the stable radical 2,2’-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The RDE method was applied for this process monitoring. It was shown that the efficiency of the metal complexes (Cu2+,Co2+,Mn2+,Ni2+,Fe3+) is practically the same order as that of free base porphyrin 1. However the Zn2+ complex demonstrates significantly higher antioxidant activity, and the stoichiometry of the reaction was determined as σ = 4. The results demonstrate that porphyrin macrocycle can directly affect the antioxidant properties of 2,6-diisobornylphenol.
