Acid rain (AR) has been reported to induce stress in plants affecting its productivity, growth, flowering and physiology. The molecular changes induced in plants due to the effect of acid rain or acid induced orientation or chloroplast streaming remains largely unknown. Therefore, in the current study we report for the first time the static and permanent changes in the cell of the medicinal plant Bacopa monnieri L. due to sulphur-simulated acid rain (S-SiAR). AR induced effects witnessed by the reduction of the size of starch granules and chloroplast, amount of the granules per unit area, dissolving cell walls, breaking the normal fiber, salt-induced strain in the various components of the cell. Effect of starch granule and chloroplast due to S-SiAR was analyzed using light, confocal and scanning electron microscopic techniques. The elements viz. potassium and magnesium present in the chloroplasts reveal acidic pH due to effect of S-SiAR observed by the ionization of Mg and K (to Mg2+ and K+), in which K+ induced by the effects of S-SiAR revealed a net negative Nernst potential of about -87.55 mV. Calcium is mainly present on the cell walls and responsible for binding of starch granules become ionized to Ca2+ on interacting with AR indicated by the altered Nernst potential of +137.04 mV. A net potential difference may cause the above streaming of chloroplast towards the large starch granules. From this study, we report AR-induced physiological changes in medicinal plant Bacopa monnieri L. for the first time.

In this paper, we present classical molecular dynamics （MD） simulations of model polymer/CNT composites constructed by embedding a single wall （10,10） CNT into two different amorphous polymer matrices： poly（methyl methacrylate） and poly{（m-phenylene-vinylene）-co- [（2,5-dioctoxy-p-phenylene） vinylene]}, respectively, with different volume fractions. The simulation results support the idea that it is possible to use CNTs to mechanically reinforce an appropri- ate polymer matrix, especially in the longitudinal direction of the nanotube. The comparison of the simulation results with the macroscopic rule-of-mixtures for composite systems showed that for strong interfacial interactions, there can be large deviations of the results from the rule-of- mixtures. In order to verify this study, results obtained have been compared with those given by Elliott and Han （2007）.

Remote Sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) are now very essential tools for efficient planning and management and handling a range of data simultaneously in a time- and cost-efficient manner for targeting of groundwater, which assists in measuring, monitoring, and conserving groundwater resources. Survey of India toposheets, LISS-III and CARTOSAT DEM satellite imageries are used to prepare various thematic layers viz., geology, slope, lineament, drainage, and geomorphology, and were transformed to raster data using feature to raster conversion tool in ArcGIS spatial analysis, then we reclassify each raster map using reclassify tools. By using weight overlay analysis, each weighted thematic layer is statistically computed to get the ground water potential zones. Then, five different groundwater potential zones were identified, namely “very good”, “good”, “moderate”, “poor”, and “very poor”. The villages under poor groundwater potential zone and the villages under very good groundwater potential zone are finding out. The above study has clearly demonstrated the capabilities of Remote Sensing and GIS in demarcation of the different groundwater potential zones in hard rock terrain.

Mechanical systems are characterized through accurate measurement of damping. System damping is related to total energy dissipated within the structure i. e., energy dissipated at the joint, fasteners and interphase in addition to energy dissipated due to the material. In this paper a mathematical model had been developed by combing the four parameter viscoelastic model and bridging model. This model has the capability to predict the loss factor of lamina and with any combination of materials provided the material loss factor of constituent elements are known. Effect of frequency on four loss factors namely longitudinal, transverse, transverse shear and longitudinal shear loss factor of Glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) has been obtained by using this developed model. Results obtained by this model are validated experimently using Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA). Further effect of frequency (1-100 Hz) on longitudinal, longitudinal shear, transverse and transverse shear loss factors has been measured. Variation of strain amplitude on longitudinal and transverse loss factors has also been measured. Effect of strain variation has been evaluated at different frequency. Effect of fiber angle on damping has been measured. Loss factors increases with increase of strain and strain amplitude.

Maternal dystocia in cows and buffaloes: A Review

The maternal causes of dystocia in cattle and buffaloes are analyzed. Uterine torsion appears to be the most frequent maternal cause of dys-tocia in buffaloes whereas improper cervical dilation appears to be more frequent maternal cause of dystocia in cattle. Failure of uterine expulsive forces (Uterine Inertia) and neo-plasm’s of vagina, vulva and uterus are com-monly seen in cows and buffaloes. The various maternal causes of dystocia in cattle and buf-faloes and their management are described.

Successful treatment of most of the diseases is limited by a lack of safe and effective methods of drug delivery. Drug delivery methods have significant effects on the pharmacological efficacy of a drug. Every drug has an optimum concentration range within which maximum benefit is derived;and concentrations above or below the range can be toxic or provide no therapeutic benefits at all. Therefore, development of an efficient drug delivery system remains an important challenge in medicine, and this can be achieved only through multidisciplinary approaches to the mechanisms of delivery of drugs to targets in tissues. Thus, several drug delivery and drug targeting systems are currently being developed. Targeting is an ability to direct the drug(s) to the desired site. There are two major mechanisms, viz., active and passive for drug targeting. Controlled drug release and subsequent biodegradation are also indispensable for developing successful formulations. Colloidal drug vehicles such as micelles, vesicles, liquid crystal dispersions, and nanomaterials consisting of miniscule nanoparticles of 5 - 200 nm diameter have shown great promise as drug delivery systems. In this context, past decades have witnessed certain major advancements. This review article emphasizes on these advances in the field of drug delivery systems.

Antimicrobial proteins/peptides are becoming a new generation of immunostimulants for prevention and disease control in human and animals,including aquatic *** the haemolymph of horseshoe crabs(Tachypleus)contains broad ranges of bioactive compounds,we have explored the in vivo immunostimulating potential of amoebocyte lysate and plasma using a fish *** major carp,Labeo rohita,yearlings were injected intraperitoneally with two doses of lysate and plasma at 50 and 100µg protein per *** abnormalities and/or mortalities were recorded in any *** injected with 50µg lysate and 100µg plasma protein showed significant enhancement(P0.01)in any *** the contrary,a significantly high hemolysin titre was recorded in fish that received 100µg plasma *** challenge with Aeromonas hydrophila,both lysate and plasma protein(s)cross protected the fish after 30 *** highest survival(50%)was recorded in group injected with 50µg lysate protein,followed by 45%in both 100µg lysate and plasma protein injected groups.

BAX G(-248)A Gene Polymorphism and Its Association with Risk of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer—A Case Control Study

Pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein BAX is an important member of mitochondrial dependent apoptosis regulation and ultimately plays a pivotal role in malignancies. A promoter G(-248)A polymorphism in the TP53 binding region of BAX results in differential binding capacity of TP53 protein there by regulating its expression, which has been found to be associated with different clinical outcomes in various malignancies. Presently we aimed to analyze the possible impact of the BAX G(-248)A polymorphism on the risk and other clinical features of non-small cell lung cancer in Indian population. The BAX promoter polymorphism was analyzed in blood samples of 320 subjects with 1:1 case/control ratio by primer-introduced restriction analysis PCR and survival curves were plotted using Kaplan-Meier analysis. It was observed that more than 3-fold increased risk of developing non-small cell lung cancer was associated with homozygous AA genotype of BAX G(-248)A promoter polymorphism in Indian population, with more predominant in smokers with pack-year > 45 (heavy) and using cigarette or huka as their smoking source than homozygous GG genotype. Significant associations was observed between TNM stage (p = 0.037) and histological type (0.02), of non-small cell lung cancer patients with the polymorphism. Patients homozygous for A allele exhibited a significant poor overall survival compared with patients displaying GA + AA or GA or GG genotype [median survival 6.0 vs 9.0, 11.0, and 30.0 months, respectively (p < 0.0001)]. Adenocarcinoma and advanced stage patients with AA genotype showed lower median survival time than squamous cell carcinoma and early stage non-small cell lung cancer patients (median 3.0 and 5.0 vs 8.0 and 9.0 months, respectively).
