Nanocrystalline NiFe2O4 spinel ferrites were synthesized by sol-gel method. The structural and magnetic properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). Annealing temperature showed prominent effect on the grain size. The average grain size of NiFe2O4 was observed to increase from 31 nm to 54 nm as the annealing increased from 500℃ to 1000℃. The IR spectra showed the absorption bands corresponding to stretching of tetrahedral and octahedral bands. The magnetic properties were observed to depend strongly on the annealing temperature.

Objective:The submental flap can be utilized for soft tissue reconstruction in oral cavity malignancies because due to its close approximation to the surgical site,fewer donor site morbidity and the cost effectiveness of the ***:A total of 30 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity were included in the study from July 2012 to August 2015 in a tertiary care referral *** with clinical staging Ⅰ/Ⅱ/Ⅲ (T1/T2/T3,N0) oral malignancy were included in the *** with nodal metastasis irrespective of the stage of disease and patients with chronic medical illness/revision cases were excluded from the *** island flap was utilized for the reconstruction of the soft tissue defect in each *** were followed at monthly interval till 6 months in the postoperative ***:The buccal mucosa (12 patients),tongue (10 patients) and floor of mouth (8 patients) were the subsites in the oral *** and complete skin necrosis was found in 4 and 2 patients *** chemoradiation was required in 5 *** of the patients had loco regional recurrence till 6 months of ***:The submental island flap is considered to be the reliable option for the soft tissue reconstruction in oral cancer because of dependent vascular pedicle,less donor site morbidity and the lower cost compared to the free flaps,often preferred in patients with a lower socioeconomic condition.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), an important antioxidant molecule playing a major role in electron transport chain, has been commercially produced by fermentation process for the use in oral nutraceutical formulations. Constructing the high-yielding CoQ10 producing strains is a pre-requisite for cost-effective production. A superior mutant strain P-87 generated from Paracoccus denitrificans ATCC 19367, which showed 1.25-fold improvement in specific CoQ10 content higher than the wild type strain at shake flask level, was selected to carry out the studies on CoQ10 yield improvement through fermenter process optimization. In the course of study, initially the cane-molasses-based medium and fed-batch fermentation strategy using pHBA in combination with sucrose were standardized in shake flask using wild type strain. This strategy was subsequently translated at 2 L laboratory fermenter while optimizing the fermentation process parameters using improved mutant strain P-87. Under optimized fermentation condition, mutant strain P-87 produced 49.85 mg/L of CoQ10 having specific content of 1.63 mg/g of DCW, which was 1.36 folds higher than the specific CoQ10 content of wild-type strain under similar optimized condition. The temperature and DO were found to be critical parameters for CoQ10 production by mutant strain P-87. The optimum temperature was found to be 32°C and the optimum DO concentration to be maintained throughout the fermentation cycle was found to be 30% of air saturation. Overall, a new cost-effective process has been established for the production of CoQ10 using the cheaper substrate “cane molasses” and higher CoQ10 producing mutant strain P-87.

A prospective randomized, placebo-controlled trial comparing mifepristone and vaginal misoprostol to vaginal misoprostol alone for elective termination of early pregnancy. Author: Dr Roopa Malik, Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and gynaecology department Pt BDS PGIMS Rohtak BACKGROUND: Vaginal misoprostol has been shown to be an effective single agent for medical agent for medical abortion. This randomized, placebo controlled trial compared a regimen of mefipristone and misoprostol with misoprostol alone for termination of early pregnancy. METHODS: 200 women with gestation <56 days were randomized by a random number table to receive either 200 mg mifepristone orally or placebo followed 48 h later by 800 ug vaginal misoprostol. Abortion success was defined as complete abortion without the use of surgical aspiration. RESULTS: Successful medical abortions occurred in 96 out of 100 subjects (96%) after mifepristone followed by vaginal misoprostol. In all, 79 out of 100 subjects (79%) successfully aborted after placebo and vaginal misoprostol. The higher success rate of complete abortion with mifepristone and misoprostol regimen was statistically significant compared with the placebo and misoprostol regimen (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: A regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol was significantly more effective for termination of pregnancies <56 days than misoprostol alone. The misoprostol alone regimen for termination of early pregnancy is not a very good method for medical abortion but 79% efficacy obtained with vaginal misoprostol alone may clinically acceptable when mifepristone is not available.

Biochemical synthesis of silver nanoprticles using filamentous fungi Penicillium decumbens (MTCC-2494) and its efficacy against A-549 lung cancer cell line

Biosynthesis of silver and other metallic nanoparticles is one of the emerging research area in the field of science and technology due to their potentiality, especially in the field of nano-biotechnology and biomedical sciences in order to develop nanomedicine. In our present study, Penicillium decumbens(MTCC-2494) was brought from Institute of Microbial Technology(IMTECH) Chandigarh and employed for extracellular biological synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Ag-NPs formation was appeared with a dark brown color inside the conical flask. Characterization of Ag-NPs were done by UV-Spectrophotometric analysis which showed absorption peak at 430 nm determines the presence of nanoparticles, Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis, showed amines and amides are the possible proteins involved in the stabilization of nanoparticles as capping agent. Atomic force Microscopy(AFM) confirmed the particle are spherical, size was around 30 to 60 nm and also the roughness of nanoparticles. Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) showed the topology of the nanoparticles and were spherical in shape. The biosynthesis process was found fast, ecofriendly and cost effective. Nano-silver particle was found to have a broad antimicrobial activity and also it showed good enhancement of antimicrobial activity of Carbenicillin, Piperacillin, Cefixime, Amoxicillin, Ofloxacin and Sparfloxacin in a synergistic mode. These Ag-NPs showed good anti-cancer activity at 80 μg·m L^(-1) upon 24 hours of incubation and toxicity increases upon 48 hours of incubation against A-549 human lung cancer cell line and the synergistic formulation of the antibiotic with the synthesized nanoparticles was found more effective against the pathogenic bacteria studied.

Financial time series forecasting could be beneficial for individual as well as institutional investors. But, the high noise and complexity residing in the financial data make this job extremely challenging. Over the years, many researchers have used support vector regression (SVR) quite successfully to conquer this challenge. In this paper, an SVR based forecasting model is proposed which first uses the principal component analysis (PCA) to extract the low-dimensional and efficient feature information, and then uses the independent component analysis (ICA) to preprocess the extracted features to nullify the influence of noise in the features. Experiments were carried out based on 16 years’ historical data of three prominent stocks from three different sectors listed in Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Bangladesh. The predictions were made for 1 to 4 days in advance targeting the short term prediction. For comparison, the integration of PCA with SVR (PCA-SVR), ICA with SVR (ICA-SVR) and single SVR approaches were applied to evaluate the prediction accuracy of the proposed approach. Experimental results show that the proposed model (PCA-ICA-SVR) outperforms the PCA-SVR, ICA-SVR and single SVR methods.

Nanocrystalline lithium iron oxide LiFeO2 was synthesized using sol-gel method. Rietveld analysis was performed to confirm the different phases associated in the formation of LiFeO2. Quantitative Rietveld refinement revealed that sample contains: 39.9 wt% of cubic α – LiFeO2 phase, 58.5 wt% of monoclinic β - LiFeO2 and tetragonal 1.7 wt%. of γ - LiFeO2. The nanocrystalline nature of the prepared samples was confirmed by SEM analysis. The magnetic properties of LiFeO2 showed ferromagnetic property at room temperature.
