Discovering hidden patterns:Association rules for cardiovascular diseases in type 2 diabetes mellitus

BAcKGROUND It is increasingly common to find patients affected by a combination of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and coronary artery disease(cAD),and studies are able to correlate their relationships with available biological and clinical evidence.The aim of the current study was to apply association rule mining(ARM)to discover whether there are consistent patterns of clinical features relevant to these diseases.ARM leverages clinical and laboratory data to the meaningful patterns for diabetic cAD by harnessing the power help of data-driven algorithms to optimise the decision-making in patient care.AIM To reinforce the evidence of the T2DM-cAD interplay and demonstrate the ability of ARM to provide new insights into multivariate pattern discovery.METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Biochemistry in a specialized tertiary care centre in Delhi,involving a total of 300 consented subjects categorized into three groups:cAD with diabetes,cAD without diabetes,and healthy controls,with 100 subjects in each group.The participants were enrolled from the cardiology IPD&OPD for the sample collection.The study employed ARM technique to extract the meaningful patterns and relationships from the clinical data with its original value.RESULTS The clinical dataset comprised 35 attributes from enrolled subjects.The analysis produced rules with a maximum branching factor of 4 and a rule length of 5,necessitating a 1%probability increase for enhancement.Prominent patterns emerged,highlighting strong links between health indicators and diabetes likelihood,particularly elevated HbA1c and random blood sugar levels.The ARM technique identified individuals with a random blood sugar level>175 and HbA1c>6.6 are likely in the“cAD-with-diabetes”group,offering valuable insights into health indicators and influencing factors on disease outcomes.cONcLUSION The application of this method holds promise for healthcare practitioners to offer valuable insights for enhancing patient treatment targeting specific subtype

A remarkable Psathyrella was collected on several occasions during our diversity study on the agaricoid fungi of Kerala State,India.The macroand micromorphological features in conjunction with nrITS-based phylogenetic analysis identified the collections as Psathyrella squarrosa,a recently described species from china.A reassessment of the species is provided based on collections made in Kerala State,India.This forms the first world report of the species after the type.

BAcKGROUND coronary artery disease(cAD)is a major cause of death worldwide,and India contributes to about one-fifth of total cAD deaths.The development of cAD has been linked to the accumulation of Nε-carboxymethyl-lysine(cML)in heart muscle,which correlates with fibrosis.AIM To assess the impact of cML and inflammatory markers on the biochemical and cardiovascular characteristics of cAD patients with and without diabetes.METHODS We enrolled 200 consecutive cAD patients who were undergoing coronary angiography and categorized them into two groups based on their serum glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)levels(group I:HbA1c≥6.5;group II:HbA1cc levels,cML,interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),and nitric oxide.RESULTS Group I (81 males and 19 females) patients had a mean age of 54.2 ± 10.2 years, with a mean diabetes duration of4.9 ± 2.2 years. Group II (89 males and 11 females) patients had a mean age of 53.2 ± 10.3 years. Group I had moresevere cAD, with a higher percentage of patients with single vessel disease and greater stenosis severity in the leftanterior descending coronary artery compared to group II. Group I also exhibited a larger left atrium diameter.Group I patients exhibited significantly higher levels of cML, TNF-α, and IL-6 and lower levels of nitric oxide ascompared with group II patients. Additionally, cML showed a significant positive correlation with IL-6 (r = 0.596,P = 0.001) and TNF-α (r = 0.337, P = 0.001) and a negative correlation with nitric oxide (r=-4.16, P = 0.001). Oddsratio analysis revealed that patients with cML in the third quartile (264.43-364.31 ng/mL) were significantlyassociated with diabetic cAD at unadjusted and adjusted levels with covariates.

Improved thermoelectric property of cation-substituted caMnO_3

Single-phase pristine and cation-substituted calcium manganite（ca1-xBixMn1-yVyO3-δ） polycrystalline samples were synthesized by the solid state reaction technique. Their thermoelectric properties were measured by a set up that was designed and assembled in the laboratory. The ca1-x BixMn1-yVyO3-δsample with x = y = 0.04 has shown a power factor（S^2σ） of 176 μW/m/K^2 at 423 K, which is nearly two orders of magnitude higher than that of the pristine sample（2.1 μW/m/K2）. The power factor of the substituted oxide remains almost temperature independent as the Seebeck coefficient increases monotonically with temperature, along with the simultaneous decrease in electrical resistivity which is attributed to enhanced electron density due to co-doping of bismuth and vanadium and grain boundary scattering. These cation-substituted calcium manganites can be used as a potential candidate for an n-type leg in a thermoelectric generator（module）.

EMR2 is an EGF-like module containing mucin-like hormone receptor-2 precursor, a G-protein coupled receptor （G-PcR）. Mutation in EMR2 causes complicated disorders like polycystic kidney disease （PKD）. The structure of EMR2 shows that the fifth domain is comprised of EGF-TM7 helices. Functional assignment of EMR2 by support vector machine （SVM） revealed that along with transporter activity, several novel functions are predicted. A twenty amino acid sequence ＂MGGRVFLVFLAFcVWLTLPG＂ acts as the signal peptide responsible for post- translational transport. Eight amino acids are involved in N-glycosylation sites and two cleavage sites are LeuS17 and SerS18 in EMR2. The residue Arg241 is responsible for interaction with glycosaminoglycan and chondroitin sulfate. On the basis of structure, function and ligand binding sites, competitive EMR2 inhibitors designed may decrease the rate of human diseases like Usher＇s syndrome, bilateral frontoparietal polymicrogyria and PKD.

Impacts of climate change and Hydrological Hazards on Monsoon crop Patterns in the Lesser Himalaya: A Watershed Based Study

The Lesser Himalaya region is a densely populate d, nonglacial tract of the Himalaya. About 95 percent of the regional population depends on agriculture and forest resources but both have been declining rapidly in recent decades due to climate change and hydrological hazards. The main objective of this study was to assess the integrated impacts of climate change and hydrological hazards on monsoon crop patterns in the Lesser Himalaya through a geographic information system(GIS) database management system(DMS). The DMS comprises four GIS modules: climate informatics, land use informatics, hydro-informatics, and agro-informatics. The Dabka watershed in India’s Uttarakhand State is part of the Kosi Basin in the Lesser Himalaya in District Nainital and was chosen as a case study. The climate of the study area, depending on elevation, falls into three climatic zones: subtropical, temperate, and moist temperate, which are favorable for mixed forest, pine forest, and oak forest respectively. The results of the climate-informatics analysis suggest that in recent decades all these climatic zones have shifted towards higher altitudes and the areas of oak and pine forests have decreased. Forest degradation has accelerated hydrological hazards(high runoff, flash floods, river-line floods, soil erosion, and landslides) in monsoon periods, which affected about 22 percent of the cultivated land annually in 2005–2010. Monsoon crop yields decreased by an annual average of 1.40 percent between 1985 and 2010 while the population of the study area increased by an average of 2 percent each year in the same period. The negative correlation between annual crop yields and population growth has led to increased food security risks.

cytogenetic studies of chromium(Ⅲ) oxide nanoparticles on Allium cepa root tip cells

The current study evaluates the cytogenetic effects of chromium（Ⅲ） oxide nanoparticles on the root cells of Allium cepa.The root tip cells of A.cepa were treated with the aqueous dispersions of cr2O3 nanoparticles（NPs） at five different concentrations（0.01,0.1,1,10,and 100 μg/m L） for 4 hr.The colloidal stability of the nanoparticle suspensions during the exposure period were ascertained by particle size analyses.After 4 hr exposure to cr2O3 NPs,a significant decrease in mitotic index（MI） from 35.56%（control） to 35.26%（0.01 μg/m L）,34.64%（0.1 μg/m L）,32.73%（1 μg/m L）,29.6%（10 μg/m L） and 20.92%（100 μg/m L） was noted.The optical,fluorescence and confocal laser scanning microscopic analyses demonstrated specific chromosomal aberrations such as-chromosome stickiness,chromosome breaks,laggard chromosome,clumped chromosome,multipolar phases,nuclear notch,and nuclear bud at different exposure concentrations.The concentration-dependent internalization/bio-uptake of cr2O3 NPs may have contributed to the enhanced production of anti oxidant enzyme,superoxide dismutase to counteract the oxidative stress,which in turn resulted in observed chromosomal aberrations and cytogenetic effects.These results suggest that A.cepa root tip assay can be successfully applied for evaluating environmental risk of cr2O3 NPs over a wide range of concentrations.
