Purpose:This meta-analytical study aimed to explore the effects of resistance training(rT) volume on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation in postmenopausal and older ***:A systematic search was performed for randomized controlled trials in PubMed,Scopus,Web of Science,and *** controlled trials with postmenopausal and older females that compared rT effects on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation with a control group(CG) were *** reviewers selected the studies,extracted the data,and performed the risk of bias and certainty of the evidence(Grading of recommendations,Assessment,Development,and Evaluation(GrADE)) *** body and abdominal adiposity,blood lipids,glucose,and C-reactive protein were included for meta-analysis.A random-effects model,standardized mean difference(Hedges’ g),and 95% confidence interval(95%CI) were used for ***:Twenty randomized controlled trials(overall risk of bias:some concerns;GrADE:low to very low) with overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females were *** groups were divided into low-volume rT(LVrT,~44 sets/week) and high-volume rT(HVrT,~77 sets/week).Both rT groups presented improved body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation when compared to ***,HVrT demonstrated higher effect sizes than LVrT for glucose(HVrT=-1.19;95%CI:-1.63 to-0.74;LVrT=-0.78;95%CI:-1.15 to-0.41) and C-reactive protein(HVrT=-1.00;95%CI:-1.32 to-0.67;LVrT=-0.34;95%CI,-0.63 to-0.04)) when compared to ***:Compared to CG,HVrT protocols elicit greater improvements in metabolic risk and inflammation outcomes than LVrT in overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females.

Development of mucoadhesive sericin/alginate particles loaded with ibuprofen for sustained drug delivery

A sericin/alginate blend was successfully applied as a matrix for incorporation of *** provided a sustained release formulation,which could improve the therapeutic efficacy of ibuprofen and patient adherence to *** increased the proportion of drug incorporated into the particles (i.e., the drug incorporation efficiency),with incorporation rates between 73.01%±1.70%and 94.15%±4.21%. Aims： To identify dietary practices together with anthropometric variables of a group of professional suffers. Subjects： Participants of a National Surf Championship in Brazil. Evaluations：（1） Anthropometric measures, indexes and calculations （body mass, height, arm span, body circumferences and nine skinfold thicknesses, arm spam/height ratio, waist-to-hip-ratio, conicity index and % body fat）; （2） One 24h food-recall, describing all the food and drinks consumed at the previous day, and analyzed for energy, macro-nutrients, some micro-nutrients and food groups. The values were compared with some references and position statements and with the Brazilian Food Guide; （3） The basal and daily energy expenditure was estimated from specific equations; the energy intake was estimated from the information on diet and the energy balance was estimated from the difference between these values. Main results： The intake of carbohydrate is below the position statements （2.5-9.7g/kg and 6-10g/kg body weight, respectively）. Possibly the intake of supplements such as maltodextrin fulfilled the requirements （30.3% of the athletes referred the intake of this supplement）; The intake of BCAA （Branched-Chain Amino Acids） showed to be high （24.2% of the athletes）; The low intake of vegetables possibly contributes to the low intake of micronutrients （0.0-6.0 servings, against the recommendation of 4-5 servings）; The high intake of fried food （added lipid = 0.0-5.9 servings, against the recommendation of 1.0-2.0 servings） overlapped healthy habits such as beans and nuts consumption （0.0-13.6 servings against the recommendation of 1.0 serving）; The percentage of body fat seems to be similar to swimmers （around 12% of body weight）. Freshwater biota are more comprehensive and direct indicators of biological impacts,and more meaningful to the public than water quality or physical habitat *** biotic data and the multiple biological indicators developed from them offer a much richer array of data for assessing the impacts of pollution controls than a limited set of physical or chemical *** recent decades,assemblage-based assessments by ecologists,environmental scientists,and water quality agencies have been employed globally for determining the condition of,and threats to,freshwater ecosystems.A key step in this advance has been the development of multimetric indices(MMIs)or indices of biotic integrity(IBIs)based on quantitative assessments of algae,macrophyte,macroinvertebrate,fish or riparian bird *** Europe,where biological assemblages are mandated for assessing freshwater ecosystem health,many indices are ***,the proliferation of MMIs globally has not always occurred through the application of rigorous study designs and monitoring protocols,nor have they always effectively incorporated functional metrics,stressor assessments,and statistical ***,in this review,we discuss eleven major concerns with the development and application(including logistical limitations)of multimetric indicators based on freshwater biota to encourage more rigorous and widely applicable(transferable)MMI use and ***,our concerns focus on reference conditions;sampling effort,methods,and season;trophic guild definition;metric comprehensiveness,options,screening and scoring;and MMI *** could also benefit from increased attention to ecological mechanisms and metric development,to further improve our understanding of anthropogenic impacts as well as rehabilitation effects on freshwater ecosystems *** closer attention to study designs,ecological mechanisms and metric development should further improve our understa

Total Knee Arthroplasty:Patellar replacement’s Influence in Patient Quality of Life Postoperatively

Objective: To study the influence of patellar resurfacing on quality of life under a standardised score. The chosen score was the Knee Society Score (KSS), which considers range of motion, pain, contractors, alignment and stability. Methods: retrospective review of 60 patients submitted to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was divided into two groups: with patellar resurfacing (pr) and without patellar resurfacing (Npr). We reviewed data from these patients containing the KSS, which are routinely used in our service. Data were analysed from 2013 to 2014, with a minimal patient follow-up of 18 months. results: There were no unsatisfactory scores in our study. Total scores (KSS) were similar between the groups (mean KSS: pr = 88.36 ± 9.64;Npr = 84.26 ± 9.44 [p = 0.1]). While stratifying into groups (poor, fair, good, excellent), we found excellent results in 84.8% of pr versus 59.3% Npr (p = 0.056). These data did not reach statistical significance and can therefore be considered a coincidental result. Conclusion: Although these results did not show statistical significance (p = 0.056), patellar resurfacing patients tend to get more “excellent” results after 18 months of follow-up in quality of life when evaluated by KSS. Perhaps a larger amount of patients would suffice to acquire statistical significance in a future study.

proteomics techniques were used to study the molecular mechanisms involved in the defense of tomato against late blight (Phytophthora infestans). proteins were extracted from resistant access BGH-2127 and susceptible cultivar “Santa Clara”. Leaves of the inoculated and non-inoculated (control) genotypes were collected at 0, 2, and 48 h after inoculation and analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE), followed by identification with mass spectrometry (MALDI TOF-TOF). A total of 56 differentially abundant proteins were identified, of which 39 were resistant genotypes and 17 were susceptible. These proteins were categorized into functional groups of energy and metabolism, photosynthesis, stress and defense, transcription, other proteins, and as un-characterized ones. For access BGH-2127, oxidative stress proteins (2-cis peroxiedoxin BAS1 and 2-cis peroxiredoxin) and thaumatin-like protein showed increase in the relative abundance at 0 and 48 h of inoculation, respectively, and were therefore considered important for the defense mechanism of this genotype. The expression standards evaluated by real-time PCr differed from the results of the proteomic analysis. The protein-protein interaction networks provided important information on the cellular activities involved in the resistance of BGH-2127 late blight.

Infrared thermography (IrT) has emerged for evaluation of animal welfare. To test the hypothesis that cattle subjected to vaquejada increased temperature in the eye (CLO) and tail due to physical effort, a research was developed that aimed to measure maximum surface temperature in the CLO and base of tail using IrT. Eighty Nellore cattle were used, which were subjected to physical effort in three periods (morning, afternoon and night). IrT was performed at CLO and base of tail, in rest pen/corral (control) and during the vaquejada (pre- and post-run). Tails’ analysis was divided in 3 points (E1, E2 and E3). ANOVA and Tukey’s test (p re used for analysis. Temperatures were higher in morning and afternoon and different from those at night on control (p ring vaquejada with one run, CLO was higher in pre-run, followed by a slight reduction in post-run (p ratures variations at tail, higher temperatures were observed in the morning, followed by the evening and night (p rences within the pre- and post-run periods. Temperatures at tail’s points were higher in morning period in cattle with two runs (p re were no increases in CLO or at tail’s points after vaquejada races. The IrT method was efficient in determining surface temperatures in CLO and tail points in cattle under the same conditions and may be a good noninvasive method for clinical and welfare assessments.

A High-Performance Codec Suitable for the GSM Half-rate Coding System

In this paper we describe our research work in GSM half-rate coding system for the pan-Europeandigital mobile cellular radio system. The system consists of a speech coder and a channel coder. An overview of thespeech coding algorithm is given. The channel coder uses CrC check and a convolutional code. Interleaving is usedto randomize the channel bursts. The proposed half-rate codec is implemented with a single TMS320C30. Theinformal tests (based on mos score) prove that our speech coder is of higher quality.
