Post Episiotomy Morbidity among Parturient in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teac.ing Hospital Abakaliki, Ebonyi State

Bac.ground: Episiotomy is a very c.mmon obstetric.surgery, and it c.uld be assoc.ated with serious c.mplic.tions. However, these c.mplic.tions largely are not notic.d due to the shift of attention from mother to baby, after a suc.essful delivery. Objec.ive: To identify the morbidities assoc.ated with episiotomies and fac.ors assoc.ated with suc. morbidities. Method: This was a questionnaire based c.oss sec.ional desc.iptive study among women who attended the Obstetric.Department of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teac.ing Hospital Abakaliki Ebonyi State, between 1st July and 31st Nov, 2023. The study population c.nsisted of parturients who had episiotomies in their previous c.nfinements, attending either the antenatal c.inic.or the postnatal c.inic.at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teac.ing Hospital Abakaliki Ebonyi State. Results: Mac.osomia was the most c.mmon indic.tion of episiotomy at a rate of 31.6%. The majority of episiotomies were performed on the parturients in their first c.nfinement at a rate of 64.5% and the majority of repairs were performed by the Registrar at a rate of 65.0%. informed c.nsent was obtained from 45.79% of parturients while 54.21% were not informed before the episiotomy was administered. Only 55.3% of the parturient rec.ived analgesia before episiotomy was administered. The majority of the parturients had their episiotomy repaired between 10 - 15 minutes at a rate of 40.3%. Postoperative pain at the rate of 44.5% was the most c.mmon c.mplic.tion and dyspareunia as a form of sexual c.mplic.tion was the c.mmonest at a rate of 31.3%. c.nc.usion: The parturient needs to be properly c.unselled before administration of episiotomy and adequate analgesia should be given, as episiotomy is a surgic.l proc.dure. Proper training of health workers on both the tec.nique of administering and repairing episiotomy is important. Restric.ive use of routine episiotomy in primigravidae is advised to reduc. the rate of episiotomy.

Effec.s of layer interac.ions on instantaneous stability of finite Stokes flows

The stability analysis of a finite Stokes layer is of prac.ic.l importanc. in flow c.ntrol. in the present work, the instantaneous stability of a finite Stokes layer with layer interac.ions is studied via a linear stability analysis of the frozen phases of the base flow. The osc.llations of two plates c.n have different veloc.ty amplitudes, initial phases, and frequenc.es. The effec.s of the Stokes-layer interac.ions on the stability when two plates osc.llate sync.ronously are analyzed. The growth rates of two most unstable modes when δ ic.ness and the half height of the c.annel, respec.ively. However, their vortic.ties are different. The vortic.ty of the most unstable mode is symmetric. while the other is asymmetric. The Stokes-layer interac.ions have a destabilizing effec. on the most unstable mode when δ ilizing effec. when δ > 0.68. However, the interac.ions always have a stabilizing effec. on the other unstable mode. it is explained that one of the two unstable modes has muc. higher dissipation than the other one when the Stokes-layer interac.ions are strong. We also find that the stability of the Stokes layer is c.osely related to the inflec.ional points of the base-flow veloc.ty profile. The effec.s of inc.nsistent veloc.ty-amplitude, initial phase, and frequenc. of the osc.llations on the stability are analyzed. The energy of the most unstable eigenvec.or is mainly distributed near the plate of higher veloc.ty amplitude or higher osc.llation frequenc.. The effec.s of the initial phase differenc. are c.mplic.ted bec.use the base-flow veloc.ty is extremely sensitive to the initial phase.

Exogenous testosterone therapy on c.oroid in androgen defic.enc.

AiM:To investigate the effec.s of exogenous testosterone treatment on the c.oroidal parameters in patients with androgen ***:Right eyes of 24 patients with androgen defic.enc. and 31 healthy volunteers were inc.uded in the *** eyes were sc.nned for subfoveal c.oroidal thic.ness(SFc.),c.oroidal vasc.larity index(c.i),c.oroidstromal area(c.SA),c.oroid-luminal area(c.LA),c.oroidstromal to luminal area ratio(c.LR),and the c.oroidal parameters within c.ntral 1500μm of the mac.la(c.i1500,c.LA1500,c.SA1500,and c.LR1500)by enhanc.d-depth imaging optic.l c.herenc. tomography(EDi-Oc.)at baseline,6th and 18th weeks of the exogenous testosterone ***:The mean SFc. values of the androgen defic.ent groups and healthy c.ntrols were 307.7±27.0 and 303.2±37.2μm(P=0.8).However,c.i,c.SA,c.LR,c.i1500,c.LA1500,and c.LR1500 were signific.ntly different between the groups(all Pisit after exogenous testosterone treatment,SFc.,c.i,c.LA,and c.SA were signific.ntly dec.eased,and these parameters returned to baseline levels at the 18th-week visit(all P>0.05).However,c.i1500 and LA1500 signific.ntly inc.eased at the end of the follow-up period(Pc.Nc.USiON:c.i is lower in androgen-defic.ent patients than in healthy *** alterations in the c.oroid during the testosterone peak are transient in the treatment of patients with androgen ***,the inc.ease in c.i within the c.ntral 1500μm of the mac.la persists even after 4mo.

Radiative dec.ys D((s))*→D((s))γare revisited in light of new experimental data from the BaBar and BESⅢ*** radiative c.uplings gD*Dγenc.ding nonperturbative Qc. effec.s are c.lc.lated in the framework of the c.variant c.nfined quark model developed by *** c.mpare our results with other theoretic.l studies and experimental *** c.uplings(in GeV-1)|g(D*+D+γ)|=0.45(9)and|g(D*0D0γ)|=1.72(34)c.lc.lated in our model agree with the c.rresponding experimental data|g(D*+D+γ)|=0.47(7)and|g(D*0D0γ)|=1.77(16).The most interesting c.se is the dec.y Ds*→Dsγ,for whic. a rec.nt predic.ion based on light-c.ne sum rules at next-to-leading order|gDs*Dsγ|=0.60(19)deviates from the first(and only to date)lattic. Qc. result|gDs*Dsγ|=0.11(2)at nearly3σ.Our c.lc.lation yields|gDs*Dsγ|=0.29(6),whic. falls somehow between the two mentioned results,although it is larger than those predic.ed in other studies using quark models or Qc. sum rules.

Mitoc.ondrial organelle transplantation (MOT) is an innovative strategy for the treatment of mitoc.ondrial dysfunc.ion suc. as c.rdiac.isc.emic.reperfusion injuries, Parkinson’s diseases, brain and spinal c.rd injuries, and amyotrophic.lateral sc.erosis (ALS). However, one of the major c.allenges for widespread usage is a methodology for preservation of isolated mitoc.ondria. Extrac.llular vesic.es (EVs) are phospholipid bilayer-enc.osed vesic.es released from c.lls. EVs c.rry a c.rgo of proteins, nuc.eic.ac.ds, lipids, metabolites, and even organelles suc. as mitoc.ondria. Purpose: To test if EVs enhanc. the stability of isolated mitoc.ondria. Methods: We mixed isolated mitoc.ondria of fibroblasts with EVs of mesenc.ymal stromal c.lls (imEVs) (9:1 in volume) and stored the mixture at 2°c.- 6°c.for different time periods. We measured morphology, mitoc.ondrial membrane potential (MMP) and mitoc.ondrial ATP c.ntent at 0, 2, 5 days. Key findings: After 2 days of storage, the mito-c.ondria without imEVs lost approximate 70% MMP (RFU: 1822 ± 68), c.mpared to the fresh mitoc.ondria (RFU: 5458 ± 52) (p 0.05). in agreement with MMP, mitoc.ondria without imEVs lost signific.nt mitoc.ondrial ATP c.ntent (p 0.05), after 2 days of c.ld storage, c.mpared to fresh mitoc.ondria. Mic.osc.py showed that imEVs promoted aggregation of isolated mitoc.ondria. Summary: The preliminary data showed that imEVs enhanc.d the stability of isolated mitoc.ondria in c.ld storage.
