It is known that the high electronegativity of fluorine affects various soft tissues,especially the bone structure in *** these tissues are the kidneys,which play an important role in the excretion of fluoride from the *** affects many cellular *** of these effects is DNA *** study aimed to investigate the likely protective effect of cholecalciferol(vitamin D3)on genomic DNA damage-induced NaF depending on concentration and *** IC25 and IC50 values of NaF for 3,12 and 24 h and optimum dose of increase in proliferation to vitamin D3 through MTT assay in NRK-52E kidney cells were *** damage was significantly increased(p<0.05)compared to the control group in all groups except for vitamin *** was determined that treatment with NaF together with vitamin D3 decreased the DNA damage compared to NaF treated groups for 3 and 12 *** combined with vitamin D3 was determined statistically to decrease(p<0.05)DNA damage compared to NaF treated groups for 24 *** a result,it was determined that the treatment with cytotoxic concentration NaF depending on the time significantly increased(p<0.05)the genomic DNA damage,but NaF treatment together with vitamin D3 decreased the DNA damage in renal cells depending on the *** was concluded that vitamin D3 may be useful in preventing DNA damage caused by NaF.

AIM： To evaluate the neuroprotective effect of rosuvastatin, in a rat experimental glaucoma model. METHODS： Ocular hypertension was induced in right eyes of Long-Evans rats （n=30） by cauterization of three episcleral veins. Left eyes were defined as controls. Rats were divided into five groups： oral rosuvastatin, intravitreal rosuvastatin, oral ＋intravitreal rosuvastatin, intravitreal sham and glaucoma without intervention. Rats were sacrificed at day 14. Retinal ganglion cell （RGC） number was assessed by histopathological analysis. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-nick end-labeling （TUNEL） staining and the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein （GFAP） in RGC layer was also examined. RESULTS： A significant intraocular pressure （lOP） elevation was seen （P=0.002）. Elevated lOP resulted in a significant decrease in number of RGCs in group 5 （70.33 ±8.2 cells/mm2） when compared with controls （92.50 ±13.72 cells/mm2; P=0.03）. The RGC number in group 1 （92.4±7.3 cells/mm2） was significantly higher than group 5 （ρ=0.03）. The numbers of RGC in groups 2, 3 （57.3±8.2 cells/mm2, 60.5±12.9 cells/mm2） were comparable with that of group 5 （ρ=0.18 and P=0.31）. The apoptosis rates with TUNEL staining were also parallel to RGC number. Animals with experimentally induced glaucoma showed an increase in retinal GFAP immunoreacUvity. CONCLUSION： Decrease in RGC loss and apoptosis suggest the neuroprotective potential of oral rosuvastatin treatment in a rat model of ocular hypertension. Howeverintravitreal rosuvastatin showed a contrary effect and further studies are required.

Emotions of Gynecologic Cancer Patients Dealing with Permanent Colostomy:A Qualitative Interview Study

Purpose: This study was conducted to describe emotional state of colostomized patients with gynecologic cancer. Patients and Methods: The study employed a qualitative design from May to October of 2010, in a private university hospitals outpatient gnecologic oncology clinic in Ankara, Turkey. Content analysis with an inductive approach had been used to analyze 32 interviews that served as the data base for this study. Interview form that focused on what gynecologic cancer women felt to living with a colostomy. Results: Findings also reveal that gynecologic cancer patients with colostomy experience many uneasy feelings that affect their emotional state. The content analysis resulted in the development of two thematic units. The first we described as “To experience the consequences of stoma as a gynecologic cancer patients”. The second was “suffering experienced-being challenged the consequences of the stoma”, and the third was “promote self management-normalization of the new condition”. For the psychological support, family and friends’ support has been mentioned as the most important part that can release their anxiety. Conclusions: We concluded that a having stoma was difficult for the women. The emotional state of the women when they get colostomy was typically characterized by fear, and worry about their current process. Body image, self-esteem, social activity, sexuality were the aspects that most affected the patients. Nurses have very important role within holistic approach and empathetic interaction, for determining major problem areas.

This study accentuates the differences in the ways in which Ottoman women, Muslim and non-Muslim, used the Islamic courts. In some regions Ottoman women went to the courts on their own while in others they relied on male representatives to enter into transactions or litigate on their behalf. Studies treating Islamic court records as uniform in shape and content have offered conflicting conclusions about the status of women in Ottoman society. This study demonstrates that a number of geographic and temporal variations affected women＇s access the courts, significantly affecting their legal status in the period of 1550-1650.

Purpose: This study was conducted to describe feelings and spiritual practices of patients with mastectomy. Method: The study was employed a qualitative design at a private university hospital oncology unit in Ankara, Turkey. Interviews were performed with 20 mastectomized women. Results: The findings indicated that commonly used in several spiritual practices;prayer was used by 96%, of the patients, and 94% requested that others pray for their health, the practice to positive reframing (76%), the practice to planning for family-friends activities (74%), visiting mos-que-shrine (73%), and the practice to reading Quran (71%). The categorization of the data led to identification of three thematic units. The first we described as “Experiencing the consequences of illness as a disorder”. The second was “Restoring a sense of order to life”, and the third was “Living with the new condition”. Conclusion: We concluded that a having mastectomy was difficult for the subjects. In this respect, nurses’ role is vital to help women with breast cancer in such a difficult and modifying process as breast removal.

Effects of hyperbaric oxygen and Pgg-glucan on ischemic colon anastomosis

AIM： In colorectal surgery, anastomotic failure is still a problem in ischemia. Here, we analyzed the effects of hyperbaric oxygen and beta-glucan on colon anastomoses in ischemic condition. METHODS： Colonic resection and anastomosis in rectosigmoid region were done in forty Wistar-Albino rats of four groups of equal number. Colon mesentery was ligated to induce ischemia. The first group was the control group. The subjects of second group were treated with hyperbaric oxygen; the third group with glucan and the forth group were treated with both. At the forth day, rats were sacrificed, anastomotic segment was resected and burst pressures and hydroxyproline levels of anastomotic line were measured. RESULTS： The burst pressure difference of second and third groups from the control group were meaningful （P〈0.01）; the forth group differed significantly from the control （P〈0.001）. There was no difference between the treated groups on burst pressure level （P〉0.05）. The hydroxyproline levels in all treated groups were different from the control group significantly （P〈0.001）. Hydroxyproline levels in the forth group were higher than those of the second and the third groups （P〈 0.001）. There were no significant differences between the second and the fourth groups in burst pressure and hydroxyproline levels （P〉 0.05）. CONCLUSION： Hyperbaric oxygen and glucan improve healing in ischemic colon anastomoses by anti-microbic,immune stimulating properties and seem to act synergistically when combined together.

The airborne ragweed pollen spectrum was investigated in the air of Ankara, Turkey for aperiod of ten years (1990-1999) using a Burkard seven-day volumetric recording trap. In our study period,long distance transported Ambrosia pollen has been registered. Daily pollen levels varied from low to highin Burge抯 system. In last three years, the pollen concentration of Ambrosia showed a clear increasingtendency. Our results prove that ragweed pollen may be an important threat for ragweed sensitive patientsin Ankara city in near future.
