Prompt revascularization of the superior mesenteric artery(SMA) thrombotic occlusion can prevent intestinal infarction and decrease necrosis of the bowel ***,we describe two cases who underwent successful endovascular recanalization for acute SMA thrombosis using a primary aspiration thrombectomy because of possible consequent laparotomy for survey of bowel *** two patients had dramatic pain reliefimmediately after the procedure and remained symptomfree during the follow-up period.

In this study, we developed a three-stage catalyst-adsorbent reactor for the catalytic hydrolysis of CF4. Each stage is composed of a catalyst bed followed by an adsorbent bed using Ca（OH）2 to remove HF. The three stages are connected in series to enhance the hydrolysis of CF4 and eliminate a scrubber to dissolve HF in water at the same time. With a 10 wt-% Ce/AlaO3 catalyst prepared by the incipient wetness method using boehmite and a granular calcium hydroxide as an adsorbent, the CF4 conversion in our proposed reactor was 7%-23% higher than that in a conventional single-bed catalytic reactor in the temperature range of 923-1023 K. In addition, experimental and numerical simulation （Aspen HYSYS） results showed a reasonable trend of increased CF4 conversion with the adsorbent added and these results can be used as a useful design guideline for our newly proposed multistage reactor system.

Distribution of dinoflagellate cysts in Yellow Sea sediments

To investigate the distribution, abundance, and species composition of dinoflagellate cysts in the Yellow Sea, surface sediment samples were collected at 37 sites, including the Korean dump site. Twenty-one di- noflagellate cyst taxa were identified, with the assemblages dominated mainly by Spiniferites bulloideus, Operculodinium centrocarpum, and cyst of Alexandrium catenella/tarnarense type. A high frequency of O. centrocarpum in the Yellow Sea was observed for the first time, and it is likely that this can be attributed to the dynamics of the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass and the Changjiang （Yangtze） River runoff. Total cyst concentrations ranged from 23 to 48 442 cysts/g dry weight, and high cyst concentrations were recorded adjacent to the dumping site. This result suggests that anthropogenic activities such as ocean dumping s- timulate the growth of dinoflagellates in the Yellow Sea, which in turn leads to high levels of dinoflagellate cyst production.

We identified a total of 101 species and two subspecies of radiolarians belonging to 56 genera from 95 samples collected from the Hagjeon and Duho Formations in the Pohang Basin of the southeastern Korean Peninsula. On the basis of the biostratigraphic range of Cyrtocapsella cornuta and Theocorys redondoensis, the depositional period of the upper Hagjeon and lowest Duho Formations was determined to be early to late Middle Miocene. The occurrence of deep-dwelling radiolarians indicates that the paleobathymetry seems to become gradually progressing toward an upper bathyal environment in the middle part of the Hagjeon Formation. However, we prefer to accept another interpretation for the occurrence of deep-sea indicators in the Hagjeon and the lowest part of the Duho Formations, and consider the presence of a region of upwelling cold water that might have simulated a deep-water environment in relatively shallow water. This interpretation is based on the present upwelling of a cold-water mass off the southeast coast of Korea, the occurrence of upwelling microfossils from the Pohang Basin, and the effect of the closing of the Korea Strait approximately 15 Ma. We also considered that the uppermost part of the studied section represents a shallow-water environment.

Silica thin films synthesized sol–gel process are proposed as flexible encapsulation materials.A sol–gel process provides a dense and stable amorphous silica structure,yielding an extremely high elastic deformation limit of 4.9%and extremely low water vapor transmission rate(WVTR)of 2.90×10^(−4)g/(m^(2)∙day)at 60℃and relative humidity of 85%.The WVTR is not degraded by cyclic bending deformations for the bending radius corresponding to a tensile strain of 3.3%in the silica encapsulation film,implying that the silica thin film is robust against the formation of pinhole-type defects by cyclic bending *** organic solar cells encapsulated with the silica films operate without degradation in power conversion efficiency for 50,000 bending cycles for a bending radius of 6 mm.

Enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) is an extremely rare disease, which is often related to gluten-sensitive enteropathy. It is an uncommon intestinal lymphoma with very poor prognosis and high mortality rate. In the absence of specific symptoms or radiological findings, it is difficult to diagnose early. Major complications of EATL have been known as intestinal perforation or obstruction, and only 5 cases of EATL are reported in South Korea. In this study, we report a case of 71-year-old male with symptoms of diarrhea, which later it progressed into cancer perforation of the colon. The initial colonoscopic findings were normal and computed tomography scan demonstrated a segmental wall thickening of the distal ascending colon with nonspecific multiple small lymphnodes, along the ileocolic vessels, but no signs of mass or obstruction. The histologic findings of resected specimen confirmed EATL type II. Patient expired two weeks after the operation. Therefore, we emphasize the need of random biopsy in the presence of normal mucosa appearance on colonoscopy for the early diagnosis of EATL.

The application of phase change materials(PCMs)in building envelopes can help promote energy efficiency due to its high heat *** study aimed to provide energy and economic insights for deploying PCM to buildings in eight different regions of East Asia through a series of energy and economic analysis using computer modelling and *** static payback period(SPP)and dynamic payback(DPP)methods were used to evaluate the economic feasibility of applying a PCM at different melting phase temperatures(20℃,23℃,25℃,27℃ and 29℃).Results show that the proper choice of a PCM melting temperature is a key factor to improve the performance of the PCM applied to buildings.A melting phase temperature of 29℃ achieved the highest economic feasibility in Seoul,Tokyo;Pyongyang;Beijing;and Ulaanbaatar and a melting temperature of 23℃ in Hong Kong had the highest economic ***,the combined economic and energy analysis presented in this study can play an important role in improving the energy and economic feasibility of PCM in buildings.

Photonic crystal(PhC)phosphor,in which the phosphor material is periodically modulated for an enhancement in color-conversion efficiency via resonant absorption of excitation photons,is a paradigm-shifting structural phosphor ***-dimensional(2D)square-lattice PhC phosphor is currently considered the most advanced platform because of not only its high efficiency,but also its immunity to excitation *** the present study,two major modifications are made to further improve the performance of the 2D PhC phosphor:increasing the refractive index contrast and planarizing the *** index contrast is improved by replacing the PhC backbone material with TiO_(2)whereas the surface planarization is achieved by removing excessive colloidal quantum dots from the *** comparison with the reference phosphor,the upgraded PhC phosphor exhibits~59 times enhanced absorption(in simulations)and~7 times enhanced emission(in experiments),both of which are unprecedentedly *** results not only brighten the viability and applicability of the PhC phosphor but also spur the phosphor development through structural engineering of phosphor materials.

AIM： To investigate the hepatoprotective effect of manual acupuncture at Yanglingquan （GB34） on CCl4-induced chronic liver damage in rats. METHODS： Rats were injected intraperitoneally with CCh （1 mL/kg） and treated with manual acupuncture using reinforcing manipulation techniques at left GB34 （Yanglingquan） 3 times a week for 10 wk. A nonacupoint in left gluteal area was selected as a sham point. To estimate the hepatoprotective effect of manual acupuncture at GB34, measurement of liver index, biochemical assays including serum ALT, AST, ALP and total cholesterol, histological analysis and blood cell counts were conducted. RESULTS： Manual acupuncture at GB34 reduced the liver index, serum ALT, AST, ALP and total cholesterol levels as compared with the control group and the sham acupuncture group. It also increased and normalized the populations of WBC and lymphocytes. CONCLUSION： Manual acupuncture with reinforcing manipulation techniques at left GB34 reduces liver toxicity, protects liver function and liver tissue, and normalizes immune activity in CCh-intoxicated rats.
