Colorectal cancer remains one of the commonest and most lethal malignancies w.rldw.de(1).Up to 80%of patients w.th colorectal cancer develop liver metastases(CRLM),w.ich are the main factor limiting survival(1,2).Despite advances in systemic therapy and the emergence of multimodal treatment concepts,curative surgical resection remains the best therapeutic option and provides the highest chance of long-term survival(1,2).How.ver,liver resection is associated w.th perioperative morbidity and mortality,w.ile multiple factors affect long-term prognosis(3,4).As a result,various predictive models have been developed over time,to improve preoperative patient selection and foresee unfavourable outcomes.

Palaeogene Sandstones of the Manika Plateau in Kolw.zi (DR Congo): Sedimentological and Geochemical Characterization, Provenance, Palaeoalteration and Tectonic Context

This w.rk presents a study of the Paleogene sandstones of the Manika plateau in Kolw.zi, DR Congo. These sandstones belong to the “Grès polymorphes” group, w.ich together w.th the overlying “Sables ocre” makes up the Kalahari Supergroup. Sedimentological and geochemical analyses have enabled us to characterize these sandstones and determine their origin, the conditions of their formation and the tectonic context in w.ich they w.re developed. The results show.that the sandstones are quartz arenites w.th a high level of mineralogical, textural and chemical maturity. They are recycled sandstones, formed in an intracratonic sedimentary basin, in the context of a passive continental margin, after a long fluvial transport of sediments. These sandstones initially come from intense alteration of magmatic rocks w.th felsic composition, mainly tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite (TTG) complexes, in hot, humid palaeoclimatic conditions and oxidizing environments.

Further Studies of the Cap Pushing Response in Honey Bees (Apis mellifera)

The Cap Pushing Response (CPR) is a free-flying technique used to study learning and memory in honey bees (Apis mellifera). The series of experiments outlined in this paper aimed to test w.ether honey bees exhibit the cognitive concept of “expectancy” utilizing the CPR in a w.ight differentiation paradigm. Five previous experiments in our laboratory have explored w.ether the concept of expectancy can account for honey bee performance and have all failed to support the cognitive interpretation. The first experiment examined if bees could differentiate betw.en the tw. caps in the amount of force they used to push the cap and the distance the cap w.s pushed w.en the caps w.re presented one at a time. The second experiment explored cap w.ight preference by presenting bees w.th a choice betw.en the tw. caps. The third and fourth experiments tested the bee’s ability to expect rew.rd or punishment based on cap w.ight. Results revealed that bees w.re found to have a strong preference for the light cap and therefore w.re not able to expect rew.rd or punishment based on cap w.ight. These experiments contribute to the debate on w.ether bees have “cognitive” representations and continue to support the behaviorist interpretation.

Effect of a Nutrition Education Intervention on Food Safety Know.edge, Attitudes and Practices of Mothers of Children under 5 Years in the Peri-Urban Areas of Bobo-Dioulasso: Before and after Study

Background: This study assessed the effect of a nutrition education intervention. This intervention aimed to improve the know.edge, attitudes, and practices of mothers on food safety in the peri-urban areas of Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. Methods: A total of 243 mothers of children under 5 years in the peri-urban of Bobo-Dioulasso w.re administered the FAO questionnaire for food safety know.edge, attitudes, and practices assessment during tw. cross-sectional surveys, before and after the intervention, in January and October 2017. The intervention included tw. components consisting of a theoretical phase (counselling and discussion) and cooking demonstrations implemented for ten months. To account for the before-and-after design of the study, the McNemar’s test w.s used to assess the effect of the intervention on food safety KAP of mothers of children under 5 years. Results: The mean age of mothers w.s 29 ± 6.2 years and 50.6% of them w.re betw.en 20 and 29 years old. One for know.edge (cooking thoroughly w.th, p-value = 0.0001) and another for attitudes (perceived benefits of reheating leftovers before eating them, p-value = 0.0001), significantly increased after the intervention. In terms of food safety practices, all the indicators (cleaning of dirty surfaces, plates and utensils and storage of perishable foods) significantly increased (all p = 0.0001 Conclusion: This study provided some evidence of an effective nutrition education intervention for improving maternal KAP on food safety for their child’s feeding.

Context/objectives: The fight against Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) is a long-term undertaking, w.ich requires available, motivated and w.ll-managed human resources (HR). The administrative management of skills on both qualitative and quantitative levels is one of the essential functions of a health system. To better implement policies of fight against High Blood Pressure (HBP) and other chronic diseases, it is important to establish strategies to retain health personnel. This loyalty requires favorable w.rking conditions and consideration of the contribution-rew.rd couple. Good w.rking conditions are likely to reduce the phenomenon of medical nomadism;conversely, poor HR management can contribute to their exodus tow.rds exotic “green pastures”, thus leading to an additional crisis in the Cameroonian health system. The fight against HBP is a complex, multifaceted and multifactorial reality that requires appropriate management model for all types of resources mainly HR. The main objective of this research is to show.the impact of poor management of human resources in Cameroon health system on medical nomadism and the ineffectiveness of the fight against High Blood Pressure. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive survey among five hundred (500) health facilities in the center region of Cameroon has been conducted. A stratified probabilistic technique has been used, and the number of health facilities to be surveyed has been determined using the “sample size estimation table” of Depelteau. The physical questionnaires have been printed and then distributed to data collectors. After data collection, the latter w.re grouped during processing in Excel sheets. The Chi-square test w.s used for data w.th a qualitative value and that of Kolmogorov-Sminorf for data w.th a quantitative value to assess the normality and reliability of data.
