Prediction on temperature dependent elastic constants of “soft” metal Al by AIMD and QHA

First-principles methods based on density functional theory(DFT)are nowadays routinely applied to calculate the elastic constants of materials at temperature of 0 ***,the first-principles calculations of elastic constants at finite temperature are not *** the present work,the feasibility of the ab initio molecular dynamic(AIMD)method in calculations of the temperature dependent elastic constants of relatively"soft"metals,taking face centered cubic(FCC)aluminum(Al)as example,is *** AIMD calculations are performed with carefully selected strain tensors and strain *** parallel with the AIMD calculations,first-principles calculations with the quasiharmonic approximation(QHA)are performed as *** show that all three independent elastic constant components(C11,C12 and C44)of Al from both the AIMD and QHA calculations decrease with increasing temperature T,in good agreement with those from experimental *** work allows us to quantify the individual contributions of the volume expansion,lattice vibration(excluding those contributed to the volume expansion),and electronic temperature effects to the temperature induced variation of the elastic *** Al with stable FCC crystal structure,the volume expansion effect contributes the major part(about 75%~80%)in the temperature induced variation of the elastic *** contribution of the lattice vibration is minor(about 20%~25%)while the electronic temperature effect is *** the elastic constants soften with increasing temperature,FCC Al satisfies the Born elastic stability criteria with temperature up to the experimental melting point.

Genitourinary (GU) melanoma is a rare presentation of melanoma accounting for approximately 0.5% of all *** melanomas include primary melanomas of the vulva,vagina,uterine cervix,ovary,penis,scrotum,urethra,bladder,ureter,and *** melanomas are often diagnosed in advanced stages and stigma is thought to contribute to delays in *** the likely diagnosing provider,it is imperative that dermatologists,urologists,and gynecologists are aware of these uncommon sites of *** there have been major advances in the treatment of melanomas as a whole in the last 10 years,their applications to GU melanomas have often been *** melanomas have not been included in many of the major phase II clinical trials which brought contemporary advanced treatments to market and the prognoses for GU melanomas remain *** to the rarity of GU melanomas,much of the literature provides gener alized recommendations across multiple different organs affected by GU melanomas or omits certain topics,making it difficult to appreciate the funda-mentals of the individual *** review aimed to provide background information on the pathogenesis and epidemiology of the different sites of GU melanomas and categorize data specific to the presentation,staging,treatment,and prognosis of each type of GU melanoma to guide the *** was also meant to encourage a multidisciplinary approach to the management of these patients as it spans the expertise of surgical oncologists,medical oncologists,radiation oncologist,dermatologists,urologists,and gynecologists.

Changes in hydrometeorological characteristics and risks have been observed and are projected to increase under climate change. These considerations are scientifically well studied and led to the development of a complex policy framework for adaptation and mitigation for hydrometeorological risks. Awareness for policy actions is growing worldwide but no legal framework is in place to tackle climate change impacts on water at a global scale. With the example of international frameworks and the legislation on EU-level, this article elaborates that hydrometeorological risks are not considered in the framework of one single policy. However, various policy instruments are directly or indirectly considering these risks at different operational levels. It is discussed that a tailor-made framework for hydrometeorological risks would improve coordination at international or national level. A major drawback for a single operational framework is that hydrometeorological risks are scientifically tackled in two large communities: the disaster risk reduction community and the climate change adaptation community, both of which are bound to different research and operational funding budgets. In future, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation will need been seen as a complementary set of actions that requires collaboration.

We consider the relativistic Euler equations governing spherically symmetric,perfect fluid flows on the outer domain of communication of Schwarzschild spacetime,and we introduce a version of the finite volume method which is formulated from the geometric formulation(and thus takes the geometry into account at the discretization level)and is well-balanced,in the sense that it preserves steady solutions to the Euler equations on the curved geometry under *** order to formulate our method,we first derive a closed formula describing all steady and spherically symmetric solutions to the Euler equations posed on Schwarzschild ***,we describe a geometry-preserving,finite volume method which is based from the family of steady solutions to the Euler *** scheme is second-order accurate and,as required,preserves the family of steady solutions at the discrete *** experiments are presented which demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of the proposed method even for solutions containing shock waves and nonlinear interacting wave *** an application,we investigate the late-time asymptotics of perturbed steady solutions and demonstrate its convergence for late time toward another steady solution,taking the overall effect of the perturbation into account.

In framework of the fictitious domain methods with immersed interfaces for the elasticity problem,the present contribution is to study and numerically validate the jump-integrated boundary conditions method with sharp interface for the vector elasticity system discretized by a proposed finite volume *** main idea of the fictitious domain approach consists in embedding the original domain of study into a geometrically larger and simpler one called the fictitious ***,we present a cell-centered finite volume method to discretize the fictitious domain *** proposed method is numerically validated for different test *** work can be considered as a first step before more challenging problems such as fluid-structure interactions or moving interface problems.

After studying in a previous work the smoothness of the space UΓ0={u∈W1,p(·)(Ω);u=0 on Γ0 Γ=Ω},where dΓ-measΓ0>0,with p(·)∈C(Ω)and p(x)>1 for all x∈Ω,the authors study in this paper the strict and uniform convexity as well as some special properties of duality mappings defined on the same *** results obtained in this direction are used for proving existence results for operator equations having the form Ju=Nfu,where J is a duality mapping on UΓ0 corresponding to the gauge function,and Nf is the Nemytskij operator generated by a Carath′eodory function f satisfying an appropriate growth condition ensuring that Nf may be viewed as acting from UΓ0 into its dual.
