Influence of structural depth of laser-patterned steel surfaces on the solid lubricity of carbon nanoparticle coatings

Carbon nanoparticle coatings on laser-patterned stainless-steel surfaces present a solid lubrication system where the pattern's recessions act as lubricant-retaining *** study investigates the influence of the structural depth of line patterns coated with multi-walled carbon nanotubes(CNTs)and carbon onions(COs)on their respective potential to reduce friction and *** laser interference patterning(DLIP)with a pulse duration of 12 ps is used to create line patterns with three different structural depths at a periodicity of 3.5μm on AISI 304 steel ***,electrophoretic deposition(EPD)is applied to form homogeneous carbon nanoparticle coatings on the patterned *** ball-on-disc experiments are conducted on the as-described surfaces with an alumina counter body at a load of 100 *** results show that the shallower the coated structure,the lower its coefficient of friction(COF),regardless of the particle ***,with a minimum of just below 0.20,CNTs reach lower COF values than COs over most of the testing *** resulting wear tracks are characterized by scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,and energy-dispersive X-ray *** friction testing,the CNTs remain in contact,and the immediate proximity,whereas the CO coating is largely *** of structural depth,no oxidation occurs on CNT-coated surfaces,whereas minor oxidation is detected on CO-coated wear tracks.

Objective Here, we explored molecular changes that could potentially mediate healing effects of Gua Sha — a method employed by the Chinese traditional medicine with proven track records of safe and efficient applications dating back to ancient times as well as support from randomized controlled trials performed by modern medical studies — yet remaining almost entirely unexplored by the modern-day high-throughput methods of the-omics *** We investigated transcriptome changes occurring shortly after Gua Sha treatment in the whole blood of healthy volunteers using bulk RNA-seq analysis. We applied various analytical tools to identify genes with consistent expression changes in multiple individuals in response to Gua Sha and their *** We found that while the changes were very subtle and individual-specific, we could identify consistent upregulation of three histone genes. Pathogen detection in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma:Implications for targeted perioperative antibiotic therapy

Osteosarcoma is one of the most common cancers in young adults and is commonly treated using surgery and *** the past years,these therapy approaches improved but failed to ameliorate the ***,novel,targeted therapeutic approaches should be established to enhance treatment success while preserving patient’s quality of *** studies suggest the application of degradable magnesium(Mg)alloys as orthopedic implants bearing a potential antitumor ***,we examined the influence of Mg-based materials on an osteosarcoma-fibroblast ***,Mg and Mg-6Ag did not lead to tumor cell apoptosis at low degradation ***,the Mg-based materials induced cellular dormancy in the cancer cells indicated by a lower number of Ki-67 positive cancer cells and a higher p38 *** dormancy-like state could be reversed by reseeding on non-degrading glass slides but could not be provoked by inhibition of the protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum *** investigating the influence of the disjunct surface-near effects of the Mg degradation on cell proliferation,an increased pH was found to be a main initiator of Mg degradation-dependent tumor cell proliferation inhibition.

With the growing importance of the black soldier fly(Hermetia illucens)for both sustainable food production and waste management as well as for science,a great demand of understanding its immune system ***,we present the first description of the circulating larval hemocytes with special emphasis on uptake of microorganisms and distinguishing hemocyte *** histological,zymographic,and cytometric methods and with a set of hemocyte binding lectins and antibodies,the hemocytes of *** are identified as plasmatocytes,crystal cells,and putative *** hemocyte counts(THC)are determined,and methods for THC determination are *** 1100 hemocytes per microliter hemolymph are present in naive animals,while hemocyte density decreases dramatically shortly after wounding,indicating a role of hemocytes in response to wounding(and immune response in general).The determination of the relative abundance of each hemocyte type(differential hemocyte count,DHC)revealed that plasmatocytes are highly abundant,whereas prohemocytes and crystal cells make up only a small percentage of the circulating *** are not only the most abundant but also the professional phagocytes in *** rapidly engulf and take up bacteria both in vivo and in vitro,indicating a very potent cellular defense against invading *** bioparticles such as yeasts are also removed from circulation by phagocytosis,but slower than *** is the first analysis of the potent cellular immune response in the black soldier fly,and a first toolbox that helps to identify hemocyte(types)is presented.

Degradation of 3D-printed magnesium phosphate ceramics in vitro and a prognosis on their bone regeneration potential

Mode structure symmetry breaking of reversed shear Alfvén eigenmodes and its impact on the generation of parallel velocity asymmetries in energetic particle distribution

In this work,the gyrokinetic eigenvalue code LIGKA,the drift-kinetic/MHD hybrid code HMGC and the gyrokinetic full-f code TRIMEG-GKX are employed to study the mode structure details of reversed shear Alfvén eigenmodes(RSAEs).Using the parameters from an ASDEXUpgrade plasma,a benchmark with the three different physical models for RSAE without and with energetic particles(EPs)is carried *** agreement has been found for the mode frequency and the growth *** structure symmetry breaking(MSSB)is observed when EPs are included,due to the EPs’non-perturbative *** is found that the MSSB properties are featured by a finite radial wave phase velocity,and the linear mode structure can be well described by an analytical complex Gaussian expressionФ(s)=e^(-σ(s-s_(0))^(2))with complex parametersσand s_(0),where s is the normalized radial *** mode structure is distorted in opposite manners when the EP drive shifted from one side of qminto the other side,and specifically,a non-zero average radial wave number with opposite signs is *** initial EP density profiles and the corresponding mode structures have been used as the input of HAGIS code to study the EP *** parallel velocity of EPs is generated in opposite directions,due to different values of the average radial wave number,corresponding to different initial EP density profiles with EP drive shifted away from the qmin.

Liver transplantation for malignant liver tumors

Liver transplantation is a highly effective treatment not only for acute or chronic liver failure but also for primary liver cancer such as hepatocellular carcinoma,perihilar cholangiocarcinoma,intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma,and metastatic tumors such as from neuroendocrine or colorectal liver *** success strongly relies on strict adherence to stringent selection criteria,which lead to excellent outcomes,while previously regarded as contraindication for liver *** impressive results are,however,mostly achieved with a combination of pretreatment strategies and convincing control of the tumor growth prior to transplantation,as well as minimizing long-term *** this emergence of oncologic liver transplantation,we expect an increasing need of grafts,and therefore included in this report strategies to improve the number of available grafts by maximizing liver utilization *** machine liver perfusion approaches may play in this respect an important role.
