Objective:To determine the new M-superfamily conotoxins from molluscivorous snail Conus bandanus in ***:Conus bandanus venom was fractionated and purified on HPLC system with an analytical reversed-phase C18 column in order to screen small *** primary structure of peptide was analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight tandem mass spectrometry using collision-induced dissociation and confirmed by Edman’s degradation ***:Five new conotoxins were biochemically characterized from the crude venom of the mollusk-hunting cone snail Conus bandanus,which were collected at Ke Ga reef of the Nha Trang Bay(Vietnam).Each conotoxin had 15 or 16 amino acid residues and shared the same characteristic cysteine framework V as–CC–C–C–CC–.They were termed as Bn3 b,Bn3 c,Bn3 d,Bn3 e and Bn3 f following the conotoxins ***:The conotoxins Bn3 b,Bn3 e,and Bn3 f are categorized in the mini-M conotoxins of the M1 branch,while conotoxins Bn3 c and Bn3 d are categorized in the mini-M conotoxins of the M2 *** homological analysis reveals that these conotoxins could serve as promising probe compounds for voltage-gated sodium channels.

Importance:Nutritional status of infants,measured by birth weight and length,is an essential factor in neonatal *** in newborns may lead to a higher risk of mortality,neurological and cognitive impairment,and poor language ***:this study aims to assess the nutritional status of infants and related factors regarding maternal anthropometric characteristics and medical ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology,Vietnam from May 2021 to May 2022 on 340 infants and *** birth weight was defined following the Intergrowth-21 *** was evaluated using the Fenton growth chart when the length was below the 10%percentile line of the gestational *** regression models were applied to identify factors associated with the nutritional status of ***:We found that 12.4%and 14.1%of infants in our study fell into stunted and underweight categories,*** of mothers over 35 years old,having a height lower than 150 cm or experiencing anemia during pregnancy were more likely to be stunted or have low birth *** albumin deficiency during pregnancy was strongly associated with the infant being underweight(odds ratio[OR]=2.8,95%confidence interval[95%CI]1.1–7.3).Newborns were more likely to be stunted if their mothers had a history of preterm birth(OR=3.3,95%CI 1.1–10.2).Interpretation:Maternal nutritional status is closely related to infant malnutrition,particularly in preterm *** the understanding of mothers regarding prenatal care,reproductive healthcare,adequate nutritional diet,and multi-micronutrient supplements during pregnancy is therefore important.

Our aim was to evaluate the quality of ejaculated and epididymal frozen-thawed pig sperm of endangered Vietnam native pig breeds. Ejaculated sperm was collected from live boars and epididymal sperm was collected from slaughtered boars of the MuongTe, Kieng Sat and Co BinhThuan breeds and frozen in 0.25 ml straws using a protocol established earlier for modern pig breeds. We evaluated the sperm quality after thawing in terms of motility and rates of viable and abnormal spermatozoa. Our results revealed that the sperm motility and rates of viable and abnormal frozen-thawed sperm were >30%, >44%, and 0.05). In the Co BinhThuan breed, the rate of pregnancy of ejaculated groups was similar to that of the epididymal group. In conclusion, the ejaculated and epididymal sperm of native Vietnamese pigs were successfully frozen. We succeeded in creating embryos in vitro and pregnant pigs after artificial insemination from frozen-thawed semen in three native Vietnamese pig breeds for the first time. The use of the ejaculated sperm improved the production of native pig embryos in vitro efficiency.

A study of coral reef resilience and implications of adaptive management and rehabilitation in khanh Hoa Province,Vietnam

The Province of khanh Hoa, Vietnam, is located in the western South China Sea and boasts a shoreline of 385 km and many islands. Previous studies have indicated the extreme diversity and abundance of coral reefs in its waters as compared with other coastal provinces of Vietnam. A study on the resilience of coral reefs against increased surface water temperature and anthropogenic impact is conducted at 19 reef sites in 2015. At each site, a series of parameters(e.g., coral covers, genus diversity, and coral recruitment, substratum heterogeneity, depth, water exchange level, and sediment deposit and water temperature) are measured quantitatively or *** measured data are rated based on the relationship between the parameter values and coral susceptibility; the consideration that reef health reflects the biological capability to adapt to environmental changes and the recruitment potential if bleached; and positive or negative influences of physical factors in the mitigation of thermal stress and protecting corals from bleaching. A cumulative analysis enables researchers to divide the studied reefs into four categories based on varying levels of reef health to support resilience, recovery, and vulnerability in the case of increased water temperature. Relevant management interventions for each category and other supporting activities are suggested to enhance management effectiveness and to plan the rehabilitation of coral reefs for biodiversity conservation and touristic development, taking into account the involvement of related stakeholders.

The main objective of the study was to determine the effects of nutritional media and initial cell density on the growth and development of Spirulina *** study was carried out at the Center for Incubation and Technology Transfer,Hue University from May 2015 to August *** the first experiment,*** was cultured in four different nutritional media,including Zarrouk,Spi-RIA3,Nisole and Thuoc medium(Vietnamese).Resulted showed that *** grew significantly in the Zarrouk medium rather than in other nutritional medium at the same time,and gained the maximum density of 2,736.5 mg/L after 13 d inoculums,with specific growth rate of 4.987%per day and the time to doubling population of 0.139 *** the second experiment,*** was cultured in six different initial cell densities:100,400,700,1,000,1,300 and 1,600 mg/L,and the optimum nutritional medium was Zarrouk medium selected from experiment *** showed at the initial culture density of 400 mg/L,the highest biomass was gained with the maximum density of 3,071.2 mg/L after 21 d inoculums,with specific growth rate of 9.15%per day and time to double population of 0.076 *** biomass from culture in Zarrouk medium at initial cell density 400 mg/L obtained total protein of 51.98%,total lipid of 1.75%,total carbohydrate of 0.75%,carotene of 0.36%and total minerals of 5.2%,on a basis of dry matter.

Aim:Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are an excellent potential source of cells for bone tissue engineering due to their excellent renewal ability and osteogenic differentiation *** study was designed to evaluate the bone formation properties of a demineralized cancellous bone scaffold seeded with MSCs,with or without periosteum,in a critical size bone defect model in ***:Rabbit culture-expanded bone marrow(BM)-MSCs were seeded onto a human demineralized cancellous bone(HDCB)*** defects measuring 15 mm in length were created in each radius.A total of 56 bone defects in 28 rabbits were randomly assigned to one of the 4 groups for scaffold implantation:Group 1:HDCB graft only;Group 2:periosteum-wrapped HDCB graft;Group 3:HDCB graft seeded with BM-MSCs and Group 4:periosteum-wrapped HDCB graft seeded with *** rabbits were sacrificed 12 weeks after surgery for gross observation,radiological assessment,histological analyses and biomechanical ***:New bone(NB)formation and bone healing were successfully achieved,both radiologically and histologically,on demineralized cancellous bone graft seeded with *** were improved when BM-MSCs were associated with ***:this study demonstrates that repair of bone defects in a rabbit model can be achieved through bone grafting using BM-MSCs,implanted on a demineralized cancellous bone *** formation of NB was optimized when combined with the preservation of periosteum at the site of injury.
