ApoB-containing lipoproteins promote infectivity of chlamydial species in human hepatoma cell line

AIM:To evaluate the direct binding of two main chlamydial biovars(*** and ***) to plasma lipoproteins and its effect on chlamydial infection rate in human hepatoma cell line(HepG2 cells). METHODS:Murine plasma lipoproteins were fractionated and isolated using fast-performance liquid chromatography(FPLC),spotted on nitrocellulose membrane and incubated with chlamydial suspensions. Direct binding of chlamydial particles to lipoprotein fractions has been studied using lipopolysaccharide-specific antibodies in immuno-dot blot binding assay and immunoprecipitation *** protocol as well as flow cytometry analysis have been employed to study the infectivity rate of chlamydial species in HepG2 cells. RESULTS:Elementary bodies of both *** and *** bind ApoB-containing fractions of plasma *** binding becomes stronger when heat-denatured FPLC fractions are used, suggesting a primary role of apolipoproteins in interaction between chlamydial particle and lipoprotein. Both chlamydial biovars efficiently propagate in human hepatoma cell line-HepG2 cells even in serum free conditions forming late-stage inclusion bodies and releasing extracellular elementary *** of *** and *** with native ApoB-containing lipoproteins enhances the rate of chlamydial infection in HepG2 ***:A productive infection caused by C. trachomatis and *** may take place in human-derived hepatocytes revealing hepatic cells as possible target in chlamydial *** results may suggest the participation of lipoprotein receptors in the mechanism of attachment and/or entry of chlamydial particles into target cells.

Antibacterial properties of lucifensin in Lucilia sericata maggots after septic injury

Objective:To investigate the antibacterial properties of lucifensin in maggots of IjicUia sericala after septic ***:In our preliminary study we have shown that injuring the maggots with a needle soaked in lipopolysaccharide solution induced within 24 h lucifensin expression in the fat body and in the grease coupler of the salivary *** is assumed that lucifensin is secreted solely from this tissue into the haemoiymph(similar to other insect defensins) and not into secreted/excreted *** used high-performance liquid chromatography fractionation and radial diffusion assay to investigate the antibacterial properties of haemoiymph extracted from larvae after septic ***:After septic injury,production of lucifensin in the haemoiymph is *** led to higher antibacterial activity of such haemoiymph in comparison to non-stimulated ***:These results suggest that beside the previously demonstrated role of lucifensin in the debridement therapy,lucifensin is simultaneously important as a part of the systematic immune response.

Three-dimensional geovisualizations are currently pushed both by technological development and by the demands of experts in various applied *** the presented empirical study,we compared the features of real 3D(stereoscopic)versus pseudo 3D(monoscopic)geovisualizations in static and interactive digital elevation *** tested 39 high-school students in their ability to identify the correct terrain profile from digital elevation ***’performance was recorded and further analysed with respect to their spatial abilities,which were measured by a psychological mental rotation test and think aloud *** results of the study indicated that the influence of the type of 3D visualization(monoscopic/stereoscopic)on the performance of the users is not clear,the level of navigational interactivity has significant influence on the usability of a particular 3D visualization,and finally no influences of the spatial abilities on the performance of the user within the 3D environment were identified.

A new endophytic insect-associated Daldinia species, recognised from a comparison of secondary metabolite profiles and molecular phylogeny

Xylariaceous endophytes are commonly encountered in plants,and it has recently been found out that insect vectors play a major role in their life cycle,as well as in the apparent host-specificity of the fungal *** this study,a new insect-associated,endophytic anamorph species of Daldinia is recognised from a comparison of (a)morphological and ecological data;(b)molecular phylogenetic data based on rDNA,alpha-actin and beta-tubulin genes;and (c)secondary metabolite profiles based on high performance liquid chromatography/diode array/mass spectrometry(HPLC-DAD/MS)and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(GC-MS)in comparison with authentic strains of Daldinia and other *** new species,Daldinia hawksworthii,is a symbiont of the willow woodwasp,Xiphydria prolongata,which is in turn preferentially associated with Salix.A comparison of HPLCDAD/MS profiles from standardised cultures revealed the presence of a specific compound,which was not encountered in any of the ca.250 Daldinia strains studied for *** compound was isolated after fermentation of the fungus in 10 l scale by preparative *** elucidation by NMR spectroscopy revealed a novel pyrone,for which the name dalsymbiopyrone is *** compound showed weak antimicrobial and cytotoxic effects and might be a signal molecule involved in the trilateral ecological interaction between the host plant,the insect,and its fungal symbiont.

The power conversion efficiencies(PCEs)of single-junction organic solar cells(OSCs)have surpassed 19%,owing to the emerging Y-series nonfullerene acceptors(NFAs).Undoubtedly,the power and flexibility of chemical design has been a strong driver for this rapid efficiency improvement in the OSC *** the course of the past 3 years,a variety of modifications have been made to the structure of the Y6 acceptor,and a large number of Y-series NFAs have been reported to further improve ***,we present our insights into the rationale behind the Y6 acceptor and discuss the design principles toward high-performance Y-series *** is clear that structural modifications through choice of heteroatom,soluble chains,πspacers,central cores,and end groups alter the material characteristics and properties,contributing to distinctive photovoltaic ***,we analyze various design strategies of Y-series-containing materials,including polymerized small-molecule acceptors(PSMA),non-fused-ring acceptors(NFRA),and all-fused-ring acceptors(AFRA).This review is expected to be of value in providing effective molecular design strategies for high-performance NFAs in future innovations.

The deep-level traps induced by charged defects at the grain boundaries(GBs)of polycrystalline organic-inorganic halide perovskite(OIHP)films serve as major recombination centres,which limit the device ***,we incorporate specially designed poly(3-aminothiophenol)-coated gold(Au@PAT)nanoparticles into the perovskite absorber,in order to examine the influence of plasmonic resonance on carrier dynamics in perovskite solar *** changes in the photophysical properties of the OIHP films reveal that plasmon excitation could fill trap sites at the GB region through photo-brightening,whereas transient absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations correlate this photo-brightening of trap states with plasmon-induced interfacial *** a result,the device achieved the best efficiency of 22.0%with robust operational *** work provides unambiguous evidence for plasmon-induced trap occupation in OIHP and reveals that plasmonic nanostructures may be one type of efficient additives to overcome the recombination losses in perovskite solar cells and thin-film solar cells in general.

The Compound Spectral Indices of Human Stress

Temporally fine-grained and objective measures of mental states or their surrogate states are desperately needed in clinical psychiatry. Stress, both acute and especially chronic stress, is an important mental and physiological state observed in many mental disorders. It is a potential precipitant of acute psychiatric decompensations, be they anxious, affective, psychotic, or behavioural. Thus, being able to objectively follow stress or its surrogate parameters over time in a clinician-friendly way would help predict and prevent decompensations and monitor subsequent treatment success. Thus, we introduce the Compound Spectral Stress Indices (CSSI) that are derived from sensing data of various physiological and physiological and behavioural parameters we use as surrogate stress measures. To obtain the CSSI we use a hierarchical approach provided by adaptability, congruency and derived stress coefficient matrices. Adaptability is defined as a macroscopic characterisation of physiological and physiological and behavioural performance constructed as a product of the total variation of time-segmented complexity indices multiplied by the frequency of the time-varying distribution of complexity indices of the measured physiological or physiological and behavioural parameters, where complexity is expressed in terms of the Hurst exponent. Congruency is expressed by a constant characterising a demand-resource balance and it is then expressed in the form of a stress coefficient matrix. The CSSI is given by the spectral distance of the stress coefficient matrices from the ideal demand-resource matrix.
