Impact of Annealing on the Melt Recrystallization of a-PDLA/α-PLLA Double-layered Films

Poly(lactic acid)(PLA) as a bio-based polymer with biodegradability and biocompatibility has attracted much attention. To manipulate its properties for different applications, regulation of crystal structure and crystalline morphology becomes an attractive research topic. In this work, the structure evolution of layered samples containing an amorphous poly(D-lactide)(PDLA) layer and a crystalline poly(L-lactide)(PLLA)layer with highly oriented edge-on α lamellar crystals after annealing at 150 ℃ or/and after melt-recrystallization has been studied by AFM, FTIR,and TEM combined with electron diffraction. The results demonstrate that melt recrystallization of the as-prepared sample leads to the formation of abundant randomly oriented PLA stereo-complex(PLA SC) crystals. Annealing at 150 ℃ results in the formation of a small amount of oriented PLA SC crystals at the interface. These PLA SC crystals show great impact on the recrystallization behavior of sample after melting at 190 ℃ and then crystallizing at 90 ℃. First, they impede the mutual diffusion of the overlying PDLA and underlying PLLA, and thus reduce their stereocomplexation ability as manifested by the decreased amount of PLA SC crystals. Second, they act as substrate to initiate the epitaxial crystallization of the overlying PDLA and underlying PLLA, which ensures the production of a highly oriented structure of PDLA and PLLA after melt recrystallization again.

XPS analysis and combustibility of residues from two coals extraction with sub-and supercritical water

Two kinds of residues,obtained from extraction of one weakly reductive coal,Shenfu-Dongsheng coal(SD),and one reductive coal,Pingshuo coal(PS),with sub-and supercritical water on a semi-continuous apparatus,were characterized by calorific value analysis and XPS analysis,and the combustion behaviors of residues were investigated by thermogravimetric *** results show that the residues have higher calorific value than raw coal samples,and SD residue has higher calorific value than PS residue.C-C,C-O and pyridinic nitrogen,pyrrolic nitrogen are the dominant form of C,O and N on the surface of raw coal samples and their extraction *** combustion behaviors of extraction residues show that the SD residue is more reactive and more easily burned than PS residue.

Engineering catalytic defects via molecular imprinting for high energy li-S pouch cells

Heterogeneous catalysis promises to accelerate sulfur-involved conversion reactions in lithium-sulfur batteries. Solid-state li2S dissociation remains as the rate-limiting step because of the weakly matched solid-solid electrocatalysis interfaces. We propose an electrochemically molecular-imprinting strategy to have a metal sulfide（MS） catalyst with imprinted defects in positions from which the pre-implanted li2S has been electrochemically removed. Such tailor-made defects enable the catalyst to bind exclusively to li atoms in li2S reactant and elongate the li–S bond, thus decreasing the reaction energy barrier during charging. The imprinted Ni3S2catalyst shows the best activity due to the highest defect concentration among the MS catalysts examined. The li2S oxidation potential is substantially reduced to 2.34 V from 2.96 V for the counterpart free of imprinted vacancies, and an Ah-level pouch cell is realized with excellent cycling performance. With a lean electrolyte/sulfur ratio of 1.80 μL mgS–1, the cell achieves a benchmarkedly high energy density beyond 500 Wh kg–1.

Effects of climate change on phenology and primary productivity in the desert steppe of Inner Mongolia

Variations in temperature and precipitation affect local ecosystems. Considerable spatial and temporal heterogeneity exists in arid ecosystems such as desert steppes. In this study, we analyzed the spatiotemporal dy- namics of climate and vegetation phenology in the desert steppe of Inner Mongolia, China using meteorological data （1961-2010） from 11 stations and phenology data （2004-2012） from 6 ecological observation stations. We also estimated the gross primary production for the period of 1982-2009 and found that the annual mean tem- perature increased at a rate of 0.47~C/decade during 1961-2010, with the last 10 years being consistently warmer than the 50 years as an average. The most significant warming occurred in winters. Annual precipitation slightly decreased during the 50-year period, with summer precipitation experiencing the highest drop in the last 10 years, and spring precipitation, a rise. Spatially, annual precipitation increased significantly in the northeastern and eastern central areas next to the typical steppe. From 2004 to 2012, vegetation green-up and senescence date advanced in the study area, shortening the growing season. Consequently, the primary productivity of the desert steppe de- creased along the precipitation gradient from southeast to northwest. Temporally, productivity increased during the period of 1982-1999 and significantly decreased after 2000. Overall, the Last decade witnessed the most dramatic climatic changes that were likely to negatively affect the desert steppe ecosystem. The decreased primary produc- tivity, in particular, decreases ecosystem resilience and impairs the livelihood of local farmers and herdsmen.

Microcavity photon dynamics in curved space is an emerging interesting area at the crossing point of nanophotonics,chaotic science,and non-Euclidean *** report the sharp difference between the regular and chaotic motions of cavity photons subjected to the varying space *** the island modes of regular motion rise in the phase diagram in the curved space,the chaotic modes show special mechanisms to adapt to the space curvature,including the fast diffusion of ray dynamics,and the localization and hybridization of the Husimi wavepackets among different periodic *** observations are unique effects enabled by the combination of the chaotic trajectory,the wave nature of light,and the non-Euclidean orbital motion,and therefore make the system a versatile optical simulator for chaotic science under quantum mechanics in curved space-time.

Universal paradigm of ternary metacomposites with tunable epsilon-negative and epsilon-near-zero response for perfect electromagnetic shielding

Enrichment of Chemical Element ^(7)li in the Rotating Red Clump Star

About 2 percent of red clump stars are found to be the lithium-rich and thus the surface lithium increases obviously in some red clump *** physical mechanism of the lithium enrichment in these stars has not yet been explained satisfactorily by the evolutionary models of single *** flash induced internal gravity wave mixing(i.e.,IGW)could play a primary role in explaining the red clump star with lithium enrichment and it has a very significant impact on the internal structure and surface compositions of a *** can significantly increase the mixing efficiency of the internal gravity wave because the timescale for the enrichment event has been *** mixing can explain the observed behavior of lithium on red giant stars that are more luminosity than the RGB ***,it has a very small effect on the diffusion of elements because its diffusion coefficient is much smaller than the one of IGW induced mixing after the core helium flash.
