Effec.s of the mass and volume shrinkage of ground c.ip and pellet partic.es on drying rates

The effec.s of varying the mass and volume of ground c.ip and pellet partic.es on the partic.e drying rate were analyzed. Samples of whole pellets and c.ips were hammer milled using a 3.2 mm sc.een and the ground c.ip and pellet partic.es were found to have similar size distributions, although the pellet partic.es were denser and more spheric.l than the c.ip partic.es. Prior to drying, water was added to the partic.es to obtain 0.10, 0.30, 0.50, 0.70, and 0.90 moisture c.ntents （on a dry mass basis）. The moistened partic.es were subsequently dried in a c.nstant temperature thin layer dryer set at 50,100, 150, or 200 ~c.under dry pure nitrogen, dry c.mpressed air, or atmospheric.air. The c.ip and pellet partic.es exhibited similar degrees of shrinkage, but the pellet partic.es underwent a greater reduc.ion in their bulk volume during drying. It appears that the more spheric.l pellet partic.es are prone to shrinkage in more than one direc.ion, whereas the needle-like c.ip partic.e shrink only in one direc.ion. A variable radius first order drying model was found to fit the experimental data better than a fixed radius model.

We present sec.nd-order expressions for the free-surfac. elevation, veloc.ty potential and pressure resulting from the interac.ion of surfac. waves in water of arbitrary depth. When the surfac. waves have nearly equal frequenc.es and nearly opposite direc.ions, a sec.nd-order pressure c.n be felt all the way to the sea bottom. There are at least two areas of applic.tions： reflec.ive struc.ures and mic.oseisms. Mic.oseisms generated by water waves in the oc.an are small vibrations of the ground resulting from pressure osc.llations assoc.ated with the c.upling of oc.an surfac. gravity waves and the sea floor. They are rec.rded on land-based seismic.stations throughout the world and they are divided into primary and sec.ndary types, as a func.ion of spec.ral c.ntent. Sec.ndary mic.oseisms are generated by the interac.ion of surfac. waves with nearly equal frequenc.es and nearly opposite direc.ions. The effic.enc. of mic.oseism generation thus depends in part on oc.an wave frequenc. and direc.ion. Based on the sec.nd-order expressions for the dynamic.pressure, a simple theoretic.l analysis that quantifies the degree of nearness in amplitude, frequenc., and inc.denc. angle, whic. must be reac.ed to observe the phenomenon, is presented.

Lump lime as a fiux material in a basic.oxygen furnac. （BOF） often c.eates problems in operation due to its high melting point, poor dissolution property, hygrosc.pic.nature, and fines generation tendenc.. To alleviate these problems, fluxed lime iron oxide pellets （FLIP） c.ntaining 30% c.O were developed in this study using waste iron oxide fines and lime. The suitable handling strengths of the pellet （c.ushing strength： 300 N; drop strength： 130 times） of FLIP were developed by treating with c.2 or industrial waste gas at room temperature, while no separate binders were used. When the pellet was added into hot metal bath （c.rbon-c.ntaining molten iron）, it was dec.mposed, melted, and transformed to produc. low melting oxidizing slag, bec.use it is a c.mbination of main c.O and Fe2O3. This slag is suitable for fac.litating P and c.removal in refining. Furthermore, the pellet enhanc.s waste utilization and use of c.2 in waste gas. In this artic.e, emphasis is given on studying the behavior of these pellets in hot metal bath during melting and refining along with thermodynamic. and kinetic. analysis. The observed behaviors of the pellet in hot metal bath c.nfirm that it is suitable and benefic.al for use in BOF and replac.s lump lime.

A c.eaner and ec.-friendly method was developed for the preparation of tetrakis(aminomethyl)c.lix-[4]-resorc.narene via a synthetic.pathway of five steps starting from methylresorc.nol. This alternative methodology is firstly based on avoiding the use of c.2Brc., whic. is a non-ec.-friendly substanc. with high ozone depletion potential, and on replac.ng it by c.2c.2 as a readily available reagent with muc. less dangerous effec.s. Sec.ndly, this method engages ac.tone or c.2c.2 as the solvent of the bromination step in the plac. of the very toxic.c.l4, leading to tetrakis(bromomethyl)c.lix-[4]-resorc.narene. The brominated intermediate has been reac.ed with sodium azide in ac.tone instead of the high-boiling solvent DMSO to produc. tetrakis(azidomethyl) c.lix-[4]-resorc.narene without the need of tedious purific.tion. Lastly, this work reports an effic.ent hydrogenation method of the versatile azido adduc. employing Pt/c.(5%) as the c.talyst for the preparation of the amino c.vitand as an alternative route with high atom ec.nomy that c.n replac. the c.assic.l methods used c.rrently.

The investigation was c.rried out with altogether 332 growing rabbits （ZIKA） in six rounds of 8 weeks duration respec.ively （R1-R6） with the following oc.upational objec.s： wooden gnawing stic. （WGS）, plastic.gnawing stic. （PGS） and two iron c.ains c.nnec.ed by a horizontal stic. （Ic.）, wooden gnawing limb （WGL） and a horizontal iron c.ain （HIc.. The feeding system varied from pellet feeding ad libitum （in the first rounds, in the following rounds it dec.eased pro-rata whereas the proportion of the c.ude fibre feed （loose or pressed in bloc.s） inc.eased appropriately） to c.ude fibre feeding ad libitum. The behavior ＂oc.upation with the tool＂ was infrared video rec.rded and c.ntinuously analyzed and summarized in hour-values per rabbit. The average frequenc. of oc.upation per rabbit and hour ranged from 0,13 to 2.19 c.nc.rning the rounds and between 0.12 and 1,30 c.nc.rning the tools. Altogether, it c.uld be assumed that different oc.upational tools had an influenc. on the engaging behavior but the effec. of the round whic. was affec.ed by the feeding system was higher. The investigation showed that rabbits spent less time oc.upying with the tool when they were fed with an inc.easing perc.ntage of c.ude fibre （less pellets） in the ration.

The 14 MeV neutrons produc.d in the D-T fusion reac.ions have the potential of breeding Uranium-233 fissile fuel from fertile material Thorium-232. In order to estimate the amount of U-233 produc.d, experiments are c.rried out by irradiating thorium dioxide pellets with neutrons produc.d from a 14 MeV neutron generator. The objec.ive of the present work is to measure the reac.ion rates of 232Th ＋ in --＊ 233Th --＊ 2a^Pa --＊ 2a3U in different pellet thic.nesses to study the self-shielding effec.s and adopt a proc.dure for c.rrec.ion. An appropriate assembly c.nsisting of high-density polyethylene is designed and fabric.ted to slow down the high-energy neutrons, in whic. Thorium pellets are irradiated. The amount of fissile fuel （~3~U） produc.d is estimated by measuring the 312 keV gammas emitted by Protac.inium-233 （half-life of 27 days）. A c.librated High Purity Germanium （HPGe） detec.or is used to measure the gamma ray spec.rum. The amount of 233U produc.d by Th232 （n, ~） is c.lc.lated using Mc.P c.de. The self-shielding effec. is evaluated by c.lc.lating the reac.ion rates for different foil thic.ness. Mc.P c.lc.lation results are c.mpared with the experimental values and appropriate c.rrec.ion fac.ors are estimated for self-shielding of neutrons and absorption of gamma rays.

富含α—亚麻酸的菜油加热时易氧化。低亚麻酸含量的油菜新品种,不同地方和不同年份的含量变化从1.5%到4.5%。据Everard（2004）,当c.8:3含量达到2.5%阀值以上时,菜油加热过程中会出现典型难闻气味。因此,对亚麻酸含量变异性的理解有利于生产出合适的菜油品质。脂肪酸组分受基因、气候条件,特别是温度的影响。然而,作物管理也是很关键的。因为同一栽培种的邻近地存在差异,尽管它们有类似气候和基因型背景。2004年,在瑞士c.angins实验站的试验证明,播种密度,施硫肥,昆虫、害虫控制对脂肪酸组分没有影响。在区试实验中,施高水平的氮肥和硫肥和粗放的作物管理措施及有限的植物保护,亚麻酸的含量只有稍微增加。氮肥影响含油量,但对脂肪酸组分影响不明显。2004年,品种（MSP01）似乎对氮肥很敏感,在高施肥条件下,亚麻酸含量提高。而当氮肥在90,130和170kgN·ha,Splendor没有明显差异。2005年在c.angins实验站的不同作物管理试验数据表明,油品质的几个参数之间（油和蛋白质含量,油酸和亚麻酸含量）呈有趣的关联。油和蛋白质含量高度负相关（r2=-0.96）,并且都仅部分解释亚麻酸的含量的变异性。其与蛋白质和油含量的相关系数分别为r=0.34和r=-0.42。作物管理技巧对油和蛋白质含量的影响对传统油菜品种已有广泛研究,其结论似乎也对低亚麻酸品种适用。因此,一定条件下,用适当的氮肥调节亚麻酸含量也是可能的。因此这是一种增加菜籽油含量的方法。

Small pellet boilers（P ＜ 70 k W） are c.nsidered as an established and widely spread tec.nology for the heating of private dwellings and small c.mmerc.al buildings. They are c.arac.erised by high thermal effic.enc. and are well suited for c.mbination with solar c.llec.or systems. The performanc. of suc. dual heat sourc. systems is however highly depending on the hydraulic.sc.eme and the c.ntrolling strategy. For getting a better view on the parameters, whic. influenc. the performanc. of pellet boiler based heating systems, EIFER has been c.rrying out on-site monitoring of 9 small pellet boilers sinc. 2 years. The objec.ive is to obtain a c.mplete annual energy balanc. of the heating systems, as well as c.ntinuous values for the parameters influenc.ng the performanc.. The boilers are installed mainly in private houses in the south-western part of Germany.

Granular mixtures made of high-density pellets of bentonite are being evaluated as an alternative buffer material for waste isolation. Ease of handling is an often-mentioned advantage. The paper desc.ibes the experimental program performed to c.arac.erize the hydro-mec.anic.l （HM） behaviour of c.mpac.ed pellet mixtures. Grain size distribution was adjusted to a maximum pellet size c.mpatible with the spec.men＇s dimensions. Dry densities of static.lly c.mpac.ed spec.mens varied in most of the c.ses in the range from 1.3 to 1.5 Mg/m^3. pellets had a very high dry density, c.ose to 2 Mg/m^3. The outstanding c.arac.eristic.of these mixtures is their disc.ntinuous porosity. Pore sizes of the c.mpac.ed pellets varied around 10 nm. However, the inter-pellet size of the pores was four to five orders of magnitude higher. This double porosity and the highly expansive nature of the pellets c.ntrolled all the hydraulic.and mec.anic.l properties of the mixture. Performed tests inc.ude infiltration tests using different water injec.ion rates and mec.anisms of water transfer （in liquid and vapour phases）, suc.ion-c.ntrolled oedometer tests and swelling pressure tests. The interpretation of some performed tests required bac. analysis proc.dures using a hydro-mec.anic.l （HM） c.mputer c.de. Material response was studied within the framework of the elastoplastic.c.nstitutive model proposed by Alonso et al. （1990）（Barc.lona basic.model, BBM）. Parameters for the model were identified and also a set of hydraulic.laws are nec.ssary to perform c.upled HM analysis. A large sc.le in-situ test （the ＂EB＂ test in Mont Terri, Switzerland） was desc.ibed and analyzed. Roc. barrier parameters were adjusted on the basis of available tests. The test exc.vation, barrier emplac.ment and forc.d hydration were simulated by means of the c.DEBRIGHT program.
