Transf.rmations of.natural ecosystems in tropical regions, which are usually covered by high-biomass f.rests, contribute to increased atmospheric Co2. Much of.the carbon in f.rest ecosystems is stored in the soil. This study estimates soil carbon stock in a dense f.rest in central Amazonia f.om sets of.soil samples collected in three topographic positions (plateau, slope and valley bottom). Soil organic matter (SoM) was f.actionated by density and particle size, thus obtaining the f.ee light f.action (f.f., intra-aggregated light f.action (IALf., sand f.action (f.sand), clay f.action (f.clay) and silt f.action (f.silt). Soil organic carbon (SoC) stocks on the plateaus (oxisol), slopes (Ultisol) and valley bottoms (Spodosol) were 98.4 ± 7.8 Mg·ha-1, 72.6 ± 5.4 Mg·ha-1 and 81.4 ± 8.9 Mg·ha-1, respectively. Distribution of.carbon in soil f.actions was: 112.6 ± 15 Mg·ha-1 (f.f., 2.5 ± 0 Mg·ha-1 (ILAf., 40.5 ± 1.5 Mg·ha-1 (f.silt), 68.5 ± 4.2 Mg·ha-1 (f.clay) and 28.3 ± 1.4 Mg·ha-1 (f.sand), totaling 252.4 ± 22.1 Mg·ha-1 of.carbon. Carbon is largely in labile f.rm and near the soil surf.ce, making it liable to release f.om def.restation or f.om climate change. Spodosols are more susceptible to soil carbon losses, demonstrating the need to preserve f.rested areas close to Amazonian rivers and streams.

objective: To evaluate the suitability of.educational videos produced in Brazil that addressed aspects related to prevention and/or management of.inf.nt diarrhea according to content;language;graphic illustrations;stimulation f.r learning/motivation and cultural f.t. Method: Documentary study, which evaluated six educational videos f.om an adapted and validated tool, the Suitability Assessment of.Materials. Three nurses evaluated the videos. Data were processed using the Statistical Package f.r the Social Sciences, version 17.0, and presented in tables and graphics. Results: It was f.und that 4 (66.6%) of.the educational videos were classif.ed as appropriate, ranging f.om 60% to 63.3% of.f.ll approval, and 2 (33.3%) were assessed as higher, reaching up to 83.3% to 90% approval. Considering the socioeconomic and cultural contexts of.the videos to the audience, they assigned notes ranging f.om 6 to 9 in a rating ranging f.om 0, the minimum score, to 10, the highest score. Conclusion: The educational videos were considered adequate, with positive results about the content on the prevention and management of.inf.nt diarrhea, being appropriate f.r the target audience. As a result, greater credibility is ratif.ed as the use thereof. since these resources can contribute to health promotion and prevention of.diarrhea in children.

In this work, the use of.computational methods was essential to distinguish the three possible isomeric structures of.the [RuCl3(H2o)2(Gly)] molecule. The characterization of.these molecules was perf.rmed using IR, NMR and UV-VIS simulations. Some calculations related to the optimization of.structures and properties such as chemical hardness and dipole moment were also conducted. The f.c-cis isomer presented promising data when compared to the experimental data, indicating that this is the likely experimentally synthesized isomer. This study demonstrates the technical utility of.the computational calculations by virtue of.situations that prevent the realization of.X-ray dif.raction.

AIM: To evaluate in bile duct ligated rats whether there were progressive alterations of.renal f.nction without changes in histopathology. METHoDS: Male Wistar rats were submitted to sham-surgery or bile duct ligation (BDL) and divided according to the post-procedure time (2, 4 and 6-wk). To determine renal f.nction parameters, rats wereplaced in metabolic cages and, at the end of.the experiment, blood and urine samples were obtained. Histology and hydroxyproline content were analyzed in liver and renal tissue. RESULTS: Rats with 2 wk of.BDL increased f.ee water clearance (P = 0.02), reduced urinary osmolality (P = 0.03) and serum creatinine (P = 0.01) in comparison to the sham group. In contrast, rats at 6 wk of.BDL showed f.atures of.HRS, including signif.icant increase in serum creatinine and reductions in creatinine clearance, water excretion and urinary sodium concentration. Rats with 4 wk of.BDL exhibited an intermediate stage of.renal dysf.nction. Progressive hepatic f.ibrosis according to post-procedure time was conf.rmed by histology. The increased levels of.liver hydroxyproline contrasted with the absence of.structural changes in the kidney, as assessed by histology and unchanged hydroxyproline content in renal tissue. CoNCLUSIoN: our data show that BDL produced progressive renal dysf.nction without structural changes in the kidney, characterizing HRS. The present model will be usef.l to understand the pathophysiology of.HRS.

The cultivation of.the marine species of.shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei has emerged as one of.the segments that best develop in the Brazilian aquaculture, representing the agribusiness that grew the most in recent years. Regarding the economic importance of.the f.rming of.this species in Brazil, f.rther studies on genetic improvement were conducted. A f. segregating population consisting of.192 samples f.r each G1 and G2 f.milies, f.om crossing inbred lines was used f.r the studies perf.rmed in the present work. The genetic linkage analysis was based on polymorphic markers derived f.om nine Af.P (Amplif.ed f.agment Length Polymorphism) primers. f.urteen genetic linkage groups including 103 segregating polymorphic markers were constructed covering350 cMf.r G1 and f.ur genetic linkage groups including 59 markers were constructed covering300 cMf.r G2. Simple marker analyses were perf.rmed among individuals evaluated phenotypically, f.nding markers linked to genes that may be potentially important and usef.l to assess characteristics of.economic importance f.r traits related to weight and the disease IMN (idiopathic muscle necrosis). The statistical model including markers explained major proportion of.phenotypic characteristic weight in relation to disease incidence IMN.
