The treatment of wastewaters is crucial to maintain the ecological status of receiving waters,and thereby guarantee the protection of aquatic life and human *** quality evaluation is conventionally based on physicochemical parameters,but increasing attention has been paid to integrate physicochemical and biological ***,the regulatory use of fish in biological testing methods has been subject to various ethical and cost concerns,and in vitro cell-based assays have thus become an important topic of ***,the present study intends:(a) to evaluate the efficiency of two different sample pre-concentration techniques (lyophilisation and solid phase extraction) to assess the toxicity of municipal effluents on rat cardiomyoblast H9c2(2-1) cells,and (b) maximizing the use of the effluent sample collected,to estimate the environmental condition of the receiving *** gathered results demonstrate that the H9c2(2-1) sulforhodamine B-based assay is an appropriate in vitro method to assess biological effluent toxicity,and the best results were attained by lyophilising the sample as *** to its response,the H9c2(2-1) cell line might be a possible alternative in vitro model for fish lethal testing to assess the toxicity of municipal *** physicochemical status of the sample suggests a high potential for eutrophication,and iron exceeded the permissible level for wastewater discharge,possibly due to the addition of ferric chloride for wastewater *** general,the levels of carbamazepine and sulfamethoxazole are higher than those reported for other countries,and both surpassed the aquatic protective values for long-term exposure.

We report the application of a solid lanthanum-ceria-zinc catalyst in the catalytic regeneration of diesel particulate filters （DPF） in diesel engines. We synthesized a CeO2- ZnO-La2O3 （Ce-Zn-La） mixed oxide by a lactic acid-mediated sol-gel method, which efficiently coated cordierite substrates for soot capture and combustion. We studied the effects of La loading on the physicochemical and catalytic properties of Ce-Zn mixed oxide during lowtemperature soot combustion processes. We characterized the synthesized catalysts by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, N2 adsorption, Raman spectroscopy, oxygen storage capacity （OSG）, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy （SEM and TEM）. Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis （TGA/DTA） confirmed that the catalysts effectively reduced the soot oxidation temperature. The ternary Ce-Zn-La mixed oxide catalyst with Ce/Zn/La atomic ratio of 2：1：0.5 had the highest catalytic activity and promoted soot oxidation at temperatures below 390℃. This indicated that the large number of oxygen vacancies in the catalyst structure generated oxygen species at low temperatures. Raman spectroscopy measurements revealed the presence of oxygen vacancies and lattice defects in Ce-Zn-La samples, which were key parameters concerning the stability and redox properties of the prepared catalysts.

The present work analyzes the monotypic Taenidium barretti ichnofabric developed in abandoned channels and floodplains to understand its paleoecological significance in highly seasonal fluvial *** data come from the Cretaceous paleosols of the Marília Formation(Bauru Basin,SE Brazil),in which the *** ichnofabric and rhizoliths represent the biotic *** larvae are considered to be the most likely *** tracemakers in these *** intensity and recurrence of bioturbation suggest that the windows of opportunity for beetle population growth were very short and controlled by the progressive substrate desiccation after flood *** characteristics of the trace fossil assemblage suggest soil colonization by r-strategic organisms triggered by flooding events that provided the resource inputs necessary for their living during rainy *** results also show that in fluvial systems with high discharge variations,the boundaries between a“pre-desiccation suite”and a“desiccation suite”in the Scoyenia ichnofacies can be diffuse due to the short duration of colonization windows and progressive terrestrialization of floodplains and ***,the frequency of flooding events,the lowered water table,and the rapidity of substrate desiccation constrained colonization by other burrowers and may be considered as firstorder factors controlling the generation of a monotypic *** ***,the monotypic Taenidium ichnofabric in the Scoyenia ichnofacies context is an ichnomarker of brief windows for colonization in highly seasonal environments.

Elemental Composition of PM<sub>2.5</sub>in Araraquara City (Southeast Brazil) during Seasons with and without Sugar Cane Burning

Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter below 2.5 μm (PM2.5), present in polluted air, has been associated with a large spectrum of health impairments, mainly because of its deep deposition into the lungs. Araraquara City (Southeast Brazil) is surrounded by sugar-cane plantations, which are burned to facilitate the harvesting;this process causes environmental pollution due to the large amounts of soot that are released into the atmosphere. In this work, the elemental composition of PM2.5 was studied in two scenarios, namely in sugar-cane harvesting (HV) and in non-harvesting (NHV) seasons. The sampling strategy included one campaign in each season. PM2.5 was collected using a dichotomous sampler (10 L·min-1, 24 h) with PTFE filters. Information concerning the bulk elemental concentration was provided by energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence. Enrichment factor analysis indicated that S, Cl, K, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd and Pb were highly enriched relative to their crustal ratios (to Al). Principal component analysis was used to get some insight about the sources of the elements. Principal component 1 (PC1) explained 30.5% of data variance. The elements that had high loading (>0.7) were: S, Cr, As, and Pb;these are associated with combustion of fossil fuels. In principal component 2 (PC2), Cl, Cu, Zn, and Cd showed high loadings;these elements are associated with biomass burning. The Ni concentration found is three times larger than the threshold of risk for lung cancer, as recommended by the World Health Organization.

Childhood trauma and factors associated with depression among inpatients with cardiovascular disease

AIM To identify factors associated with depressive symptoms among inpatients with cardiovascular disease(CVD). METHODS This is a cross-sectional study performed in a subsample of a large cross-sectional research that investigated affective disorders and suicide behaviour among inpatients hospitalized in non-surgical wards of the University Hospital of the Federal University of Minas Gerais from November 2013 to October 2015. Sociodemographic and clinical data were obtained through a structured interview and medical record review. Depression was assessed by the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, with scores ≥ 8 considered as positive screening for depression. We used the Fagestr?m Test for Nicotine Dependence to characterize nicotine dependence. For assessing resilience and early-life trauma, we used the raw scores of the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, *** At endpoint, we included 137 subjects. Thirty-eight(27.7%) subjects presented depressive symptoms and nine(23.7%) of those were receiving antidepressant treatment during hospitalization. The female sex; a lower mean educational level; a greater prevalence of previous suicide attempts; a higher level of pain; a higher prevalence of family antecedents of mental disorders; a lower resilience score; and higher childhood trauma score were the factors significantly associated with screening positive for major depression(P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the factors independently associated with the depressive symptoms were a higher childhood trauma severity(OR = 1.06; P = 0.004); moderate to severe nicotine dependence(OR = 8.58; P = 0.008); and the number of previous hospital admissions(OR = 1.11; P = 0.034). The obtained logistic model was considered valid, indicating that the three factors together distinguished between having or not depressive symptoms, and correctly classified 74.6% of individuals in the ***

Assessment of Noise Pollution along Two Main Avenues in Curitiba, Brazil

In this study, noise pollution assessments were performed along Marechal Deodoro Avenue and Batel Avenue, which are two major thoroughfares in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Eleven points were evaluated at Batel Avenue and 16 points at Marechal Deodoro Avenue. The results of the noise level measurements and the calculation of noise maps indicated that both thoroughfares are acoustically polluted. The simulated and measured noise levels, in the 27 evaluated points, exceed the limits established by law 10,625 of the city of Curitiba, which establishes acceptable levels for the comfort of the population in the external environment. With regard to the traffic composition in the areas under study, the vehicle flow was found to consist mostly of light vehicles, representing 88% of the total flow along Batel Avenue and 85% on Marshal Deodoro Street. Based on the noise maps and measured noise levels, it was found that the entire length of Marshal Deodoro Avenue and Batel Avenue are strongly affected by street noise, which is readily explained by the constant traffic, high vehicle flow (number of vehicles/hour) and high vehicle speed at some points of these thoroughfares.

Catalytic combustion of soot over Ru-doped mixed oxides catalysts

We employed modified substrates as outer heterogeneous catalysts to reduce the soot originating from the incomplete diesel combustion. Here, we proposed that ceria（CeO2）-based catalysts could lower the temperature at which soot combustion occurred from 610 oC to values included in the operation range of diesel exhausts（270–400 oC）. Here, we used the sol-gel method to synthesize catalysts based on mixed oxides（ZnO：CeO2） deposited on cordierite substrates, and modified by ruthenium nanoparticles. The presence of ZnO in these mixed oxides produced defects associated with oxygen vacancies, improving thermal stability, redox potential, sulfur resistance, and oxygen storage. We evaluated the morphological and structural properties of the material by X-ray diffraction（XRD）, Brumauer-emmett-teller method（BET）, temperature programmed reduction（H2-TPR）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, and transmission electron microscopy（TEM）. We investigated how the addition of Ru（0.5 wt.%） affected the catalytic activity of ZnO：CeO2 in terms of soot combustion. Thermogravimetric analysis（TG/DTA） revealed that presence of the catalyst decreased the soot combustion temperature by 250 oC, indicating that the oxygen species arose at low temperatures, which was the main reason for the high reactivity of the oxidation reactions. Comparative analysis of soot emission by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy（DRS） showed that the catalyst containing Ru on the mixed oxide-impregnated cordierite samples efficiently oxidized soot in a diesel stationary motor： soot emission decreased 80%.

Modified substrates as outer heterogeneous catalysts was employed to reduce the soot generated from incomplete combustion of diesel or diesel/biodiesel blends, a process that harms the environment and public health. The unique storage properties of ceria （CeO2） makes it one of the most efficient catalysts available to date. Here, we proposed that ceria-based catalysts can lower the temperature at which soot combustion occurs; more specifically, from 610℃ to values included in the diesel exhausts operation range （300-450℃）. The sol-gel method was used to synthesize mixed oxide-based catalysts （CeO2：ZnO）; the resulting catalysts were deposited onto cordierite substrates. In addition, the morphological and structural properties of the material were evaluated by XRD, BET, TPR-H2, and SEM. Thermogravimetric （TG/DTA） analysis revealed that the presence of the catalyst decreased the soot combustion temperature by 200℃ on average, indicating that the oxygen species arise at low temperatures in this situation, promoting highly reactive oxidation reactions. Comparative analysis of soot emission by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy （DRS） showed that catalyst-impregnated cordierite samples efficiently oxidized soot in a diesel/biodiesel stationary motor： soot emission decreased by more than 70%.

A multivariate analysis on spatiotemporal evolution of Covid-19 in Brazil

This data-driven work aims to analyze and classify the spatiotemporal distribution of all Brazilian states considering data so diverse as the number of Covid-19 cases,deaths,confirmed cases per 100 k inhabitants,mortality per 100 k inhabitants and case fatality rates as health *** also considered population,area and population density as geographic ***,GDP and HDI were taken into account as economic and social *** this task data were collected from April 3rd until August 8th,2020,corresponding to epidemiological weeks 14e32,reaching three million cases and a hundred thousand *** this data it was possible to classify Brazilian states using multivariate methods into possible groups by means of non-hierarchical(k-means)cluster as well as factor *** was possible to group all states plus the Federal District into five clusters,taking into account these 10 variables over the first five months of the *** changes between states were observed over time and clusters,and between three and four factors were ***,even with great difference on health indicators during days,the number of clusters remains ***,S^ao paulo and Rio de Janeiro states were ranked at top list taking into account all epidemiological *** were observed between variables,such as the number of Covid cases and deaths with GDP for most of epidemiological *** clusters were more critical due to specific variables,including cities that are main *** multivariate findings would provide a comprehensive description of the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic and may help to guide subsequent studies to understand and control virus transmission.
