Paleomapping:Creating testable visual hypotheses of ancient worlds

The story of the Earth's changing landscapes is often told through paleogeographic maps. These images are some of the most accessible and widely used illustrations in the Earth sciences. However, no formal procedure for the creation of photorealistic paleomaps(i.e., paleosatellite images) exists. Using an example from the Late jurassic of the Rocky Mountain region, we present a method for making paleoenvironmental and paleosatellite maps that is scalable, reproducible, testable, and incorporates peer review. The process includes a literature review followed by data-visualization, paleoenvironmental interpretation, peer-review,iterative revisions, and the creation of a false contour map and color gradient used to render a paleosatellite image. Paleosatellite images are photorealistic versions of paleoenvironmental maps that incorporate global climatic and tectonic information as well as principles of actualism; they can be made through comparison to analogous modern landscapes. An important component of this process is that the data maps that ground this paleomapping process allow evaluation of where paleoenvironmental interpretations are wellsupported by outcrop and subsurface data, and where such visualization is highly interpretive-often because of lack of available rocks or studies in a given area. As such, our paleoenvironmental maps and paleosatellite images are testable pictorial hypotheses. By outlining a procedure that produces referenced,data-rich, and visually realistic maps, we hope to demystify the paleoenvironmental map-making process and improve accessibility of paleomaps for the broader geoscience community. Where resources and complementary data are available, such maps also have potential for georeferencing and integration with larger continent-scale paleogeographic maps.

发展智慧养老是应对人口快速老龄化挑战的重要举措,既能缓解社会养老压力,又能满足老年人日益多样化的需求。然而,当前智慧养老系统的应用仍面临老年人接受度较低、交互效能较低、信任度较低、责任分配不明晰等一系列问题。因此,本研究旨在从用户需求、交互行为、人机信任、人机责任多层次构建老年用户与智能系统人机共融的理论框架,深入探究用户特征、系统属性、情境因素对人机共融的影响机理。本研究在用户需求、交互行为层次,构建用户画像、需求模型与交互行为模型,优化智能系统属性,提升老年用户的接受度、交互效能;在人机信任层次,探究老年用户与智能系统的人机动态信任发展规律,剖析各类因素对动态信任的综合影响机理,提升老年用户使用行为的持续性和人机关系的稳定性;在人机责任层次,面对智能系统应用可能带来的正面、负面结果,剖析各类因素对人机责任归因的影响机制,促进更好的人机协同。开展本研究可促进人机共融理论的发展,为智能系统的适老化设计与升级提供理论支撑与实践参考。

提升TC11钛合金的耐磨损性能对航空发动机关键零部件的安全性能至关重要。基于表面机械研磨处理工艺,通过将研磨球和TiN粉末混合研磨的方式,在TC11钛合金表面实现了晶粒细化和弥散强化,成功制备了基于TiN颗粒增强的强化层,对表面形貌和微观组织特征进行研究,并评估其耐磨损性能。结果表明,处理后的TC11钛合金样品表面粗糙度显著降低,表面硬度和耐磨损性能显著提升。与未处理和仅作普通研磨处理的样品相比,TiN颗粒增强的样品表面粗糙度分别降低了43.29%和23.14%,表面硬度分别提高了9.48%和1.8%,磨痕宽度分别降低了36.18%和33.18%。本文为改善TC11及其他钛合金材料的耐磨损性能提供了一种新的解决方法,对提高航空发动机关键零部件的服役性能具有参考意义。

The objective of the present study is to systematically evaluate the role of polymer crystallinity on fibroblast and osteoblast adhesion and proliferation using a series of poly（caprolactone-co-glycolide）（PCL/PGA） polymers. PCL/PGA polymers were selected since they reflect both highly crystalline and amorphous materials. PCL/PGA polymeric materials were fabricated by compression molding into thin films. Five compositions, from PCL or PGA to intermediate copolymeric compositions of PCL/PGA in ratios of 25：75, 35：65 and 45：55, were studied. Pure PCL and PGA represented the crystalline materials while the copolymers were amorphous. The polymers/copolymers were characterized using DSC to assess crystallinity, contact angle measurement for hydrophobicity, and AFM for nanotopography. The PCL/PGA films demonstrated similar hydrophobicity and nanotopography whereas they differed significantly in crystallinity. Cell adhesion to and proliferation on PCL/PGA films and proliferation studies were performed using osteoblasts and NIH-3T3 fibroblasts. It was observed that highly crystalline and rigid PCL and PGA surfaces were significantly more efficient in supporting fibroblast growth, whereas amorphous/flexible PCL/PGA 35：65 was significantly more efficient in supporting growth of osteoblasts. This study demonstrated that while chemical composition, hydrophobicity and surface roughness of PCL/PGA polymers were held constant, crystallinity and rigidity of PCL/PGA played major roles in determining cell responses.

Our concern in this paper is the energy form induced by an eigenfunction of a self-adjoint extension of the restriction of the Laplace operator to C_c^∞(R^3\{0}).We will prove that this energy form is a regular Dirichlet form with core C_c^∞(R^3).The associated diffusion X behaves like a 3-dimensional Brownian motion with a mild radial drift when far from 0,subject to an ever-stronger push toward 0 near that *** particular,{0}is not a polar set with respect to *** diffusion X is rotation invariant,and admits a skew-product representation before hitting{0}:its radial part is a diffusion on(0,∞)and its angular part is a time-changed Brownian motion on the sphere S^*** radial part of X is a"reflected"extension of the radial part of X^0(the part process of X before hitting{0}).Moreover,X is the unique reflecting extension of X^0,but X is not a semi-martingale.

AIM： To evaluate the refractive outcome of Toric Lentis Mplus intraocular lens（IOL） implant.· METHODS： This is a retrospective case *** patients with corneal astigmatism of at least1.5 D had Toric Lentis Mplus IOL implant during cataract surgery. The exclusion criteria included irregular astigmatism on corneal topography, large scotopic pupil diameter（〉6 mm）, poor visual potential and significant ocular comorbidity. Postoperative manifest refraction,uncorrected distance visual acuity（UDVA）, best-corrected distance visual acuity（BCVA）, uncorrected intermediate visual acuity at（UIVA） 3/4 m and uncorrected near visual acuity（UNVA） were obtained.·RESULTS： There were 70 eyes from 49 patients in this study. Patients were refracted at a median of 8.9wk（range 4.0 to 15.5） from the operation date. Sixty-five percent of eyes had 6/7.5（0.10 log MAR） or better, and99% 6/12（0.30 log MAR） or better postoperative ***-nine percent could read jaeger（j） 3（0.28 log MAR）and 95% j5（0.37 log MAR） at 40 cm. The median magnitude of astigmatism decreased from 1.91 D to 0.49 D（Wilcoxon, P〈0.001） after the operation. The range of the cylindrical error was reduced from 1.5-3.95 D（keratometric） preoperatively to 0.00-1.46 D（subjective refraction transposed to corneal plane） postoperatively.· CONCLUSION： Toric Lentis Mplus IOL has good predictability in reducing preexisting corneal astigmatism.

We discuss the role of atomic coordination in dictating the vibrational characteristics and thermal conductivity in amorphous *** systematic atomistic simulations on amorphous carbon structures at varying mass densities show the significant role played by the ratio of sp2 to sp3 hybridized bonds in dictating the contributions from propagating(phonon-like)and non-propagating vibrational modes and their influence on the overall thermal conductivities of the ***,our results show that as the concentration of sp3-bonded carbon atoms increases,the thermal conductivity can be increased by four fold,which is attributed to enhanced contributions from propagating modes in these amorphous *** results shed more light into the role of atomic coordination on dictating heat transfer mechanisms in amorphous materials,and also provide a deeper understanding of the ability to tune the thermal conductivity of amorphous carbon structures through the control of the local atomic coordination.
