Hemispheric asymmetries can be seen as one of the evolutionary adaptations that allowed the human brain to muster more complex cognitive processes than other *** this vein,the study published by Cheng et al.[1]presents a pivotal investigation of both the regional and connectional asymmetries within the inferior parietal lobule(IPL)in human,chimpanzee,and *** investigating 4 sub-divisions of the IPL across the three species,Cheng and colleagues showed that the macroanatomical and connectional architecture of the IPL became more asymmetric throughout the primate *** macaques show little to no structural asymmetries,chimpanzees display a more asymmetric architecture but with both leftward and rightward asymmetries in various *** contrast,the human IPL displayed the highest number of asymmetries among the three species with a clear tendency towards more *** evolutionary trend towards a more lateralized organization of the IPL may have accompanied an improved command of tool-use,stronger forelimb asymmetries,and the increasing complexity of communicative behavior.

Pore pressure is the pressure associated with fluids in the pore spaces of sedimentary rocks. Thispressure varies from hydrostatic to severe overpressure. It is classified as abnormal pressure when itdeviates from hydrostatic pressure. Incorrect prediction or the absence of pore pressure evaluation canlead to severe damage of the drilling platform, loss of personnel, waste of resources and environmentalpollution. This study was carried out in an offshore field in Niger delta with an objective of predicting theabnormal pressure regime from the seismic volume using seismic inversion technique. First, weemployed the Eaton’s and Bower’s model of predicting pore pressure from Well log. The predicted porepressure from the well was used to calibrate the P-impedance that was used in the inversion process. Apressure-based model for the seismic inversion process was developed. This was constrained by therelationship between the P-impedance and pore pressure in the study area. The predicted pore pressurefrom the Well logs aligned with the measured pore pressure in the formation. At about 3600 m to end ofthe Well, depicts a pressure regime that is a deviation from the hydrostatic pressure trend. The abnormalpressure regime is marked by the region where a change is observed in the normal compaction trendline. The cross plot of acoustic impedance against pore pressure reveals a linear relationship;with adirect relationship indicating a normal pressure interval and the indirect relationship at the abnormalpressure regime. The inverted 3d pressure result from the seismic volume validates the normalcompaction trend line and also the pressure values estimated from the Well logs. The abnormal pressureregime in the study area is predicted to be found towards the end of Agbada Formation and through theAkata Formation due to the un-compacted shales.

We develop a computationally efficient scheme to accurately determine finite-temperature band gaps for metal halide perovskites belonging to the class ABX_(3)(A=Rb,Cs;B=Ge,Sn,Pb;and X=F,Cl,Br,I).First,an initial estimate of the band gap is provided for the ideal crystalline structure through the use of a range-separated hybrid functional,in which the parameters are determined non-empirically from the electron density and the high-frequency dielectric ***,we consider two kinds of band-gap corrections to account for spin-orbit coupling and thermal vibrations including zero-point *** particular,the latter effect is accounted for through the special displacement method,which consists in using a single distorted configuration obtained from the vibrational frequencies and eigenmodes,thereby avoiding lengthy molecular *** sequential consideration of both corrections systematically improves the band gaps,reaching a mean absolute error of 0.17 eV with respect to experimental *** computational efficiency of our scheme stems from the fact that only a single calculation at the hybrid-functional level is required and that it is sufficient to evaluate the corrections at the semilocal level of *** scheme is thus convenient for the screening of large databases of metal halide perovskites,including large-size systems.

A series of azobenzene containing side-on liquid crystalline ABA triblock copolymers were investigated. This triblock series possesses the same central liquid crystal block B and various lengths of the amorphous block A. Transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, small angle X-rays and neutron scattering （SAXS and SANS） were used to study their morphologies. After annealing the samples over weeks at a temperature within the nematic temperature range of block B, different morphologies （disordered, lamellar, perforated layer and hexagonal cylinder） were observed by TEM. The alignment behavior of these azo triblock copolymers in the magnetic field for artificial muscle application, as well as the phase period and the order-disorder transition （OdT） were studied in situ by SANS.

Severe environmental conditions affect organisms in two major ways. The environment may be predictably severe such as in deserts, polar and alpine regions, or individuals may be exposed to temporarily extreme conditions through weather, presence of predators, lack of food, social status etc. Existence in an extreme environment may be possible, but then to breed or molt in addition can present major bottlenecks that have resulted in the evolution of hormone-behavior adaptations to cope with unpredictable events. Examples of hormone-behavior adaptations in extreme conditions include attenuated testosterone secretion because territoriality and excess courtship may be too costly when there is one opportunity to reproduce. The individual may even become insensitive to testosterone when target areas of the brain regulating reproductive behavior no longer respond to the hormone. A second example is reduced sensitivity to glucocorticoids following acute stress during the breeding season or molt that allows successful reproduction and/or a vital renewal of the integument to endure extreme conditions during the rest of the year. Reduced sensitivity could involve：（a） modulated response of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis, （b） reduced sensitivity to high glucocorticoid levels, or （c） a combination of （a） and （b）. Moreover, corticosteroid binding proteins （CBP） buffer responses to stress by reducing the movement of glucocorticoids into target cells. Finally, intracellular enzymes （11 β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and variants） can deactivate glucocorticoids entering cells thus reducing interaction with receptors. These mechanisms have important implications for climate change and increasing extremes of weather [Current Zoology 57 （3）： 363-374, 2011].

Advanced septic arthritis of the shoulder treated by a two-stage arthroplasty

BACKGROUNd The usual treatment of septic shoulder arthritis consists of arthroscopic or open lavage and ***,in patients with advanced osteoarthritic changes and/or massive rotator cuff tendon tears,infection eradication can be challenging to achieve and the functional outcome is often not satisfying even after successful infection *** such cases a two-stage approach with initial resection of the native infected articular surfaces,implantation of a cement spacer before final treatment with a total shoulder arthroplasty in a second stage is gaining popularity in recent years with the data in literature however being still *** To evaluate the results of a short interval two-stage arthroplasty approach for septic arthritis with concomitant advanced degenerative changes of the shoulder *** We retrospectively included five consecutive patients over a five-year period and evaluated the therapeutic management and the clinical outcome assessed by disability of the arm,shoulder and hand(dASH)score and subjective shoulder value(SSV).All procedures were performed through a deltopectoral approach and consisted in a debridement and synovectomy,articular surface resection and insertion of a custom made antibiotic enriched cement *** arthroplasty was performed in a second *** Mean age was 61 years(range,47-70 years).Four patients had previous surgeries ahead of the septic *** patients had a surgical debridement ahead of the index *** follow-up was 13 mo(range,6-24 mo).Persistent microbiological infection was confirmed in all five cases at the time of the first stage of the *** shoulder arthroplasties were performed 6 to 12 wk after insertion of the antibiotic-loaded *** were two hemi and three reverse shoulder *** was successfully eradicated in all *** clinical outcome was satisfactory with a mean dASH score and SSV of 18.4 points and 70%respectiv

Purified glycerol obtained after acid treatment of crude glycerol solution was used as the carbon source for lipid and citric acid production using *** *** purified glycerol was high in phosphorus,it was important to inves-tigate the impact of fortification of trace elements in the medium on cell growth,lipid and citric acid(CA)*** all the trace elements(including phosphates and sulfates)required for growth and lipid production were added to the purified glycerol medium,high biomass(51.67 g/L)and lipid concentration(19.47 g/L)were observed at 96 h of fed-batch fermentation with low CA concentration of 5.42 g/*** purified glycerol medium without additional trace elements gave low biomass(27.67 g/L),lipid concentration(9.35 g/L)at 80 h of fed-batch fermentation,but gave high CA concentration(24.51 g/L).When purified glycerol was provided with only sulfates or all elements except KH_(2)PO_(4),low biomass(32.59 g/L and 38.52 g/L)and citric acid concentration(1 g/L and 2.42 g/L)were obtained at 96 h.
