Does divergence from normal patterns of integration increase as chromosomal fusions increase in number?A test on a house mouse hybrid zone

Chromosomal evolution is widely considered an important driver of speciation because it can promote the establishment of reproductive *** reorganization is also expected to affect the mea n phe no type,as well as its developme nt and patter ns of phenotypic in tegrati on,through processes such as variation in genetic linkage between quantitative trait loci or between regulatory regions and their *** we explore the relationship between chromosomal evolution and phenotypic integration by analyzing a well-known house mouse parapatric contact zone between a highly derived Robertsonian(Rb)race(2n=22)and populations with standard karyotype(2n=40).Populations with hybrid karyotypes are scattered throughout the hybrid zone connecting the two parental *** mandible shape data and geometric morphometries,we test the hypothesis that patter ns of in tegration progressively diverge from the"normal"integration pattern observed in the standard race as they accumulate Rb *** find that the main pattern of integration observed between the posterior and anterior part of the mandible can be largely attributed to *** find no support for a gradual increase in divergence from normal patterns of integration as fusions ***,however,we find that the derived Rb race(2n=22)has a distinct allometric trajectory compared with the standard *** results suggest that either individual fusions disproportionately affect patterns of integration or that there are mechanisms which"purge"extreme variants in hybrids(*** fitness of hybrid shape).

Background:Hemodialysis(HD) per se is a risk factor for *** the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR) exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrombotic agent D-dimer is required for the safety and feasibility of this training *** aim of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dimer levels and to determine the acute effect of resistance exercise(RE) with BFR on this ***:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glomerular filtration rate of 70 years old),and HD ***,RE+BFR significantly increases D-dimer after 4 *** with borderline baseline D-dimer levels(400-490 ng/mL) displayed increased risk of elevating D-dimer over the normal range(≥500 ng/mL).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrombotic state and may assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo RE+BFR.D-dimer and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary measure to maximize safety during RE+BFR.

Significant advances in surgical techniques and relevant medium-and long-term outcomes over the past two decades have led to a substantial expansion in the indications for major liver *** support these outstanding results and to reduce perioperative complications,anesthesiologists must address and master key perioperative issues(preoperative assessment,proactive intraoperative anesthesia strategies,and implementation of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery approach).Intensive care unit monitoring immediately following liver surgery remains a subject of active and often unresolved *** postoperative complications,posthepatectomy liver failure(PHLF)occurs in different grades of severity(A-C)and frequency(9%-30%),and it is the main cause of 90-d postoperative ***,recently redefined with pragmatic clinical criteria and perioperative scores,can be predicted,prevented,or *** review highlights:(1)The systemic consequences of surgical manipulations anesthesiologistsmust respond to or prevent,to positively impact PHLF(a proactive approach);and(2)the maximal intensivetreatment of PHLF,including artificial options,mainly based,so far,on Acute Liver Failure treatment(s),to buytime waiting for the recovery of the native liver or,when appropriate and in very selected cases,toward *** a clinical context requires a strong commitment to surgeons,anesthesiologists,and intensivists towork together,for a fruitful collaboration in a mandatory clinical continuum.

Experiments and modeling of discharge characteristics in water-mist sprays generated by pressure-swirl atomizers

Pressure-swirl atomizers are often employed to generate a water-mist spray,typically employed in fire *** the present study,an experimental characterization of dispersion(velocity and cone angle)and atomization(drop-size axial evolution)was carried out following a previously developed methodology,with specific reference to the initial region of the ***-based techniques were used to quantitatively evaluate the considered phenomena:velocity field was reconstructed through a Particle Image Velocimetry analysis;drop-size distribution was measured by a Malvern Spraytec device,highlighting secondary atomization and subsequent coalescence along the spray ***,a comprehensive set of relations was validated as predictive of the involved parameters,following an inviscid-fluid *** proposed model pertains to early studies on pressure-swirl atomizers and primarily yields to determine both initial velocity and cone *** spray thickness is also predicted and a classic correlation for Sauter Mean Diameter is shown to provide good agreement with experimental *** analysis was carried out at the operative pressure of 80 bar;two injectors were employed featuring different orifice diameters and flow numbers,as a sort of parametric approach to this spray typology.

"Charge while driving"for electric vehicles:road traffic modeling and energy assessment

The aim of this research study is to present a method for analyzing the performance of the wireless inductive charge-while-driving(CWD)electric vehicles,from both traffic and energy points of *** accurately quantify the electric power required from an energy supplier for the proper management of the charging system,a traffic simulation model is *** model is based on a mesoscopic approach,and it is applied to a freight distribution *** changing and positioning are managed according to a cooperative system among vehicles and supported by advanced driver assistance systems(ADAS).From the energy point of view,the analyses indicate that the traffic may have the following effects on the energy of the system:in a low traffic level scenario,the maximum power that should be supplied for the entire road is simulated at approximately 9 MW;and in a high level traffic scenario with lower average speeds,the maximum power required by the vehicles in the charging lane increases by more than 50%.

Flash flood sediment transport in a steep sand-bed ephemeral stream

This paper reports about flow and sediment transport measurements undertaken during the rainy season(July-August) 2008 on Gereb Oda,a steep,sand-bed ephemeral stream,draining the western margin of the Kobo structural basin in northern *** Oda streambed is dry for most of the year since it is subjected only to sporadic flash floods in response to individual,high intensity and spatially confined *** about hydraulic and sediment transport processes in steep sand-bed,ephemeral stream is very poor and,though only two flash floods occurred during the field campaign,the data gathered may contribute to improve our knowledge on these kind of *** numbers were calculated in order to verify the occurrence of supercritical flow conditions as postulated by a few authors from the analysis of sedimentary structures *** data are also compared to simple models to predict flow velocity and discharge since flow recording systems are seldom installed on ephemeral streams in remote areas and developing *** rivers are known for their very high suspended sediment transport,but very little bedload data exist for sand-bed,ephemeral *** variation of suspended sediment concentration with discharge is analysed and simple rating curves for both suspended and bed load transport are derived.A few equations to predict bedload are tested against Gereb Oda data and the relationship between en masse bedload transport processes as thin sand sheets and the development of horizontal lamination through the migration of leaf-shaped,sheet-like bedforms is ***,large boulders were observed to move at flow depths of the same order of magnitude of their size.A few functions to predict the threshold conditions for large particles entrainment are used to verify if and to what extent they match Gereb Oda field *** increased density of the water-sediment mixture,for the very high suspended sediment concentr

Ligninolytic Peroxidase-Like Activity of a Synthetic Metalloporphine Immobilized onto Mercapto-Grafted Crosslinked PVA Inspired by the Active Site of Cytochrome P450

A synthetic metalloporphine was immobilized onto a PVA-based and mercapto-grafted solid support, emulating the active site of cytochrome P450. Its ligninolytic peroxidase-like catalytic activity was studied. The coordinated mercapto ligand significantly affected the catalytic features of the catalyst because the oxidation of lignin-model compounds was very slow by comparison with imidazoleand pyridine-coordinated immobilized metalloporphines. Conversely, the catalyst efficiently bleached several industrial dyes and thus demonstrated promising activity for this application. Based on this altered substrate specificity the oxygen-donor catalytic route seems to be more favorable than a single electron oxidation pathway.

Vibration suppression of speed-controlled robots with nonlinear control

In this paper, a simple nonlinear control strategy for the simultaneous position tracking and vibration damping of robots is presented. The control is developed for devices actuated by speed-controlled servo drives. The conditions for the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system are derived by ensuring its passivity. The capability of achieving improved trajectory tracking and vibration suppression is shown through experimental tests conducted on a three-axis Cartesian robot. The control is aimed to be compatible with most industrial applications given the simplicity of implementation, the reduced computational requirements, and the use of joint position as the only measured signal.
