The roles that top predators play in reg.lating.the structure and function of ecosystems have long.been controversial. This is particularly the case when predators pose adverse risks for human life and/or economic interests. The critique of literature on ding.es and their ecolog.cal roles in Australia provided by Allen et al. （2011） shows that top predators remain a potentially polarising.issue. In opposition to Allen et al. we arg.e that these widespread patterns of species＇ abundances, attributed to the ef- fects of ding.es and evident at scales rang.ng.from the forag.ng.behaviour of individuals throug. to continental scale patterns of species abundances, constitute strong.support for the mesopredator release hypothesis and provide evidence that ding.es benefit biodiversity conservation by inducing.community wide trophic cascades. Harnessing.the positive ecolog.cal effects of ding.es while at the same time minimising.their impacts on ag.iculture is a major socio-political challeng. in Australia [Current Zoolog. 57 （5）： 668-670].

Lateral mig.ation of the Bhag.rathi River temporally creates unavoidable g.omorphic hazards in West Beng.l, India. The Bhag.rathi River flows sW for ～67.30 km between the confluence point of Ajay and Jalang. rivers in East Burdwan and Nadia districts of West Beng.l. The course of Bhag.rathi is notably mig.ation prone and cultivates problematic chang.s along.its course over time. In the study, we have looked into its mig.ation tendency and unpredictability for past 238 years and then predicted the lateral shifting.of river centerline using.temporal satellite imag.ries – Landsat-5(TM) of 1987(8, December), 1995(28, January), 2005(7, January) and LIss-IV satellite imag.ry(2017, 5 January);sOI Toposheet – 1968–1969(79 A/2, 79 A/3, 79 A/6 and 79 A/7) and Rennell's map of 1779. Other hig.lig.ts are the quest of fluvial features, oxbow lakes, mid-channel bars, channel mig.ation rate, meander g.ometry, channel sinuosity in different parts of river course and the parts that experience intensive bank erosion. The entire river course has been subdivided into three seg.ents; viz. reaches A, B and C. Investig.tion displays that deg.ee of sinuosity decreases from its anterior course(1968) to the existing.course(2017). Reach-specific outputs display that reach B is hig.ly sinuous(sI value 1.94 in 2017) and sI increases temporarily, whereas for reaches A and C it decreases with time. The rate of mig.ation is hig.er in reach B than that in reaches C and A. The study displays a notably decreasing.trend of mig.ation in comparison with its previous lateral mig.ation and shows that the mig.ation nature over time is intensively inconsistent and unpredictable except very few portions of the river course. The nature of deposition within the river channel shows an unstable behavior during.the entire period of the study. Meander g.ometry depicts a rapid chang. of river course innate to meander bends and shows a hig.er rate of mig.ation by meander loop cut-off rather than lateral mig.ation th

Nanoparticle(drug.particle) dispersion is an important phenomenon during.nanodrug.delivery in the bloodstream by using.multifunctional carrier particles. The aim of this study is to understand the dispersion of drug.particle(nanoparticle) transport during.steady blood flow throug. a microvessel. A two-phase fluid model is considered to define blood flow throug. a microvessel. Plug.and intermediate reg.ons are defined by a non-Newtonian Herschel-Bulkley fluid model where the plug.reg.on appears due to the ag.reg.tion of red blood cells at the axis in the vessel. The peripheral(porous in nature)reg.on is defined by the Newtonian fluids. The wall of the microvessel is considered to be permeable and characterized by the Darcy model. stress-jump and velocity slip conditions are incorporated respectively at the interface of the intermediate and peripheral reg.ons and at the inner surface of the microvessel. The effects of the rheolog.cal parameter, the pressure constant, the particle volume fraction, the stress jump constant, the slip constant,and the yield stress on the dispersion are analyzed and discussed. It is observed that the non-dimensional pressure g.adient and the yield stress enhance the dispersion rate of the nanoparticle, while the opposite trends are observed for the velocity slip constant, the nanoparticle volume fraction, the rheolog.cal parameter, and the stress-jump constant.

A 6kb rDNA probe comprising.the 18s coding.plusspacer sequences has been hybridized to the metaphase chromosomes of apple rootstock cultivar MM106 demon-strating.the localization of ribosomal g.ne arrays in the vicinity of the telomeric reg.ons of the short arms of chro-mosomes 6 and 14. The in situ results using.dig.xyg.nin labelling.coupled to an alkaline phosphatase immunoassay were confirmed by silver staining.for NORs and nucleoli. This study demonstrates the feasibility of molecular cyto-g.netic analysis of very small chromosomes (1.0-2.7μm)of apple.

The non-uniform heating.and cooling.g.nerates the thermal stresses and subsequently the residual stresses and distortion. The long.tudinal and transverse residual stresses and ang.lar distortion are g.nerally measured in larg. panel structure of submerg.d arc welded fillet joints. Hence, the objective of this present work is to quantify the amount of residual stress and distortion in and around the weld joint due to positioning.of stiffeners tack. The tacking.sequence influences the level of residual stress and proper controlling.of tacking.sequences is required to minimize the stress. In present study, an elasto-plastic material behavior is considered to develop the thermo mechanical model which predicts the residual stress and ang.lar distortion with varying.tacking.sequences. The simulated result reveals that the tacking.sequence heavily influences the residual stress and deformation pattern of the sing.e sided fillet joint. The finite element based numerical model is calibrated by comparing.the experimental data from published literature. Henceforth, the ang.lar distortions are measured from an in-house developed experimental set-up. A fair ag.eement between the predicted and experimental results indicates the robustness of the developed numerical model. However, the most sig.ificant conclusion from present study states that tack weld position should be placed opposite to the fillet weld side to minimize the residual stress.

A study was conducted to examine the distribution pattern of four rhizomatous medicinal and aromatic plant species （MAPs） viz., Ang.lica g.auca, Pleurospermum ang.licoides, Rheum emodi and Arne- bia benthamii in different forest stands in Central Himalaya. Results show that A. g.auca and P. ang.licoides had a hig.er （50%） frequency at Chipkoan, g.rpak and Phag.ti forest, R. emodi had a hig.er （60%） frequency at Rishikund, suki and Himtoli, and A. benthamii had a hig.er （70%） frequency at suki and Khambdhar The densities of A. g.auca （0.6 plants·m -2 ） and P. ang.licoides （0.5 plants·m -2 ） were hig.er at Chipkoan and g.rpak sites than at other micro-sites, while densities of R. emodi （0.8 plants·m -2 ） and A. benthamii （1.0 plants·m -2 ） were hig.er at suki and Khambdhar sites. A. g.auca had hig.est total basal covers （TBC）（1.2 cm 2 ·m -2 ） at Chipkoan, P. ang.licoides had hig.est TBC （0.92 cm 2 ·m -2） at Lati kharak site, A. benthamii had the hig.est TBC （6.48 cm 2 ·m -2 ） atKhambdhar, and R. emodi had hig.est TBC （4.53 cm 2 ·m -2 ） at Rishikund. For the four studied species, A. g.auca showed a contag.ous distribution, P. ang.licoides and R. emodi showed the random and A. benthamii showed the reg.lar type of distribution.
