Topology Optimization of Metamaterial Microstructures for Negative Poisson’s Ratio under Large Deformation Using a Gradient-Free Method

Negative Poisson’s ratio(NPR)metamaterials are attractive for their unique mechanical behaviors and potential applications in deformation control and energy absorption.However,when subjected to significant stretching,NPR metamaterials designed under small strain assumption may experience a rapid degradation in NPR performance.To address this issue,this study aims to design metamaterials maintaining a targeted NPR under large deformation by taking advantage of the geometry nonlinearity mechanism.A representative periodic unit cell is modeled considering geometry nonlinearity,and its topology is designed using a gradient-free method.The unit cell microstructural topologies are described with the material-field series-expansion(MFSE)method.The MFSE method assumes spatial correlation of the material distribution,which greatly reduces the number of required design variables.To conveniently design metamaterials with desired NPR under large deformation,we propose a two-stage gradient-free metamaterial topology optimization method,which fully takes advantage of the dimension reduction benefits of the MFSE method and the Kriging surrogate model technique.Initially,we use homogenization to find a preliminary NPR design under a small deformation assumption.In the second stage,we begin with this preliminary design and minimize deviations in NPR from a targeted value under large deformation.Using this strategy and solution technique,we successfully obtain a group of NPR metamaterials that can sustain different desired NPRs in the range of[−0.8,−0.1]under uniaxial stretching up to 20% strain.Furthermore,typical microstructure designs are fabricated and tested through experiments.The experimental results show good consistency with our numerical results,demonstrating the effectiveness of the present gradientfree NPR metamaterial design strategy.

Clinical competency:perceptions of nursing interns and clinical mentors

Objective:To assess the clinical competency of nursing interns and the perception of clinical nurse mentors toward student nurses'clinical competency.Methods:A study was carried out among 104 nursing interns and 26 clinical nurse mentors using the purposive sampling technique.A self-repor ted perception scale was used to collect the data.Results:In general,most nursing interns perceived themselves as clinically competent during the internship.The clinical nurse mentors too repor ted that the current internship is helping the nursing interns in becoming competent.Conclusions:Frequent clinical evaluation,buddy system,provision of stipends,good leadership,and coordination between the academic institute and hospital are repor ted as the critical motivating factors for improving the clinical competency of student interns.

An Integrated Control Framework for Torque Vectoring and Active Suspension System

Four-wheel independently driven electric vehicles(FWID-EV)endow a flexible and scalable control framework to improve vehicle performance.This paper integrates the torque vectoring and active suspension system(ASS)to enhance the vehicle’s longitudinal and vertical motion control performance.While the nonlinear characteristic of the tire model leads to a relatively heavier computational burden.To facilitate the controller design and ease the load,a half-vehicle dynamics system is built and simplified to the linear-time-varying(LTV)model.Then a model predictive controller is developed by formulating the objective function by comprehensively considering the safety,energy-saving and comfort requirements.The in-wheel motor efficiency and the power loss of tire slip are treated as optimization indices in this work to reduce energy consumption.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through the rapid-control-prototype(RCP)test.The results demonstrate the enhancement of the energy-saving as well as comfort on the basis of vehicle stability.

Phototheranostics is an emerging field in synergistic antitumor therapy in which irradiation and sensitizers are combined to produce reactive oxygen species(ROS),bio-images,and high temperatures.All of these are arrived from the energy of sensitizers,which located in excited single state(S_(1)).Undeniably,the decentralization of the S_(1)population indirectly decreases the effect of each individual treatment.In this study,a strategy was proposed for enhancing the S_(1)population,and a sensitizer with mitochondrial targeting property,1,4-indolyl iodinated pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole derivative(2I-TPIS),was assembled into adenosine triphosphate(ATP)-responsive nanoparticles(DPA-2I NPs)to achieve dual responses to irradiation and ultrasonication(US)for application to photo-sonodynamic therapy(PSDT).Compared with monotherapies,2I-TPIS generated more ROS in PSDT,inducing mitochondrial autophagy and apoptosis,which in turn triggered immunogenic cell death(ICD).Subsequently,DPA-2I NPs were constructed and self-assembled with the chemotherapeutic agents DPA-Cd and 2I-TPIS to achieve a triple synergistic strategy involving chemotherapy(CT)and PSDT.DPA-2I NPs exhibited absolute sensitization,intra-tumoral overexpression of ATP,and disassembly.Importantly,the biosafety and potent antitumor efficiency of the DPA-2I NP-based“PSDT+CT”therapy were revealed using a 4T1 tumor model.The study results provide insights into the design of sensitizers possessing a sufficient S_(1)population and a highly efficient tumor ablation capacity derived from molecular structural modulation,further enabling triple synergistic antitumor therapies,and expanding the clinical application of sensitizers.

Osteoblasts are essential in the maintenance of human bone homeostasis.1 The abnormal formation and impaired differentiation ability of osteoblasts are pivotal factors leading to bone-related diseases,suggesting that an indepth study of osteoblasts can provide novel treatment strategies for these diseases.2 Human primary osteoblasts are precious experimental models in bone-related research.3 However,the isolation and culture of human primary osteoblasts still have some difficulties and limitations.Here,we refined a method to isolate and culture human primary osteoblasts by taking cancellous bone through a bone tissue sampler and pre-digesting it with pancreatin,which makes the process easier,cheaper,and more efficient.Furthermore,we compared the effects of the subtle changes in isolation and culture methods on the phenotype of human primary osteoblasts and examined the differences in morphology,proliferation,and differentiation between micro-explants cultured osteoblasts(MECOBs)and explants cultured osteoblasts(EC-OBs).

A new insight into LPSO phase transformation and mechanical properties uniformity of large-scale Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy prepared by multi-pass friction stir processing

A large-scale fine-grained Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy plate with high strength and ductility was successfully prepared by multi-pass friction stir processing(MFSP) technology in this work. The structure of grains and long period stacking ordered(LPSO) phase were characterized,and the mechanical properties uniformity was investigated. Moreover, a quantitative relationship between the microstructure and tensile yield strength was established. The results showed that the grains in the processed zone(PZ) and interfacial zone(IZ) were refined from 50 μm to 3 μm and 4 μm, respectively, and numerous original LPSO phases were broken. In IZ, some block-shaped 18R LPSO phases were transformed into needle-like 14H LPSO phases due to stacking faults and the short-range diffusion of solute atoms. The severe shear deformation in the form of kinetic energy caused profuse stacking fault to be generated and move rapidly, greatly increasing the transformation rate of LPSO phase. After MFSP, the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation to failure of the large-scale plate were 367 MPa, 305 MPa and 18.0% respectively. Grain refinement and LPSO phase strengthening were the major strengthening mechanisms for the MFSP sample.In particularly, the strength of IZ was comparable to that of PZ because the strength contribution of the 14H LPSO phase offsets the lack of grain refinement strengthening in IZ. This result opposes the widely accepted notion that IZ is a weak region in MFSP-prepared large-scale fine-grained plate.

Exosomes,small tiny vesicle contains a large number of intracellular particles that employ to cause various diseases and prevent several pathological events as well in the human body.It is considered a“double-edged sword”,and depending on its biological source,the action of exosomes varies under physiological conditions.Also,the isolation and characterization of the exosomes should be performed accurately and the methodology also will vary depending on the exosome source.Moreover,the uptake of exosomes from the recipients’cells is a vital and initial step for all the physiological actions.There are different mechanisms present in the exosomes’cellular uptake to deliver their cargo to acceptor cells.Once the exosomal uptake takes place,it releases the intracellular particles that leads to activate the physiological response.Even though exosomes have lavish functions,there are some challenges associated with every step of their preparation to bring potential therapeutic efficacy.So,overcoming the pitfalls would give a desired quantity of exosomes with high purity.

在工业制造领域,移动机器人的广泛应用已成为提高作业安全和效率的关键。然而,现有的机器人系统只能完成预定义的导航任务,无法适应非结构化场景。为了突破这一瓶颈,提出一种基于大语言模型(LLM)的人机交互移动检测机器人导航方法,可代替操作人员进入工业环境中的危险区域进行检测,并且可以根据人类自然语言指令完成复杂的导航任务。首先,通过高分辨率网络(HRNet)模型进行场景语义分割,并在点云融合阶段将语义分割结果渲染到重建的三维场景网格模型中,得到三维语义地图;然后利用大语言模型让机器人可以理解人类的自然语言指令,并根据创建的三维语义地图生成Python代码控制机器人完成导航任务。最后,通过一系列非结构化场景下的实验验证了该系统的有效性。

基桩检测中桩身完整性的评估很有必要,声波透射法因优势突出而被广泛应用于基桩完整性检测领域。为系统地了解和认识声波透射法在基桩完整性检测领域中的研究进展和不足之处,首先,有序梳理了1997-2021年间的相关文献,整理归纳了声波透射法在基桩检测领域中的主要研究内容和发展历程,结果发现,声测管不平行问题和桩身完整性评估方法的选用是影响基桩完整性评估结果的关键因素;其次,按照先识别、再修正、后评估的逻辑顺序,阐述了声测管不平行问题对桩身完整性评估结果的影响,分析声测管不平行现象有别于桩身缺陷的声学参数曲线识别特征,总结概括了专家学者提出的声测管不平行修正方法和桩身完整性评估方法的种类、原理、适用性和优缺点,结果发现,目前修正方法只能减小却不能消除声测管不平行问题对评估结果的影响,且目前基桩完整性评估方法的精确性、可操作性及经济性间平衡性较差;最后,基于研究现状不足和时代技术发展,提出声测管不平行修正方法和桩身完整性评估方法应向智能化方向发展的建议,以期对基桩完整性检测的研究有所裨益。

基于实现全体人民共同富裕的中国式现代化背景,探讨民族地区城乡关系走向“融合共生”的实践路径。随着城乡人口多向流动、大众旅游业兴起以及新技术新媒介的赋能,驱动城乡之间要素、资源和资本融合发展。特别是连接都市与乡村的县城在推动城乡融合发展进程中发挥着关键作用。然而,民族地区发展的不平衡、不充分阻碍城乡融合有机发展,表现在民族地区县域产业发展面临诸多困境、县城的辐射带动作用不充分、旅游业没有形成特色产业链等。如何充分发挥县域在城乡融合中的重要载体作用,文章提出,立足资源禀赋,发展新型特色产业,推动城乡经济融合;加强优秀文化传承发展,推动城乡文化融合;加强乡村地区数字建设,利用数字技术赋能城乡融合发展。
