Contribution of the Open Access Modality to the Impact of Hybrid Journals Controlling by Field and Time Effects

Comparison between linseed expeller and canola expeller on concentrate intake,and circulating inflammatory mediators in Holstein calves

Safety of digoxin in nonagenarian patients with atrial fibrillation:lessons from the Spanish Multicenter Registry

BACKGROUND The association between digoxin and mortality is an unclear *** older patients with atrial fibrillation(AF),where use of digoxin is frequent,the evidence of its safety is *** aim is to assess the safety of digoxin in nonagenarian patients with *** We evaluated data from 795 nonagenarian patients with non-valvular AF from the Spanish Multicenter *** analyzed the relationship between digoxin and all-cause mortality with the Cox proportional-hazards *** Follow-up was 27.7±18.3 *** age was 92.5±3.8 years,and 71%of nonagenarian patients were *** was not associated with increased risk of mortality[adjusted hazard ratio(aHR)=1.16,95%CI:0.96−1.41,P=0.130].However,we found a significant increase in mortality in the subgroup with estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)per 1.73 m^(2)(aHR=2.01,95%CI:1.13−3.57,P=0.018),but not in the other subgroups of eGFR(30−59 mL/min per 1.73 m^(2) and≥60 mL/min per 1.73 m^(2)).When exploring the risk of mortality according to sex,male subgroup was associated with an in-crease in mortality(aHR=1.48,95%CI:1.02−2.14,P=0.041).This was not observed in females subgroup(aHR=1.03,95%CI:0.81−1.29,P=0.829).Based on the presence or absence of heart failure,we did not find significant differences(aHR=1.20,95%CI:0.87−1.65,P=0.268 ***=1.15,95%CI:0.90−1.47,P=0.273,respectively).CONCLUSIONS In our large registry of nonagenarian patients with AF,we did not find an association between digoxin and mortality in the total ***,in the subgroup analyses,we found an increase in mortality with the use of digoxin in men and in patients with an eGFRper 1.73 m^(2).

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary free fatty acid(FFA)content and degree of fat saturation on production performance,lipid and calcium digestibility,and intestinal function of laying *** a 15-week period,a total of 144 laying hens(19 weeks old)were randomly assigned to 8 dietary treatments,which were obtained by gradually replacing crude soybean oil with soybean acid oil(AO),or crude palm oil with palm fatty acid distillate(FAD).Thus,there were 4 soybean and 4 palm diets with 6%added fat varying in their FFA percentage(10%,20%,30%,and 45%),following a 2×4 factorial *** treatment included 6 replicates with 3 birds per *** daily feed intake and final body weight were significantly higher in palm diets(Ppercentage negatively affected the digestibility of EE and calcium(Ppercentage increased(linear,Pperimental diets had little effect on gastrointestinal weight and ***,the jejunum of soybean diets showed higher villus height and higher villus height-to-crypt depth ratio than palm diets(Ppercentage increased the crypt depth and decreased the villus height-to-crypt depth ratio(linear,Pzation as much as the degree of saturation did,supporting the use of AO and FAD as alternative fat ingredients.

Psychiatrists' approach to vascular risk assessment in Latin America

AIM: To explore the way in which Latin American psychiatrists approach the screening of vascular risk factors in patients receiving antipsychotic ***: This was a descriptive, cross sectional study that surveyed Latin-American physicians to evaluate differences between groups divided in three main sections. The first section included demographic and professional data. The second section asked about the available medical resources: weighing scales, sphygmomanometer and measuring tape. Finally, the third section aimed at looking into the attitudes towards car-diovascular prevention. The latter was also divided into two subsections. In the first one, the questions were about weight, blood pressure and waist perimeter. In the second subsection the questions asked about the proportion of patients:(1) that suffered from overweight and/or obesity;(2) whose lipids and glycemia were controlled by the physician;(3) that were questioned by, and received information from the physician about smoking; and(4) that received recommendations from the physician to engage in regular physical activity. The participants were physicians, users of the medical website Intramed. The visitors were recruited by a banner that invited them to voluntarily access an online self-reported structured questionnaire with multiple options. RESULTS: We surveyed 1185 general physicians and 792 psychiatrists. Description of interhemispheric disconnection syndrome in a patient with marchiafava-Bignami disease

Interhemispheric disconnection syndrome (IDS), described by Sperry, Gazzaniga and Bogen, is characterized by the presence of visual and tactile anomia, absence of interhemispheric transference of unilateral somatosensory stimulation of both hands, hemialexia and unilateral left-side apraxia. Subsequently, changes were also observed in the sensory interhemispheric transfer and in tests of crossed motor control. In marchiafava-Bignami disease (MBD) there have been descriptions of partial IDS. The aim is to describe the dissociations in IDS that are presented in a patient with MBD, using a specialized assessment methodology. Patient and Method: A 54-year-old patient, righthanded, with 11 years of schooling, presented with antecedent chronic alcoholism. Neuropsychological tests were administered for general assessment along with specific tests of interhemispheric transference. Results: Borderline changes were found in visual memory, visual-constructive abilities and attention and executive functioning. In tasks of interhemispheric transference the patient showed changes in: the imitation of hand poses;inter-manual pressure point localization (tactile stimulation);reading aloud of words by visual hemifield;and movement control. Conclusion: Our patient showed a wide lesion of the Corpus Callosum (CC) with relative preservation of the splenium, accompanied by partial disconnection syndrome in the context of a global cognitive deterioration from his chronic alcoholism.

Embryo and Endosperm Phytochemicals from Polyembryonic Maize Kernels and Their Relationship with Seed Germination

Because of the growing worldwide demand for maize grain,new alternatives have been sought for breeding of this cereal,e.g.,development of polyembryonic varieties,which agronomic performance could positively impact the grain yield per unit area,and nutritional *** objectives of this study were to(1)determine the phytochemicals present in the embryo and endosperm of grain from maize families with high,low,and null polyembryony frequency,which were planted at different locations,and(2)state the relationship between these compounds and seed *** extracted phytochemicals from corn were identified by *** results showed that the genotype with the highest presence of phytochemicals was the brachytic population with high polyembryony called“BAP”,which also required less water during the germination *** number of phytochemicals in both embryo and endosperm tissues was not related to the sowing location where they came from or the type of *** number of different phytochemicals depended on the grain tissue from where they were *** chemical compounds found in the different maize tissues were related to the development of the plant,either in roots or nibs because these are mainly associated with the lignin synthesis.
