Flowers are composed of organs whose identity is defined by the combinatorial activity of transcription factors(TFs).The interactions between MADS-box TFs and protein complex formation have been schematized in the floral quartet model of flower development.The gynoecium is the flower’s female reproductive part,crucial for fruit and seed production and,hence,for reproductive success.After the establishment of carpel identity,many tissues arise to form a mature gynoecium.TFs have been described as regulators of gynoecium development,and some interactions and complexes have been identified.However,broad knowledge about the interactions among these TFs and their participation during development remains scarce.In this study,we used a systems biology approach to understand the formation of a complex reproductive unit—as the gynoecium—by mapping binary interactions between well-characterized TFs.We analyzed almost 4500 combinations and detected more than 250 protein-protein interactions(PPIs),resulting in a process-specific interaction map.Topological analyses suggest hidden functions and novel roles for many TFs.In addition,we observed a close relationship between TFs involved in auxin and cytokinin-signaling pathways and other TFs.Furthermore,we analyzed the network by combining PPI data,expression,and genetic data,which helped us to dissect it into several dynamic spatio-temporal subnetworks related to gynoecium development processes.Finally,we generated an extended PPI network that predicts new players in gynoecium development.Taken together,all these results serve as a valuable resource for the plant community.

sTWEAK is a marker of early haematoma growth and leukoaraiosis in intracerebral haemorrhage

Objective To study the association between early growth of haematoma with biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction such as leukoaraiosis(lA)and the soluble tumour necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis(sTWEAK)in patients with intracerebral haemorrhage(ICH).Methods This is a retrospective observational study of patients with nontraumatic ICH.Clinical and biochemical parameters were analysed.sTWEAK levels were measured by ElISA.lA was analysed in the hemisphere without haemorrhage to avoid interference with the acute injury.The main endpoint was the haematoma growth evaluated by the difference in volume between the second and the initial neuroimage.Poor functional outcome,defined as a modified Rankin Scale>2 at 3 months,was considered as secondary endpoint.Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to stablish the best cut-off for sTWEAK levels associated with haematoma growth.Results We included 653 patients with ICH in our analysis(71.1±11.9 years,44%women).Haematoma growth was observed in 188 patients(28.8%).sTWEAK levels≥5600 pg/ml predicted ICH growth with a sensitivity of 84%and a specificity of 87%.sTWEAK levels≥5600 pg/ml and the presence of lA were associated with haematoma growth(OR:42.46;(CI 95%22.67 to 79.52)and OR:2.73(CI 95%1.39 to 5.34),respectively).Also,the presence of lA(OR:4.31(CI 95%2.89 to 6.42))and the interaction between ICH growth and sTWEAK(OR:2.23(CI 95%1.40 to 3.55))were associated with poor functional outcome at 3 months.Conclusion sTWEAKs,together with the presence and grade of lA,are biomarkers able to predict ICH growth and poor functional outcome in patients with ICH.

In-vitro assessment for the control of Fusarium species using a lactic acid bacterium isolated from yellow pitahaya(Selenicereus megalanthus(K. Schum. Ex Vaupel Moran))

The fungistatic activity of a lactic acid bacterium, which had been isolated from yellow pitahaya cultures, against fungi associated with basal rot(Fusarium oxysporum and Fusarium fujikuroi) was measured in the present study. Its activity was assessed in three fractions: fermented(S1), metabolic products(S2), and biomass(S3), using two fermentation substrates: Man Rogosa Sharpe agar(MRS) and potato dextrose agar(PDA). The bacterium was molecularly identified as lactobacillus plantarum. S3 reduced F. fujikuroi growth by 100% over 48 h of fermentation, which occurred during the stationary phase of bacterial growth. The three fractions' fungistatic activity against F. fujikuroi depended on the substrate employed. The fermentation kinetic parameters for l. plantarum indicated that its specific growth rate was 0.46 h^–1, with 93.63% substrate consumption, 0.045 kg kg^–1 cell yield, and 0.54 kg kg^–1 product yield. The kinetic parameters calculated will allow for bacteria production scaling. These in-vitro trials reveal l. plantarum's possible application as a biocontrol agent for diseases associated with Fusarium. However, further ex-vivo and in-vivo researches are required to demonstrate its behavior in crops.

Successful treatment with hysteroscopy for infertility due to isthmocele and hydrometra secondary to cesarean section: A case report

BACKgROUND An isthmocele is a scar defect in the uterine wall due to a cesarean section. Its prevalence is unknown,but it has been associated with secondary infertility.Here,we present a case where the patient suffered from an isthmocele that was associated with persistent hydrometra,which developed during in vitro fertilization.CASE SUMMARY The patient underwent hysteroscopic surgery,which successfully resolved the isthmocele as well as the hydrometra. Afterward,two high-quality,euploid embryos,determined by morphological assessment and pre-implantation genetic diagnostic testing,were transferred. This resulted in uterine pregnancy,as determined byserum β-human chorionic gonadotropin levels on day 14(180 m U/ml) and ultrasound-confirmed presence of a gestational sac with a positive embryocardia at week 6. The pregnancy reached 36 wk without any complications,and the product was born in good health. We report a successful isthmocele treatment in a patient with secondary infertility,in which the isthmocele was the cause of persistent hydrometra.CONClUSION Hydrometra caused by secondary cesarean is an infertility factor,which can be corrected by hysteroscopy plus ablation of the isthmocele.

lessons learned from requirements gathering for virtual reality simulators

Background This paper shows how current collaborative virtual environments(VEs)such as Mozilla Hubs and AltspaceVR can aid in the task of requirements gathering in VR for simulation and training.Methods We performed a qualitative study on our use of these technologies in the requirements gathering of two projects.Results Our results show that requirements gathering in virtual reality has an impact on the process of requirements identification.We report advantages and shortcomings that will be of interest to future practitioners.For example,we found that VR sessions for requirements gathering in current VEs could benefit from better pointers and better sound quality.Conclusion Current VEs are useful for the requirements gathering task in the development of VR simulators and VR training environments.

PtRu nanoparticles supported on noble carbons for ethanol electrooxidation

In this work,three cytosine derived nitrogen doped carbonaceous materials(noble carbons,NCs)with different atomic C/N ratios and porous networks have been synthesized and used as supports for Pt Ru electrocatalysts in the ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR)for clean hydrogen production.Both,the metal phase and the carbon support play critical roles in the electrocatalysts final performance.lower NPs size distribution was obtained over supports with low atomic C/N ratios(i.e.,4 and 6)and defined porosity(i.e.,1701 m^(2)g^(-1)for Pt Ru/CNZ and 1834 m^(2)g^(-1)for Pt Ru/ClZ,respectively).In contrast,a lower C/N ratio and poor porous network(i.e.,65 m^(2)g^(-1),Pt Ru/ClK)led to the largest particle size and fostered an increase of the alloying degree between Pt and Ru NPs(i.e.,3%for C/N~6 and 28%for C/N~3).Electrochemical active surface area was found to increase with decreasing NPs size and the alloy extent,due to a higher availability of Pt active sites.Accelerated degradation tests showed that Pt Ru/NCs outperform similar to Pt Ru NPs on commercial carbon pointing at the stabilizing effect of NCs.Pt Ru/CNZ exhibited the best electrochemical performance(i.e.,69.1 m A mgPt-1),outperforming Pt Ru/ClZ and Pt Ru/ClK by3-and 9-fold,respectively,due to a suitable compromise between particle sizes,degree of alloy,textural properties and elemental composition.Best anodes were scaled-up to a proton exchange membrane cell and Pt Ru/CNZ was proved to provide the best electrocatalytic activity(262 m A cm^(-2)and low energy requirements),matching the values obtained by the state of the art of EOR electrocatalysts.

Rock mass structural recognition from drill monitoring technology in underground mining using discontinuity index and machine learning techniques

A procedure to recognize individual discontinuities in rock mass from measurement while drilling(MWD)technology is developed,using the binary pattern of structural rock characteristics obtained from in-hole images for calibration.Data from two underground operations with different drilling technology and different rock mass characteristics are considered,which generalizes the application of the methodology to different sites and ensures the full operational integration of MWD data analysis.Two approaches are followed for site-specific structural model building:a discontinuity index(DI)built from variations in MWD parameters,and a machine learning(Ml)classifier as function of the drilling parameters and their variability.The prediction ability of the models is quantitatively assessed as the rate of recognition of discontinuities observed in borehole logs.Differences between the parameters involved in the models for each site,and differences in their weights,highlight the site-dependence of the resulting models.The Ml approach offers better performance than the classical DI,with recognition rates in the range 89%to 96%.However,the simpler DI still yields fairly accurate results,with recognition rates 70%to 90%.These results validate the adaptive MWD-based methodology as an engineering solution to predict rock structural condition in underground mining operations.

Relationship between HSP90a, NPC2 and l-PgDS proteins to boar semen freezability

Background： The purpose of this study was to determine the association of three proteins involved in sperm function on the freezability of porcine semen： the heat shock protein 90 alpha（HSP90a）, the Niemann-Pick disease type C2 protein（NPC2）, and lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase（l-PgDS）.Six adult boars（each boar was ejaculated three times, 18 in total） were classified by freezability based on the percentage of functionally competent sperm. The male semen with highest freezability（MHF） and the male semen with lowest freezability（MlF） were centrifuged immediately after collection to separate seminal plasma and spermatozoa to make four possible combinations of these two components and to incubate them for 3 h,adjusting the temperature to 17 °C, to freeze them afterwards. The quantification of proteins was performed in two stages： at zero and at 3 h after incubation of the four combinations.Results： The spermatozoa × incubation time（IT） interaction only had effect（P 〈 0.01） on HSP90 a levels; this protein increased in seminal plasma, after 3 h of incubation, in larger quantity（P 〈 0.05） in combinations with MlF spermatozoa. In relation with the NPC2 protein, two isoforms of 16 and 19 kDa were identified. The 19 kDa isoform was affected（P 〈 0.01） only by the seminal plasma × IT interaction, with superior values（P 〈 0.01） both at zero and three hours of incubation, in the combinations with MHF seminal plasma; and 16 kDa isoform was affected（P 〈 0.01） only by the IT with reduction after 3 h of incubation. The levels of l-PgDS was affected（P 〈 0.01）only by the spermatozoa × IT interaction, which reduced（P 〈 0.01） in combinations with MlF spermatozoa after 3 h of incubation.Conclusions： It is possible to consider that the three proteins evaluated were associated with freezability of boar semen due, especially, to the fact that mixtures with MlF spermatozoa showed greater increase levels of the HSP90 a protein and reduction of l-PgDS in plasma. Background:To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiological data of injuries in male and female youth football players.Methods:Searches were performed in MEDlINE/PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane library,and SPORTDiscus databases.Studies were considered if they reported injury incidence rate in male and female youth(≤19 years old)football players.Two reviewers(FJRP and AlV)extracted data and assessed trial quality using the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology(STROBE)statement and the Newcastle Ottawa Scale.The grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation approach determined the quality of evidence.Studies were combined using a Poisson random effects regression model.Results:Forty-three studies were included.The overall incidence rate was 5.70 injuries/1000 h in males and 6.77 injuries/1000 h in females.Match injury incidence(14.43 injuries/1000 h in males and 14.97 injuries/1000 h in females)was significantly higher than training injury incidence(2.77 injuries/1000 h in males and 2.62 injuries/1000 h in females).The lower extremity had the highest incidence rate in both sexes.The most common type of injury was muscle/tendon for males and joint/ligament for females.Minimal injuries were the most common in both sexes.The incidence rate of injuries increased with advances in chronological age in males.Elite male players presented higher match injury incidence than sub-elite players.In females,there was a paucity of data for comparison across age groups and levels of play.Conclusion:The high injury incidence rates and sex differences identified for the most common location and type of injury reinforce the need for implementing different targeted injury-risk mitigation strategies in male and female youth football players.

Three species of dinophysoid planktonic dinoflagellates are described from the eastern Mediterranean Sea.Amphisolenia sp.***.brevicauda was collected at 70-m depth in the Ionian Sea.This small species showed a more asymmetric midbody and a proportionally longer neck when compared to the closer relative A.brevicauda.Three individuals of Dinofurcula tricornuta sp.***.collected at 154-m depth in the Marmara Sea are characterized by three posterior-oriented processes when compared to its congeneric species.This is the first record of the genus Dinofurcula beyond the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.Dinophysis profunda sp.***.collected at 500-m depth in the Ionian Sea is characterized by ovate hypotheca and a serrate crest-like left sulcal list when compared to its close relative D.alata.These findings evidence an undescribed biodiversity in the under-sampled subphotic depths.
