We present a revised molecular phylogeny of higher Basidiomycota focusing on lepidostromataceae based on the large subunit(28S)of the nuclear ribosomal rDNA(nulSU),with additionl data from the translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1(TEF1)and the RNA polymerase II second largest subunit(RPB2)*** results suggest that lepidostromataceae is best recognized in a separate order,lepidostromatales ordo novum,within subclass ***,the internal topology of lepidostromataceae,correlating with thallus features,indicates that three genera,instead of a single genus,should be *** therefore introduce the genera Ertzia genus novum and Sulzbacheromyces genus novum for lepidostroma akagerae and ***,*** addition,the new species *** *** is described for Mexican material previously identified as *** photobionts of Sulzbacheromyces and lepidostroma were identified using molecular data of the large subunit of the ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase(rbcl)gene,revealing a possibly undescribed genus in Trebouxiophyceae and the first report of lichenization for the genus Bracteacoccus in Chlorophyceae.

The brown-headed cowbird(hereafter cowbird)is an avian brood parasite that produces an egg dissimilar to those produced by the majority of its diverse host *** cowbird’s generic egg may result from a Jack-of-all-trades strategy;however,the evolutionary mechanisms that select for their generic eggs are *** we propose that the cowbird’s eggshell phenotypes have evolved via diffuse coevolution,which results from community-level selective pressures,rather than via pairwise coevolution that occurs between a particular host species and its brood *** diffuse coevolution the cowbird’s host community,with varying eggshell phenotypes and recognition abilities,would select for a cowbird eggshell phenotype intermediate to those of its host *** selection is exerted by hosts that reject cowbird eggs,rather than those that accept them;therefore,we expect cowbird eggshell colors can be approximated by both the phenotypes and rejection abilities of their host *** we use eggshell reflectance data from 43 host species to demonstrate that the cowbird eggshell phenotypes are reasonably predicted(within 2 just noticeable differences)by the eggshell phenotypes and rejection rates of their *** findings suggest that cowbird eggshell phenotypes,and potentially those of other some generalist parasites,may evolve via diffuse ***,this research provides insight into the underlying evolutionary processes that explain observed phenotypic variation and provides a framework for studying selection on both specialist and generalist parasites’traits.

Gastrointestinal(GI)cancers are one of the most common malignancies worldwide,with high rates of morbidity and ***-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)are major components of the tumor microenvironment(TME).MDSCs facilitate the transformation of premalignant cells and play roles in tumor growth and ***,in patients with GI malignancies,MDSCs can lead to the suppression of T cells and natural killer ***,a better understanding of the role and mechanism of action of MDSCs in the TME will aid in the development of novel immune-targeted therapies.

4H-SiC based metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) photodetectors with diverse spacing were designed, fabricated, and characterized, in which nickel Schottky contacts were needed. Current-voltage and spectral responsivity measurements were carried out at room temperature. The fabricated 4 μm-spacing device showed a very low dark current (0.25 pa at 5 V bias voltage), a typical responsivity of 0.103 A/W at 20 V, and a peak re-sponse wavelength at 290 nm. The fabricated devices held a high DUV to visible re-jection ratio of >103.

The effect of milling additives on powder properties and sintered body microstructure of NiO

The evolution of powder particle size,crystal structure,and surface chemistry was evaluated for micron scale NiO powders subjected to impact milling with commonly employed milling additives:methanol,Vertrel XF,and amorphous *** effect of the different comminution protocols on sintered body microstructure was evaluated for high temperature sintering in inert atmosphere(N_(2)).X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that NiO powder surface chemistry is surprisingly sensitive to milling additive *** particular,the proportion of powder surface defect sites varied with additive,and methanol left an alcohol or alkoxy residue even after *** sintering to intermediate temperatures(1100℃),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)showed that slurry milled NiO powders exhibit hindered sintering *** effect was amplified for NiO milled with methanol,in which sub-500 nm grain sizes dominated even after sintering to 1100℃.Upon heating to high temperatures(1500℃),simultaneous differential scanning calorimetry/thermogravimetric analysis(DSC/TGA)showed that the powders containing carbon residues undergo carbothermal reduction,resulting in a melting transition between 1425 and 1454℃.Taken together,the results demonstrated that when processing metal oxide powders for advanced ceramics,the choice of milling additive is crucial as it exerts significant control over sintered body microstructure.
