We here report the de novo transcriptome assembly and functional annotation of Eusirus *** clade g3,providing the first database of expressed sequences from this giant Antarctic ***-sequencing,carried out on the whole body of a single juvenile individual likely undergoing molting,revealed the dominant expression of *** mRNAs encoding these oxygen-binding proteins cumulatively accounted for about 40%of the total transcriptional effort,highlighting the key biological importance of high hemocyanin production in this Antarctic amphipod *** speculate that this observation may mirror a strategy previously described in Antarctic cephalopods,which compensates for the decreased ability to release oxygen to peripheral tissues at sub-zero temperatures by massively increasing total blood hemocyanin content compared with temperate *** preliminary results will undoubtedly require confirmation through proteomic and biochemical analyses aimed at characterizing the oxygen-binding properties of *** clade g3 hemocyanins and at investigating whether other Antarctic arthropod species exploit similar adaptations to cope with the challenges posed by the extreme conditions of the polar environment.

BACKGROUND Patients with pancreatic cystic neoplasms(PCN), without surgical indication at the time of diagnosis according to current guidelines, require lifetime imagebased surveillance follow-up. In these patients, the current European evidencedbased guidelines advise magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) scanning every 6 mo in the first year, then annually for the next five years, without reference to any role for trans-abdominal ultrasound(US). In this study, we report on our clinical experience of a follow-up strategy of image-based surveillance with US, and restricted use of MRI every two years and for urgent evaluation whenever suspicious changes are detected by *** To report the results and cost-efficacy of a US-based surveillance follow-up for known PCNs, with restricted use of *** We retrospectively evaluated the records of all the patients treated in our institution with non-surgical PCN who received follow-up abdominal US and restricted MRI from the time of diagnosis, between January 2012 and January 2017. After US diagnosis and MRI confirmation, all patients underwent US surveillance every 6 mo for the first year, and then annually. A MRI scan was routinely performed every 2 years, or at any stage for all suspicious US *** this communication, we reported the clinical results of this alternative followup, and the results of a comparative cost-analysis between our surveillance protocol(abdominal US and restricted MRI) and the same patient cohort that has been followed-up in strict accordance with the European guidelines recommended for an exclusive MRI-based surveillance *** In the 5-year period, 200 patients entered the prescribed US-restricted MRI surveillance follow-up. Mean follow-up period was 25.1 ± 18.2 mo. Surgery was required in two patients(1%) because of the appearance of suspicious features at imaging(with complete concordance between the US scan and the on-demand MRI). Cholesterol gallstone disease is a common clinical condition influenced by genetic factors,increasing age,female gender,and metabolic *** laparoscopic cholecystectomy is currently considered the gold standard in treating patients with symptomatic gallstones,new perspectives regarding medical therapy of cholelithiasis are currently under discussion,also taking into account the pathogenesis of gallstones,the natural history of the disease and the analysis of the overall costs of therapy.A careful selection of patients may lead to successful nonsurgical therapy in symptomatic subjects with a functioning gallbladder harboring small radiolucent *** classical oral litholysis by ursodeoxycholic acid has been recently paralleled by new experimental observations,suggesting that cholesterol-lowering agents which inhibit cholesterol synthesis (statins) or intestinal cholesterol absorption (ezetimibe),or drugs acting on specific nuclear receptors involved in cholesterol and bile acid homeostasis,might be proposed as additional approaches for treating cholesterol *** this review we discuss old,recent and future perspectives on medical treatment of cholesterol cholelithiasis.
