Diverse roles of macrophages in intraocular neovasculardiseases:a review

Macrophages are involved in angiogenesis, and might also contribute to the pathogenesis of intraocular neovascular diseases. Recent studies indicated that macrophages exert different functions in the process of intraocular neovascularization, and the polarization of M1 and M2 phenotypes plays extremely essential roles in the diverse functions of macrophages. Moreover, a large number of cytokines released by macrophages not only participate in macrophage polarization, but also associate with retinal and choroidal neovascular diseases. Therefore, macrophage might be considered as a novel therapeutic target to the treatment of pathological neovascularization in the eye. This review mainly summarizes diverse roles of macrophages and discusses the possible mechanisms in retinal and choroidal neovascularization.

Objective To investigate the management and outcome of cerebrospinal fluid leakage(CSFL)after cervical *** Medical records of 642 patients who underwent cervical surgery between December 1999 and December 2005 at our hospital were retrospectively *** patients complicated by CSFL after surgery were enrolled,of which 4 cases were complicated after ossified posterior longitudinal ligament or posterior vertebral osteophyte resection directly injuring the dura,and 1 case after posterior cervical double-door laminoplasty without observed dural injury during *** the 5 CSFL cases,4 cases occurred at 1-3 days after operation and 1 case at 9 days after *** 5 postoperative CSFL cases were treated through wound drainage removal,wound sutures,prophylactic antibiotics,and continuous subarachnoid drainage in the elevated head *** All 5 CSFL cases experienced leakage cessation within 1-3 days and wound healing within 4-8 days,and subarachnoid drainage lasted 11-16 days with an average volume of 320 mL(range,150-410 mL).Four cases experienced headache,nausea and vomiting,1 case suffered from somnolence and hyponatremia,and symptoms subsided after symptomatic treatment and intravenous fluid *** patients were followed up for an average of 32 months(range,22-50 months).No occurrence of cerebrospinal fluid cyst or wound infection was *** produced no significant negative effects upon neuromuscular function *** Continuous subarachnoid cavity drainage in combination with elevated head position is a simple and safe non-surgical method in treatment of CSFL following cervical surgery.

Alternative splicing(AS)of pre-mRNAs increases transcriptome and proteome diversity,regulates gene expression through multiple mechanisms,and plays important roles in plant development and stress ***,the prevalence of genome-wide plant AS changes during infection and the mechanisms by which pathogens modulate AS remain poorly ***,we examined the global AS changes in tomato leaves infected with Phytophthora infestans,the infamous Irish famine *** show that more than 2000 genes exhibiting significant changes in AS are not differentially expressed,indicating that AS is a distinct layer of transcriptome reprogramming during plant-pathogen ***,our results show that *** subverts host immunity by repressing the AS of positive regulators of plant immunity and promoting the AS of susceptibility *** study the underlying mechanism,we established a luminescence-based AS reporter system in Nicotiana benthamiana to screen pathogen effectors modulating plant *** identified nine splicing regulatory effectors(SREs)from 87 *** *** studies revealed that SRE3 physically binds U1-70K to manipulate the plant AS machinery and subsequently modulates AS-mediated plant *** study not only unveils genome-wide plant AS reprogramming during infection but also establishes a novel AS screening tool to identify SREs from a wide range of plant pathogens,providing opportunities to understand the splicing regulatory mechanisms through which pathogens subvert plant immunity.

This paper presents a method for dynamically predicting gas emission quantity based on the wavelet neural network （WNN） toolbox. Such a method is able to predict the gas emission quantity in adjacent subsequent time intervals through training the WNN with even time-interval samples. The method builds successive new model with the width of sliding window remaining invariable so as to obtain a dynamic prediction method for gas emission quantity. Furthermore, the method performs prediction by a self-developed WNN toolbox. Experiments indicate that such a model can overcome the deficiencies of the traditional static prediction model and can fully make use of the feature extraction capability of wavelet base function to reflect the geological feature of gas emission quantity dynamically. The method is characterized by simplicity, flexibility, small data scale, fast convergence rate and high prediction precision. In addition, the method is also characterized by certainty and repeatability of the predicted results. The effectiveness of this method is confirmed by simulation results. Therefore, this method will exert practical significance on promoting the application of WNN.

Identification of altered microRNAs in retinas of mice with oxygen-induced retinopathy

AIM: To identify disease-related miRNAs in retinas of mice with oxygen-induced retinopathy(OIR), and to explore their potential roles in retinal pathological neovascularization. METHODS: The retinal miRNA expression profile in mice with OIR and room air controls at postnatal day 17(P17) were determined through miRNA microarray analysis. Several miRNAs were significantly up-and down-regulated in retinas of mice with OIR compared to controls by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR). Two databases including Targetscan7.1 and MirdbV5 were used to predict target genes that associated with those significantly altered mi RNAs in retinas of mice with OIR. Gene Ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway analyses were also conducted to identify possible biological functions of the target genes. RESULTS: In comparison with room air controls, 3 and 8 miRNAs were significantly up-and down-regulated, respectively, in retinas of mice with OIR. The qRT-PCR data confirmed that mmu-miR-350-3 p and mmu-miR-202-3 p were significantly up-regulated, while mmu-miR-711 and mmu-miR-30 c-1-3 p were significantly down-regulated in mice with OIR compared to controls. GO analysis demonstrated that the identified target genes were related to functions such as cellular macromolecule metabolic process. KEGG pathway analysis showed a group of pathways, such as Wnt signaling pathway, transcriptionalmisregulation in cancer, Mucin type O-glycan biosynthesis, and mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK) signaling pathway might be involved in pathological process of retinal neovascularization. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that the differentially expressed miRNAs in retinas of mice with OIR might provide potential therapeutic targets for treating retinal neovascularization.

Oxygen ligation is envisioned to provide a stable and distinctive coordination environment to the strongly oxophilic rare-earth metals. However, the well-defined dialkyl complexes bearing oxyanion ancillary ligand had been rarely addressed for the instability of the complexes and the shortage of easily available ligands. Herein, we report the synthesis of phosphate ligated dialkyl yttrium complexes(PYR2) featuring a high stability and a tunable ligand. Treated with the borate reagent, the phosphate yttrium complex displays high activity and selectivity in the catalytic cis-1,4-polymerization of isoprene(up to 96.5%). Furthermore, using AlMe_(3) as an additive, the stereoselectivity switches to trans-1,4-polymerization(up to 92.0%).

Objective:To get scientific basis for further health education through the research of the road construction workers'KBP before and after the interventions of highway AIDS prevention ***:Multi-stage random sampling method was employeed to select workers of 8 sites from 14 sites along highway to investigate their AIDS knowledge,belief and performance(KBP)before and after highway AIDS prevention ***:Over 90%of the investigated workers had ever heard about AIDS,and the non-skilled workers of lower educational level improved more after *** correct answer rate of the three transmitting ways of AIDS of drivers which is the focused group of highway before and after intervention had the obvious statistical significance(P<0.05),and the other group's correct answer rates also had improved after *** people's understanding of preventing AIDS through correct use of condoms when having sex had a statistically significanl differenee(P<0.05)after *** rates of using condoms of foremen and skilled workers when having sex with commercial sex worker/casual partner increased after ***:The health education of HIV among the road construction workers is effective and further health education of HIV prevention should be cairied out among the road construction workers to improve their knowledge and awareness of avoiding the high-risk behaviors.

Dexing copper deposit is the biggest porphyry copper deposit in China. By researching isotopes of C,Si and Cu from the samples of Tongchang and Fujiawu ore-field, the authors found that δ13CPDB values of siderite were close to the δ13CPDB value of original magma; δ30Si values of the samples at the ore-forming stage were close to the δ30Si value range of magma, δ30Si values of partial samples were far away from it; Cu isotopic compositions of massive chalcopyrite formed at the early ore-forming stage are higher than that of veinal chalcopyrite formed at the later ore-forming stage. The results show that ore-forming materials were mainly derived from the porphyry body, and part of them were from wall rock materials.
